Commodores Ball January 12 2013
It’s the begining and the end!
Please join us and witness as Dennis Kroeger brings his successful
year as Commodore to an end and hands over the helm of the club to
Incoming Commodore Paul Quinn.
Dennis will recognize all that worked hard to make his term complete.
Watch as Paul introduces the new Bridge, Board Members, Officers
and Appointees. He will also share his plans for the new year.
Host PC Rick and Sharon Lee start this evening, at the Hook & Plow
Restaurant in the Seattle Marriott Waterfront-2100 Alaskan Way at
6:00PM with Cocktails & Music and Dinner at 7:00PM followed by
presentations, introductions and dancing.
Please reserve for this event to PC Rick Lee at
253-350-4263 or [email protected] by
12-31-2012 with your dinner choice of Beef,
Chicken or Veggie. The cost is $60 per person.
A very Happy New Year to all! I
sincerely hope that everyone had
a very joyful and happy holiday
season. During this time of year
the thoughts of boating activities
seem a distant second to the
hustle and bustle of the season.
But, the boat show is later this
month and soon we’ll be thinking
about the upcoming boating year.
For those of you I have not yet
had the pleasure to meet, please
allow me to introduce myself. My
name is Paul Quinn and I am
proud to serve as the 36th
Commodore of the Hidden
Harbor Yacht Club for this
coming year. I would like to
thank Dennis Kroeger for the
outstanding job he did as
Commodore for 2012. He has left
some pretty large shoes to fill and
I promise to work hard to keep
things moving in a positive and
forward direction. But he is not
alone on the list of people to
thank for the past year. My
appreciation and hat goes off to
all who served on the Board of
Directors, the Officers and the
Appointees, and those who hosted
and co-hosted events. And last,
but not least, all of you that make
Hidden Harbor so much fun. This
is truly a wonderful club with
great people.
Well the New Year is upon us and
I have posted the event schedule.
This year I am hoping to have co-
hosts for each event. Hopefully
we will get some of the newer
members to step up and help out.
Co-hosting reduces the work load
for the hosts, gives everyone a
chance to get to know each other
better, and affords us more time
to chat and visit. We are still
looking for some hosts and co-
hosts for a couple of the events,
but I am certain that folks will
step up and these will get filled.
And speaking of events for this
year, the Commodores’ Ball is
just around the corner. PC Rick
and Sharon Lee have a great
venue for this year’s activities.
The event is at the Waterfront
Marriott in downtown Seattle.
They are offering a special rate
for HHYC members who wish to
spend the night or nights
surrounding the Commodores
Ball. Use the Code “Commodore”
to receive the discount. You may
not recognize many of the people
at the event because they are not
going to be in their normal
boating attire. Many look like
penguins, many are in suits or
semi formal attire and some in
jeans, shirts and tennis shoes. But
regardless of how you dress you
are welcome to attend, and one
thing is for sure, you will have a
great time. And it is a great time
t o t h a n k o u r o u t g o i n g
Commodore, Dennis Kroeger
and Brynn Sheridan, for their
service and commitment to the
club.
As we look to the future I am very
interested in what you have to say
about the club and the way it is
run. I want to know what is
important, to you, as far as
activities, places, meetings,
agendas and whatnot. I can handle
the bad as well as the good. I will
make myself available anytime
you want to talk with me.
We now move into the New Year
and I am excited about the events
and the arrival of summer Hope to
see you all at the Commodores
Ball on Jan 12.

Early Monday morning, December 17, members Howard and
Chandell Gray lost their beloved boat Dream. They were tied to
the Kirkland public dock after hosting a group of children for an
evening of cruising with the Christmas Ships. Two of the three
boats tied to the dock that night sunk. Howard and Chandell were
sleeping aboard, and were able to escape their partially-submerged
vessel without injury. After the boat was re-floated there did not
appear to be any hull breaches or fitting failures. The probable
cause was strong wind and waves pushing water into the cockpit.
We are thankful that no one was hurt, and our best wishes go out
to Howard and Chandell for their loss. We hear that they are al-
ready in the market for a replacement vessel as they cannot bear to
be away from the water. PC Mike Howshar
The first boating event of the year is at Blake Island February 22-24. PC Bob & Kris Ridenour along with co host Earl & Leslie Summers are planning Wine, Steaks and Rain. All the details next month. Some of the events planned this year, still need hosts. If you would like to try your hand at hosting or co hosting (don’t worry the club members at the events always help out and make it easy) please contact Com. Paul at 206-719-7199.
