CAR SAFETY FOR CHILDREN & PETSAs the summer weather continues to be hot and humid, HRMPartners in Policing reminds citizens about the dangers of leav-ing children and pets alone in unattended vehicles. Leavingwindows slightly open does not slow the heating process or de-crease the maximum temperature attained. To prevent deadlyconsequences for your children and/or pets never leave theminside an unoccupied vehicle even for a few minutes. If you canttake them with you when you park your vehicle leave them at

home or with friends or arrange for daycare services. If you seeany child or a pet in distress, please call -- immediately.

ROUTE LOCAL TRANSIT PROPOSALHRM provides a funding program to help support communi-ty-based transit services by providing a subsidy to the regularoperation and maintenance of an organizations vehicles. Thisprogram will pay a flat rate of ./km for every vehicle kilo-meter logged while providing service within HRM (dependenton budget availability). This program also provides an additionallump sum of , or , of support per year to an orga-nization, depending on the level of service provided to the com-munity. It is intended that this program will help supplement thecost of fuel and regular maintenance of fleet vehicles, or thefuel and maintenance of personal vehicles being used by volun-teer drivers. It is not intended to subsidize the full cost of pro-viding the service. Funding will be renewed annually, assumingthat quarterly reporting criteria are fulfilled and subject to HRMbudget availability. Our own local service MusGo Rider - is abeneficiary of this municipal funding program. Coupled with theprovincial rural transportation programs, the goal is to stabilizeand possibly encourage the expansion of our local communi-ty-based transit elsewhere within the district. Presently MusgoRider is exploring the possibly of having a km fixed transitroute along Route from the Porters Lake Bus Terminalto the Portland Hills Terminal with a service loop link to ColeHarbour Place. If approved, this will hopefully bring some more

transit options to the communities of West Chezzetcook, GrandDesert, Seaforth, Three Fathom Harbour, East Lawrencetown,Lawrencetown and Cole Harbour areas. Please stay tuned as wetry to work out the details.
