RESULTS FOR THE FIRST HALF OF 2019
€29 MILLION
FRANCE'S NO. 4 AUCTION HOUSE LEADING INDEPENDENT AUCTION HOUSE IN FRANCE
RESULTS IDENTICAL TO THE FIRST HALF OF 2018
2 lots of over a million – 21 bids above €300,000 - 41 bids above €100,000 Over 70% of buyers from abroad – 28 pre-emptions
Amounts mentioned include buyers' premiums, as well as private sales and after-sales transactions.
At the mid-point of the year, the Aguttes auction house has consolidated results as high as in the first half of 2018, the year when its results topped the €50 million mark: a threshold never hitherto exceeded by an independent company. The auction house is thus in rosy financial health and is continuing its international development, diversifying its offering in a global context of market stagnation. In the first half of 2019, it proved its ability to constantly reinvent itself with cycles of exhibitions and talks, the opening of new specialist departments, the set-up of a new office in Brussels and the creation of an events offer at its listed site in Lyon: the former Les Brotteaux railway station.
FIRST HALF-KEY FIGURES AND RESULTS:
* A total of €7 million for Impressionist & Modern Paintings/Contemporary Art. * A total of €5.8 million for Vintage Automobiles & Automobilia. * A total of €4.1 million for Asian Painters and Arts, with new world and European records. * The creation of two new specialist departments: Russian Art and Old Master Paintings and Drawings. * The first record bid for this department: a painting by Peter II Brueghel the Younger, knocked down for €1.152 million. * Opening of a sales office in the heart of the Belgian art market in the Le Sablon District, Brussels. * Start of a new activity: private sales, with the sum of €2.5 million. * New session of sales for the Aristophil Collections coordinated by Aguttes: over €11 millions' worth of items knocked down at Drouot
with the three partner auction houses (OVA: Aristophil sales operators). * + 50% growth in Aguttes ONLINE sales.
New office at Le Sablon, Brussels Exhibition at the Les Brotteaux railway station, Lyon

ABOUT the AGUTTES auction house Aguttes is the no. 4 auction house in France, and the leading independent company (with no external shareholders). Founded in 1974 by Claude Aguttes and now managed with two of his daughters (Philippine Dupré la Tour and Charlotte Reynier-Aguttes), the house is staffed by a team of 50. In 2018, it exceeded the symbolic threshold of €50 M incl. tax in hammer prices, an annual total never before achieved by an independent auction house in France. With an international sale room in west Paris and sales offices in Lyon and Brussels, Aguttes stages over 80 auctions each year. Its 15 specialist departments enable it to sell major collections, and they regularly post records at auction, as over 75% of their buyers are international. Aguttes is also a key player at Drouot, where it achieved the highest bid of the year in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Acclaimed for its excellent service and responsiveness, Aguttes is positioned as a serious alternative to the market leaders in its flagship departments, including Asian Painters, Impressionist and Modern Art, Jewellery & Fine Pearls, Design, Asian Arts, Vintage Automobiles, Wines & Spirits, Furniture & Objets d’art, Rare Books & Manuscripts, Contemporary Art and Old Master Paintings & Drawings. Because of its professionalism, the auction house was chosen by the commercial court to orchestrate the sale of the vast and remarkable collection of antique manuscripts assembled by Aristophil.
