Community Development InitiativeTo some organisations their mission statement can just be words on a page. But to the CBB they are so much more than this.

CBB is committed to “building the capability and capacity of the not-for-profit sector” and this is visible through a number of initiatives.

The latest of which is an opportunity for one senior member of the sector to participate in the Professional Management Program run by The University of Adelaide. This dynamic 12 month program is practical, interactive and aims to broaden the skills of

middle to senior managers. Since 1999 over 2,000 Australian managers have completed the program.

CBB is proud to announce that Dot Towler, Administration and Projects Manager, Foodbank SA, has been offered a position to participate in the Professional Management Program which commences in October 2011.

This placement was made possible by a joint venture between CBB and The University of Adelaide.

"I really appreciate this opportunity, as this program will be a great chance to

share ideas and learn from managers from other organisations,” commented Dot.

The CBB would like to wish Dot every success during the next 12 months!

SAVE $100’s of dollars each year

Nick Begakis, AM (left) entertaining the crowd at the launch of The Social Enterprise Workshop.

The Social Enterprise Workshop (TSEW) was officially launched on August 18 2011, at CBB (Community Business Bureau) Kensington by Nick Begakis, AM.

The launch provided valuable information to members of the community who also witnessed Nick presenting CBB board member, Barry Phillips, with the license to operate TSEW in the not-for-profit sector.

TSEW is a vehicle for budding entrepreneurs (individuals or groups) who are looking to produce outcomes with a social benefit. These outcomes are envisaged to include: • a fully operational business plan for new

or existing projects• development of participants skills in

market research and planning• finance, operationalandstrategicplanning• management and presentation skills• opportunities to present the plan to

stakeholders and/or funding bodies.

CBB is delighted to have Dr Lynn Arnold and many other leaders of not-for-profitorganisations participating on the TSEW Reference Committee.

“The establishment of TSEW will make a significant contribution to the development of the skills needed by not-for-profit organisations to turn their good ideas into a successful social enterprise.”

With a rich and successful history in the commercial sector as ‘The SA Enterprise Workshop (SAEW)’, there were a number of graduates of this program at the launch, along with Carol Haslam (former Executive Director of SAEW). These successful consultants have planted the seeds in the development of Social Enterprises in the not-for-profit sector and look forward tothe many benefits produced via the nextgeneration of Social Entrepreneurs.
