Some Fun Fitness Opportunities! This time of year in San Diego and Orange County, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and take your fitness to a new level. Here are some fun ways to challenge yourself and you might even see another Lincoln family or Lincoln employee at one of these opportunities: • First time triathletes, try the Spring Sprint on Sunday, May 6th at South Shores Park in Mission Bay. For race information visit www.kozevents.com and search Spring Sprint. • The Navy’s 32nd Original Bay Bridge Run/Walk will be hosted on Sunday, May 20th. Join over 10,000 people as they run over the bridge and support the Navy’s MWR programs and events! • If you are looking to join a fun exercise group, check out Lincoln’s Stroller Strides group which meets each week and is free for all CPEN Lincoln residents. Currently this program is located in certain housing areas and will expand as resident participation grows. For further information, please contact instructor Melissa Kim, [email protected] Just remember: eating a healthy diet, thinking positively, avoiding harmful substances, lowering stress, involving your kids into fitness routines, and integrating some activity into your day are small changes but will lead to a healthy lifestyle and happiness. You can do it, now join Lincoln and let’s do this together! Lincoln’s Main Spring Event - Please Come Out! Our Community Expo / Resident Business and Craft Fair is slated for Saturday, April 14th, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM, at our soccer field located on San Jacinto Road across from the South Mesa Chapel and prior to the Pacific View Events Center. Did You Know?If you are currently living in Lincoln Military Housing and receive deployment orders, you are not required to vacate your home. Your family may be away from the home for up to 5 months. NOTE: a caregiver must be provided to Lincoln Military Housing to watch over your home during your absence.

April is the Month of the Military ChildApril is the month to celebrate the children whose parents serve in our Armed Forces. It is a time to remind ourselves that it is not just the service members who serve, it is also their families.

Military children face unique challenges – on average, they attend six to nine different school systems by the time they graduate from high school. Through each PCS, they have to leave their home and friends, make new friends, and adjust to a new school and home. We cannot make all the challenges of being a military child go away, but we can make sure they know we’re standing beside them.

This month, please take time to thank military children for their sacrifices and let them know they are appreciated and supported.

Green ArticleCelebrate Planet Earth and Save the Date for Earth Day on April 22nd!Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 with 20 million Americans participating. Awareness of human impact on the environment has grown each year with more than 1 billion people in more than 180 countries around the world celebrating!

San Diego is a great place to take advantage of all the things this planet has to offer. Whether you spend a day hiking in the mountains, soaking up the sun at the beach, enjoying the museums and vast greenery at Balboa Park or heading to the desert for day of exploring, you can make a difference in the environment when you pick up trash along the way. Help celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd by doing your part to clean up after yourself or others when you are out enjoying your day, whatever you have planned.

Here are a few things you can do this month to celebrate Earth Day. Have fun, meet new people and make a difference!

• Head to www.earthday.org/takeaction/ and sign the Earth Day Pledge to share your “Act of Green” and how you plan to make a difference for the environment.

• Geocaching is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate hidden containers using a smartphone or GPS. Cache In Trash Out is a special event by the Geocaching community to clean up parks, build trails or remove invasive plant species. Go to www.geocaching.com/cito/ to get more information.

• Celebrate at San Diego EarthWorks EarthFair in Balboa Park on Sunday, April 22nd, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM and it’s free! For more information: http://www.earthdayweb.org/EarthFair.html
