Ways to communicate online
Email Examples: Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or Verizon
Chatting or Instant Messaging AOL Instant Messenger – AIM Gchat, Facebook chat
Social Networking Facebook, Myspace
Not online, but also texting on a cell phone
Make sure you have your parent or guardian’s permission!
Typing Online
Abbreviations Used in chatting, text, sometimes email lol jk ttyl idk
ALL CAPS MEANS YOU’RE SHOUTING!
Be Cautious!
Never share personal information online (or on the phone) unless you’re with a trusted adult Name Address Phone Age, gender
Talk to a trusted adult if anything online makes you feel scared, uncomfortable or confused
Never, ever agree to meet someone in person that you met online!
Passwords
Make them at least 6 characters long; 8 is better
A mix of letter and numbers
Ideally with punctuation and UPPER and lower case
Don’t use anything that is easily connected to you: your name, birthday, phone number, etc.
Change passwords regularly, but don’t forget them!
Tell your passwords to a trusted adult
Don’t share your passwords with anyone else, even your friends!
