What do you mean by communication ?

Communication (from Latin commūnicāre, meaning "to share" ) is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writing, or behavior. It is the meaningful exchange of information between two or more living creatures.

What do you mean by intercultural communication ?

Intercultural communication always occurs when people from different cultures meet and interact.

Inter cultural communication apprehension: Communication apprehension refers to one's anxious feelings

about communication.

McCroskey defines communication apprehension as “an individual's level of fear or anxiety associated with real or anticipated communication with another person or persons”

Types of intercultural communication apprehension:

Trait-like communication apprehension, which cuts across time, receiver, and situation

Context-based communication apprehension, which is associated with a single type of communication context cutting across receiver and time

Audience-based communication apprehension, which is associated with a single receiver or group of receivers cutting across context and time

Situational communication apprehension, which is specific to a given context with a given receiver at a given time.

The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.

To understand the relationship between EI and academic achievement,

To understand the role of teachers, parents and education curriculum for developing emotional competencies in students,

To explore the factors from secondary data which can affect the academic achievement and development of emotional Intelligence,

Role of emotional intelligence in higher education

“It is clear that academic success goes hand in hand with emotional and physical well-being.

College is a fresh start for many students, but dysfunctional coping styles can cripple their

efforts. Even students who “get by” or succeed academically can be at risk if unhealthy

behavioral patterns follow them after college. Promoting emotional health in students is an

investment in the future. It should be part of the mission of all colleges and universities.”

Contd. In short emotionally intelligent student would have better academic

achievement or through EI there is a possibility of improvement of academic achievement.

Emotionally intelligent people are more likely to succeed in everything they undertake.Teaching emotional and social skills is very important at school; it can affect academic achievement positively not only during the year they are taught, but during the years that follow as well.

Conclusion:

Results indicate that three of the emotional intelligence subscales predict intercultural communication apprehension: emotionality, sociability, and self-control. These results support the premise that emotional intelligence manages and/or reduces intercultural communication apprehension and therefore should be integrated in business curriculum
