This job requires a person who knows when to challenge and when not to. The candidate must be willing to bypass rules and procedures to gain results, work alone with little instruction, and likes to serve the needs of others.
She is so wonderful to have on our team. She accommodates everyone’s needs and assists them in proper procedures. She easily takes charge and leads in the right direction. I just wish I could get her to talk a little more.

Behavioural Styles – Case Studies
Case Study #1Known for his loyalty to friends and as a team player. Hard worker and a thorough researcher. Puts a premium on friendship, sometimes to a fault. A man at peace with himself. Relates easily and warmly in small groups but freezes in public forums. Is a worrier. Top achiever who is cool under pressure. Family is sacred. Shortcoming may be his inability to react quickly to unexpected turn of events.
Primary Style :________________ Potential SecondaryStyle:______________
Case Study #2This person is motivated to be amiable, easy-going, and relaxed. Is a natural team player and enthusiastic. Likes to get results through others. May make some decisions without gathering all the facts necessary. Usually very optimistic, may be seen as unrealistic. Dislikes conflict. Comfortable talking with all types of people; may tend to judge others by their verbal skills. Shortcoming may be lack of time control and his natural tendency to trust others may cause him to trust the wrong people.
Primary Style :________________ Potential Secondary Style:______________
www.GrowingCoaches.com©2013 Excel Group Development -No Unauthorized Duplication
Case Study # 3
Highly competitive and somewhat egotistical, is always looking for a new challenge. High energy level may leave many co-workers frustrated trying to keep up. True visionary in his thinking, always looking at the big picture. Well informed on many subjects, can talk spontaneously on almost anything and has an opinion on everything. Has a very private side to his personality that few people see, and therefore requires a special place where he can be alone to think periodically. Shortcoming may be his inability to sustain energy for project completion after the challenge has been conquered.

FAQQ. What is the difference between the DISC and Motivators parts of the profile?
A. DISC talks about observable behaviour – the “How” of our actions. Motivators are experienced through knowing a person; they are the “Why” we do things. Together, they allow us to understand the whole person – both how they are behaving, and why.
Q. How much does a person’s profile change over time?
A. In the Excel DISC profile, the most changeable aspect is the Adapted Style. The Adapted Style is in response to an individual’s current environment, and if the environment significantly changes (new job, new boss, shift in focus) the Adapted Style may change as well. When it comes to Natural Style and Motivators, there is not generally much change that occurs once a person has reached their early-to-mid 20’s, with the exception of a significant life experience (e.g. being a cancer survivor may produce change).
Q. What if a person’s natural style (dot) or adapted style (star) doesn’t appear on the wheel?
A. This does not happen frequently but when it does, it is due to a certain pattern on their DISC graph,either:
• An overshift, where all four DISC factors plot above the midline
· An undershift, where all four points are below the midline
· A tight graph, where all points are very close to the midline (below or above)
When any of these occur, it tends to be in the Adapted Graph, and is usually a sign of a change in the person’s environment. It can also be the result of a person who is a bit of a “chameleon” (highly adaptable to their environment). At times, in the absence of extraordinary circumstances,
www.GrowingCoaches.com©2013 Excel Group Development -No Unauthorized Duplication
· Les quatre facteurs ou points DISC se trouvent au-dessus de la barre du milieu (+ de 50 sur l’échelle de 100);
· Les quatre facteurs ou points DISC se trouvent sous la barre du milieu (- de 50 sur l’échelle de 100);
we can manually plot the dot or star on the wheel, by looking at their two highest factors on the graph. E.g. If D = 72, I = 82, S = 53, C = 51, then we can place the dot (if natural graph) or star (if adapted) in the I (Yellow) quadrant, in a section where D is also above the line, in section 13 (see the Wheel with Graphs).
Q. Is a big difference between the Natural and the Adapted Style graphs stressful?
A. We consider it to be a significant adaptation when 4 of the 4 DISC factors differ by more than 30 percent and cross the midline of the graph.
Note: One main way in which a person may experience a significant adaptation is loss of energy.
