Dear Avon Parents and Guardians,

The first trimester has come to an end and teachers are busy working on report cards. Report Cards will be

coming home with students on December 15. We hope that you will find the district report informative as it

shows how your child is progressing in a particular subject area.

Please see that attached letter concerning the 5 Essentials Survey. This survey is an opportunity to share

your thoughts on the effectiveness of our school from a parent’s perspective. The survey will be open until

January 16th.

● Cold and Flu season is upon us. In order to keep students and staff healthy please keep a

sick child at home. Children can return to school after they are 24 hours symptom free.

● As we enter Fall and Winter and the weather cools off, please make sure that students are

sent to school with the appropriate jackets, hats, and gloves. We do not have any extra

clothes. Please see the CCSD 46 Parent Handbook p.37 for details on Recess during the

Winter.

Dear   Parent/Guardian, 

 

Parents,   teachers   and   selected   students   in   Community   Consolidated   School   District   46   will   have   an   opportunity   to   participate   in 

the   fourth   annual   statewide   Illinois   5Essentials   Survey.   This   survey,   available   in   English   or   Spanish,   is   designed   to   generate   a 

detailed   picture   of   the   inner   workings   of   your   child’s   school.   As   a   parent,   this   opportunity   will   allow   you   to   share   your   thoughts 

on   the   important   elements   of   school   effectiveness   in   a   survey   about   your   child’s   school.      On   behalf   of   the   Illinois   State   Board   of 

Education,   the   Illinois   5Essentials   Survey   will   be   administered   online   by   UChicago   Impact   at   the   University   of   Chicago.   The 

survey   gathers   data   related   to   five   indicators   that   can   predict   important   student   outcomes,   including   improved   attendance   and 

larger   test   score   gains.   These   five   indicators   that   affect   and   predict   school   success   are: 

 

● Effective   Leaders 

● Collaborative   Teachers 

● Involved   Families 

● Supportive   Environments 

● Ambitious   Instruction 

 

Prior   research   in   more   than   400   schools   has   shown   that   schools   that   were   strong   on   at   least   three   of   these   “5Essential”   indicators 

were   10   times   more   likely   to   improve   student   learning   gains   in   math   and   reading   than   those   that   were   weak   on   three   or   more 

Essentials.  

 

If   at   least   20   percent   of   parents   complete   this   survey   for   each   school,   a   parent   supplement   will   be   generated.   The   parent   data   will 

not   be   reported   on   the   State   Report   Card,   but   will   be   used   by   the   district   as   a   measure   of   continuous   improvement.      Teachers   and 

students   in   grades   6­8   will   be   responding   to   this   survey.      The   information   from   these   surveys   will   be   included   in   the   State   School 

Report   Card.   Your   participation   in   the   parent   portion   of   the   survey   will   help   us   understand   the   conditions   at   your   child’s   school 

and   guide   improvement.   Your   identity   and   survey   responses   will   be   kept   completely   confidential   and   will   never   be   connected   to 

you   or   your   child.      For   parents,   the   Illinois   5Essentials   Survey   will   be   available   between   December   5,   2016   to   January   16,   2017.

For   students,   the   Illinois   5Essentials   Survey   will   be   available   between   December   3,   2016   and   December   16,   2016   during   school.

Estimados Padres o Tutores: El Distrito 46 de Grayslake se ha unido con el Consejo Educativo del Estado de Illinois (ISBE por sus siglas en inglés) al invitar a todos los maestros, padres y estudiantes en Illinois la oportunidad de participar en el cuarto año del Estudio 5Essentials. Este Estudio esta diseñado para generar información detallada del funcionamiento interno de la escuela de su hijo. Como un padre, esta oportunidad permitirá que usted comparta sus pensamientos sobre los elementos importantes de la eficacia de la escuela en una encuesta sobre la escuela de su hijo. De parte de la Junta Estatal de Educación de Illinois, el Estudio 5Essentials se administrará en línea por UChicago Impact de la Universidad de Chicago. La encuesta recoge datos relacionados a los cinco indicadores que pueden predecir resultados importantes para estudiantes, incluyendo mejor asistencia y calificaciones en las pruebas.
