Top of the league speakers at 3rd Business Analytics Conclave Around 200 delegates, key note address by one of the top 10 analytics gurus, exciting theme, great buzz in the

industry, enthusiasm and what not was seen at the 3rd Business Analytics Conclave held in Bengaluru.

Analytics gurus from industry bigwigs like Cognizant, HSBC, eBay, Wells Fargo, Ma Foi, Tata IQ, AIG Science, GE

Digital, Societe Generale, Infosys, Lenovo, IBM and Dell gathered at Conclave on 24th February, 2017.

Among other notables were Mr. Sameer Dhanrajani, Global Business Leader, Cognizant Analytics & Data Science,

Cognizant Technology Solutions, Mr. Pankaj Rai, Sr. Vice President (Strategy), Wells Fargo & Company, Mr. Sanjay

Srivastava, Director, Analytics Leader, A Fortune 500 Company, and Mr. Ashish Singru, Sr. Director & Head, Global

Analytics Centre & Site Lead, eBay India Pvt. Ltd.

The theme of the conclave was ‘Rise of Algorithm Economy – analytics for competitive Advantage.’

International Delegates gather at ‘Nano on Energy and Water’

The three-day International Conference on “Nano on Energy & Water” (NEW

-2107) organized under the aegis of Department of Research and

Development, UPES, concluded with a Indo-French Thematic school on

Water .

The Chief Guest was Prof Ashok Misra- Chairman, BoG, IIT Roorkee, who

added another dimension to Prime Ministers ‘Make in India’ theme by

stressing that it is now time that we “Innovate in India too”.

Representatives from 6 countries including France, Malaysia, South Korea,

Slovenia, Bangladesh & USA along with representatives of Universities &

Institutes from 18 Indian states and territories participated.

300 participants, 6 plenary talks, 157 invited talks, and more than 100 poster

presentations, comprising more than 20 international water and energy

experts were the highlight of the conference.

A few notable speakers were Prof. Elena A. Rozhkova, Argonne National

Laboratory, USA and Prof. Ritesh Agarwal, University of Pennsylvania, USA,

Researchers from IITs, CSIR Labs, and Central/State Universities. 5

International Conference on Management of Infrastructure 5th edition of the two day International Conference on Infrastructure Management

(ICMI-2017) concluded on 10th February.

This year’s theme was “Business Environment” focusing on rapid changes being

witnessed in world and its potential to impact energy, infrastructure and

transportation sectors. It included internal & external business environment

(global), Infrastructure and soft Infrastructure.

The ‘Chief Guest’ was Mr. Atul Chandra, President, Petroleum Business, RIL

Mr. Ashok Bhattacharya, Editorial Director- Business Standard, Dr. Anand P.

Gupta- former professor of economics (IIM- Ahmedabad), Mr. Ashok

Bhattacharya- Editorial Director (Business Standard), Mr. Narender Kumar,

Executive Director, GAIL, Mr. Jugal Kishore, CEO, Road Railer, Delhi, Mr. S N

Verma, MD, PTCUL , Mr. P C Parekh, Former Coal Secretary, Govt of India and

many more shared thought provoking views in their address.

B. Tech Team wins 2nd position in Autonomous Drone Design & Flying Competition``

Team Phoenix from B. Tech Aerospace engineering with

specialization in Avionics comprising Nikhil Raj, Niharika,

and Shraavya won 2nd prize (cash Rs. 50000/-) and Trophy in the first

ever Autonomous Drone Design & Flying Competition held in Punjab

Engineering College, (PEC) Chandigarh on 25th and 26th Feb 2017.

The competition consists of 2 stages that include manual flying in

between the obstacles (Piloting Skills) and Autonomous flying of

Drone to complete the mission

Phoenix Outperformed other teams from various colleges like Delhi

Technical University, Amity University, IITK, Gurukul College of

Engineering and more, it even gave a tough competition to the host

teams of PEC.

The Event was sponsored by Aeronautical society of India

(Chandigarh branch) and Aeronautical Research and Development

Board (ARDB). 8

Rs.1 Lakh Cash Prize award to Team Dirt Marshall Biggest achievement in BAJA 2017 under SAEINDIA

Team (Dirt Marshall 2.0 ) secured 1st rank in “Sledge Pull” and won

Rs. 1 lakh as a cash prize BAJA SAE India 2017

Secured overall 13th Rank in India out of 413 teams

participated/registered initially with BAJA 2017

The team captain Gomish Chawla, student of B.Tech Automotive

Design Engineering course and his team feels proud to being part

of this victory

Baja SAE is an intercollegiate design competition run by the

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of students from

universities all over the world design and build small off-road cars..

The goal in Baja SAE racing is to design, build and race off-road

vehicles that can withstand the harshest elements of rough terrain.

Best Project Award to Electronics Engineering Student

Archit Agarwal, student of B.Tech Electronics Engineering course won the

Best project award for his project, “Total Cloud Surveillance and Feedback

System with Audio, Visual Interaction (T-Cloud)” at “State level” category

in Electronics stream.

It was organized by the International Society for Scientific Research and

Development (ISSRD).

The technologies used in this product were Internet of things, Cloud

Storage, Automation through MQTT protocols, GSM etc. It is the 3D

printed final Product.

This Project has been developed during RISE - 2016 and was also selected

for the final round of presentation.

Research Initiative for Students of Engineering (RISE), was launched in

UPES with an intention to encourage research activities amongst all the

undergraduate and postgraduate students of College of Engineering

Studies, School of Design Studies and School of Planning.

BBA students win B Plan Competition

A team of BBA students secured 3rd Position in the Kamala Nehru

Business Plan Competition (Delhi University) held on 24th Jan.

There were three rounds in the competition where the teams from

IIT-Delhi, NLU-Delhi, DTU and other esteemed college participated

in the contest.

The winning prize included certificate, book, discount Coupons and

Rs. 2000 as the winning amount.

The team of B-Plan competition comprised Yash Dwivedi, Suyash

Jain, Kritika Navetia.

‘Our team went twice to Delhi for competition,

secured 3nd place in Ecophoria 2017 held in Kamala Nehru College

New Delhi & again went to win 2nd Prize in Money Ball –

Commxcelsior 2017 held on 7th Feb in Kamala Nehru College New

Delhi’ informed a team member.

‘It feels great to be a UPESite. While doing my graduation at UPES, I

got an opportunity to do my 3rd semester at the University of Alberta

(Edmonton, Canada) under Student Exchange Program. Continuous

motivation and inspiration by my faculty at UPES, has inspired me to

take my studies seriously. As a result, I got fantastic opportunity to

earn international academic exposure. Thanks to my professors of

University of Alberta and Dr. Guven for guiding me throughout this

journey. The University has provided me exposure to new experiences,

challenges, different culture which has ultimately helped me grow

holistically. My experience at Alberta was wonderful. My class was a

mix crowd of people from different nations and they were primarily

working professionals who had good number of years of experience in

their respective sectors.’

Best CIO award to UPES CIO

Dr. Ashish Bharadwaj, CIO UPES was recently named as

being among the Top 50 CIOs in India during the 2016

India's Best CIOs Awards ceremony.

Dr. Bharadwaj was recognized for his work accomplished

in the area of Digital Teaching and Learning catering to

the changing student needs of today and tomorrow.

Under the aegis of the CIO Association of India, the

award was given by Ms. Geeta Phogat - freestyle

wrestler who won India's first ever gold medal in wrestling

at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and also the first

Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympic

Summer Games.

Ignite explores Prism of Possibilities across Three colleges

IGNITE-2017 was an enthralling extravaganza of events, workshops, which was filled

with both fun and learning activities.

It saw a great footfall of students with over 1500 participants across 80+ events which

includes participation of students from both external and inside.

High Level French delegation visits Campus

In an effort to further strengthen Indo-French academic collaboration, a

delegation from “n+i” network of 50 French engineering institutes

counseled students in Delhi and Uttarakhand on pursuing engineering

from France.

UPES hosted the delegation to meet with students from UPES and

outside for two days.

The delegation discussed immense opportunities available for Indian

engineering students in light of recent major collaborations between the

two nations.

Dr. Jean Pierre Trotignon, Executive Director, n+i network, said, “n+i is

not simply another academic exchange program (leading to Master’s or

PhD’s degrees) but it involves training in sciences and technology and

detailed cultural overview.UPES understands the need of international

exposure for Indian engineering students and we appreciate the

instrumental role the University plays in making international education

Record break Blood donation goes upto to 2124

The Annual Blood Donation Camp of UPES was organized

on 20th & 21st Feb at Knowledge Acres, and on 22nd , 23rd

& 24th Feb 2017 at Energy Acres Campus, jointly

by Blood Bank of Indian Medical Association and Shri

Mahant Inderesh Hospital Trust.

Day one and two at Knowledge Acres saw a donation of

603 in Units and day three, four and five at Energy Acres

the donation were 1521 donations.

Making a total of 2124 donations is a record in history of

UPES as we have broken our own record on 1564 units in

2016 .

An overwhelming response was seen, as total donations in

five days were 2124 and 391 deferred donors making a

total count of 2515 students and faculty / staff.

Expert Speaks

Mr. Rakesh Naru, Regional After Sales Manager &

Research Scholar visited UPES Campus to interact

with the students.

Mr. Naru conducted a session on ‘Sales Practices in

Automobile Industry.’

Along-with the students of BBA Auto Marketing

program, students of other BBA & MBA programs

joined this session.

It was a great session on the learning about sales

practices and its importance in the sales of vehicles

informed students.

Gender Champion Events

On 17th -18th Feb, 2017, a number of events were

organized in the Campus under Gender Champion (GC)

Club as mandated by UGC.

The club is operational at UPES under the aegis of

Directorate of Student Affairs.

GC Club aims to promote the gender equality among

students. 25 Gender Champions organized several

events and activities with full zeal and enthusiasm to

spread this message.

The various events were organized successful to spread

awareness that includes fun activities as well as serious

discussions and questions related to burning topics.

Students participated with full fervor and came forward

for the cause.

Industrial Visit completes Industrial Visit for B. Tech Aerospace Engineering with specialization

in Avionics was organised on 17th-20th January 2017

The visit turned out to be a memorable learning experience for

students who inquisitively appreciated learning practical knowledge

through this effort.

‘This 6 day industrial visit to different international companies in

Bangalore helped us get a better picture of work in an industry and

about the cooperate life working. It also helped to combine the

theoretical knowledge we acquired over the years while studying at

UPES, with the practical exposure through visiting different avenue

was really an awesome learning experience.’ – says students who

were part of the visit

The visit includes visit to Boeing Engineering Services, Limited,

Bangalore, Safran Engineering, Bangalore and Honeywell Technical

Solutions, Bangalore.

Students present Research Papers The 5th International Conference on Management of Infrastructure

(ICMI) 2017, organized UPES on 9th - 10th Feb. 2017 witnessed paper

presentation by select students of UPES.

Sanket Singh, student of BBA Auto Marketing course presented a

research paper titled, "The Impact of Government Policies and Taxes on

Organizational Performance of Automobile Industry" on 9th Feb. 2017.

This paper was co-authored by Rishi Dhar, Student of BBA Digital

Marketing .

M V S Sai Hemant, student of BBA Foreign Trade of UPES, also

presented a research paper titled, "An Analytical Study on Development

of Indian Tourism Industry with reference to Marketing.“ This paper was

co-authored by Deepasha Kapoor, Student of BBA (FT).

Dr. Ankur Kumar Rastogi, Program Head, BBA (Auto Marketing)

mentored both the papers under his supervision.

UPES energizes Entrepreneurs

The UPES Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (UCIE) has

been helping students who come up with ideas and mentors them in

best possible way.

Recently, the center has organized a startup weekend in

association with TechStart and Global Shapers from 10th – 12th

February.

Under this initiative, an event of 54 hours was organised that

spanned across three days comprising interactive and brainstorming

sessions for aspiring entrepreneurs, mentors and industry experts.

Day wise activities were conducted where participants met mentors

Athlete Meet

An athlete cannot run with money in his pocket. he must run

with hope and dreams in his head,“ with these inspiring

words UPES annual athletics meet 2017 started on 6th

February.

Nine track events and 3 field ( throws) events were

meticulously organised and scheduled for 5 days i.e. from 6

feb to 10 feb 2017.

“Winning is not everything but participation and will to win is

everything,“ with keeping these words in mind 782 boys and

123 girls from various courses from various year

participated in the events of their own choice.

Kartikey Gupta of B. Tech and Shipra Tomar of Bachelor of

Fine Arts became the fastest man and women of UPES.

UPES Students participate in TV show Few students of BBA Auto Marketing course participated in a

program, “YUVA SAMVAAD” of HNN 24x7 TV Channel on 4th Feb

2017.

Mr. Abhishek Sandal (HNN official) was the moderator of the

Program. Along with the students of other institutions, UPES

students discussed about the vision of youth towards Indian Voting

System as well as the selection of the leaders. Being a part of it,

students had a great experience.

The students belong to BBA, BA and B.Tech. courses of UPES.

The session was attended by students from various universities of

Dehradun. Two hours of intense debate on topics like - voting by

youth, party agenda, caste reservation, women’s participation,

corruption - swayed the studio.

The students asked questions to the invited panel which were

praised by the eminent guests in the panel.
