It’s been a busy year in polics with CLP chaos negavely impacng across the public service and business. If it wasn’t for the major oil and gas project se- cured by Labor I doubt we’d have any economic or jobs growth. I’m hoping 2016 heralds the beginning of a beer me in the Territory. At least it’s finally elecon year! I’ll connue to work with local schools and am thrilled to be a part of the Sanderson Alliance, an iniave across all of our local public schools – Karama, Manunda and Malak Primary Schools, Sanderson Middle School and Casuarina Senior College. The Sanderson Alliance is seeking to have a collecve impact to improve the lives of children. It’s early days but very excing. For more informaon on the Sanderson Alliance contact my office. It’s been a year of challenges and significant change for me locally. I’ve well and truly embraced my new role as an Independent Member for Karama. I used the November sings of Parliament to highlight concerns with the lack of a comprehensive plan to bale the scourge of Ice and again pointed the Government to the Victorian Ice Acon Plan. I took on the CLP about their failures in Educaon and have vowed to stand up against moves by them in the December sings to limit entlement to educaon to 26 semesters (equivalent of 13 years). This covers transion to Year 12 but fails to reflect the reality of many children who need to repeat a year, do Year 12 over two years or who due to special needs require addional years of schooling. In my office we have farewelled Kerry Wetherall who is training as an Aboriginal Community Police Officer and have had Dean Vlassco take up the important Karama office role. Dean has now accepted the opportunity to study in Indonesia so he’ll be saying farewell to us at the end of the year and will be replaced by Malak resident Elaine Walton. I wish Dean all the very best for his studies. Finally, thank you to all the wonderful residents who stand strong in supporng me to remain a strong, experienced and compassionate voice for our community. Every day I am thankful for having a crucial role in Caring for Community. Season’s Greengs. A six week trial of markets in the Malak Shops rear car-park was a huge success. Co-ordinated by a volunteer market committee auspiced by Darwin Community Arts, it sought to showcase local products and organic produce. I was proud to support this great community event by selling water.Following the outstanding success of the trial the markets will be held for the entire dry season in 2016. I would encourage everybody to support our local markets. If you would like any more information about Malak Marketplace please email: [email protected]

Karama and Malak has been thriving with activities during the Dry Season. It has been a real pleasure to visit local schools and the Tata Family Centre to read story books to children.Below I’m pictured with the energetic Floss Roberts from the Royal Life Saving NT. Congratulations to Floss for lobbying to achieve school-based access to swimming programs.Enjoy the end-of-year festivities, stay safe over the break and feel free to pop in and say hello.

Great to catch up with Floss Roberts from Royal Life Saving NT to discuss school-based access to swimming programs.

It was a privilege to attend the Darwin North RSL Remembrance Day service. It was great to see students from O’Loughlin Catholic College at the service paying their respects to our servicemen. Lest we forget.
