September National Emergency Preparedness Month
Are You Prepared?
http://tracker.gasbuddy.com/
September is National Preparedness Month and this article will help you out on how to
prepare in case of an emergency.
We’re going to keep this article short, sweet, and to the point. Most of us watch or hear
the news about the horrible things that go on in this world and think “That would never
happen to me”, well unless you have a crystal ball that predicts natural disasters, violent
crime or life changing events, read through this and pay attention because, believe it or
not, this may happen to you.
First, you need to make an emergency kit. These kits should have basic medications,
first aid kits, documents that you may need, and personal hygiene products. Other mis-
cellaneous items such as water, canned food, clothes, flashlights, etc. can be added.
Every kit will be different according to the individual. Go crazy, add whatever you think
you need.
Moving on! Second thing you need to do is make an emergency plan. Tell me, would you
know what to do if a natural disaster is imminent? There’s a sudden flash flood and your
apartment is flooding, what are you going to do? Exactly. You don’t know, don’t lie. Pre-
paredness is key, make that plan beforehand, I promise you it will only take about 5
minutes. Your plan should include phone numbers, personal information for emergency
responders and other important information.
Now listen here, you’re almost done. The last thing you should do is STAY INFORMED.
Easiest way to do this is to register for UTSA Alerts and they’ll send notifications
through e-mail, text or voice. If you’re a student in this marvelous institution, congratula-
tions, you’re registered already. Just saved you 2 minutes.
Takeaways: REMEMBER THIS.
