Common Core Standards for Mathematics
Standards for Mathematical Practice• Carry across all grade levels• Describe habits of mind of a mathematically
expert studentStandards for Mathematical Content• K-8 standards presented by grade level• Organized into domains that progress over
several grades

Grade Level Content Standards
• Standards define what students should understand and be able to do.
• Clusters summarize groups of related standards. Note that standards from different clusters may sometimes be closely related, because mathematics is a connected subject.
• Domains are larger groups of related standards. Standards from different domains may sometimes be closely related.

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively3. Construct viable arguments and critique the
reasoning of other 4. Model with mathematics5. Use appropriate tools strategically 6. Attend to precision 7. Look for and make use of structure8. Look for an express regularity in repeated
reasoning

High School Standards
Conceptual themes in high school• Number and Quantity• Algebra• Functions• Modeling• Geometry• Statistics and ProbabilityCollege and career readiness threshold• (+) standards indicate material beyond the threshold;
can be in courses required for all students.

Application of CC Standards for English Language Learners and Special Education Students
• All students should be held to the same high expectations
• Standards identify knowledge and skills students need to be successful in college and careers
• ELLs and SpEd students require:– additional time – aligned assessments – appropriate instructional support provided by well prepared
and qualified teachers and personnel – accommodations as per IEP (SpEd)– **access to the same curriculum as their peers

Design and Organization
Three main sections• K−5 (cross-disciplinary)• 6−12 English Language Arts• 6−12 Literacy in History/Social Studies,
Science, and Technical SubjectsShared responsibility for students’ literacy development
Three appendices• A: Research and evidence; glossary of key terms• B: Reading text exemplars; sample performance tasks• C: Annotated student writing samples

Intentional Design Limitations
What the Standards do NOT define:• How teachers should teach• All that can or should be taught• The nature of advanced work beyond the core• The interventions needed for students well below grade level• The full range of support for English language learners and
students with special needs• Everything needed to be college and career ready
![Page 11: Common Core Standards for Mathematics](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062517/568138a8550346895da067e6/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
College and Career Readiness (CCR) anchor standards
• Broad expectations • Consistent across grades and content areas• Based on evidence about college and workforce training expectations• Range and content

The K–5 standards on the following pages define what students should understand and be able to do in each grade and build toward the ten College and Career Readiness Standards.
Key Ideas and DetailsKey Ideas and Details1.Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.2. Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.3. Analyze in detail where, when, why, and how events, ideas, and characters develop…

K−12 standards
• Grade-specific end-of-year expectations• Developmentally appropriate, cumulative
progression of skills and understandings• One-to-one correspondence with CCR

Language
Conventions of standard EnglishKnowledge of language (standards 1−3)• Using standard English in formal writing and speaking• Using language effectively and recognizing language varieties
Vocabulary (standards 4−6)• Determining word meanings and word nuances• Acquiring general academic and domain-specific words and
phrases
