Hope all is well. First and foremost, I would like to thank the mem-
bership for the vote of confidence for electing me Commodore. I
would like to "THANK" Jerry for the past 2 years he devoted to the
club, and wish him well as a PC. I'm looking forward to working with
the Bridge Officers, BOG's, the Membership, Holly and the Women's
Auxiliary, to move the club ahead in the next year. At the October
BOG I will be selecting Chairmen to head certain committees. If you
would like to be a Chairman or a member of a committee, please, let
me know.
I was asked to review the criteria for being a Steward for a "Nonmember Rentals”.
Any Full Club Member can be a Steward. He must open the club, help supervise the set-
up of the rental, remain on site during the rental and supervise the cleanup when the
rental concludes. He also must make sure the entire club is as it was prior to the rental.
The rental period is for 8 hours. For this he will receive $75.00.
To be a Steward/Bartender, you must be all of the above, plus, be approved and trained
by the Bar Chairman and/or by a member of his Committee, as well as the Club bartender
as to how to handle drinking guests and bar procedures, including cleanup of the
club. For this he will receive $75.00 for the Steward and $75.00 for bartending.
For more info on this matter please see me, the Vice-Commodore Jim Candia , or the Bar
Chairman, Leigh Brethauer.
In closing, if you would like to see or run a club function/party or have a idea for one, let
me or one of the Bridge Officers know and we will bring it up at the next meeting.

1 Another year on the bridge comes to an end, but next year promises to
offer another opportunity for fun and camaraderie as your Vice Com-
modore. Congratulations to the outgoing Bridge and especially Commo-
dore Felitti who leaves us after 2 years of stellar service, and welcome
to the incoming Bridge who under Commodore Ron Tholen is sure to get
things done in 2015.
As my term as Rear Commodore winds down, there are a few thoughts
I would like to leave you with:
The wonderful natural resource we have in the Barnegat Bay and At-
lantic coastline is not as hearty as we would like to believe. It takes conservation and
watchfulness to ensure this resource will be healthy for generations to come. Recently I
heard about the woes experienced in the Chesapeake Bay. Oysters are mostly gone from
the entire watershed and for the first time ever, crabs cannot be found anywhere around
Annapolis. Keep in mind that the Chesapeake Bay watershed is the primary hatchery for
Striped Bass along the eastern seaboard. Let's remember that nature’s gifts can be
quickly destroyed if we are not careful stewards of our precious and fragile environ-
ments.
This is also true of our club. It always seems to pull through another year, but it also
seems that fewer and fewer members participate in events or step forward to help. It
takes all of us working and having fun together for the club to continue to be successful.
Recently, I sent out notice that the ASMFC is looking for comments on proposed Striped
Bass regulations. After attending the public hearing, I have a better understanding of
the situation and the options available. The stated goal of the new regulations is to re-
duce Striped Bass mortality by 25% to avoid an overfished situation that imperils the
fishery. None of the "A" options have a chance of achieving this goal. All of the "B" Op-
tions have at least a 50/50 chance of achieving this goal in 2015. The "C" Options have at
least a 50/50 chance of achieving this goal, but stretched out over three years. Option C
reduces bag limits or imposes a higher minimum size each year from 2015 - 2017, meaning
a negative impact for a longer period of time. Option D is considered a non-starter since
it requires legislative action in each of the next three years. A legislative delay could lead
to a fishery closure. After listening to the public comments, I now support Option B5 (2
fish at minimum 33"), which is expected to reduce mortality by 29%. Maintaining a two
fish bag limit is an important consideration for our club since a one fish limit threatens
the viability of our Bass fishing tournaments, a significant source of club revenue.
Congratulations to our 2014 Angler of the Year Tournament winners. I will be giving out
the awards at the Commodore's Cocktail Party on September 27th. (See page 6)

John Howell Fleet Captain Hello, tuna club members (aka chowdaheads) - Wanted to invite you all to the LBI Chowderfest on
Sunday, 05 October.
The LBI Chowderfest is celebrating its twenty-first annual chowder competition this year. The
Event is held on the Beach Haven Fairgrounds. Count on close to ten thousand people (or more) if
the weather cooperates and it turns out to be a beautiful sunny October day. There will be food
tents, beer trucks, live bands and plenty of chowder. The competition pits restaurants on LBI and
the surrounding area against each other as they vie for the coveted title of “Best chowder 2014”
for both the New England and the Manhattan varieties. You will be able to sample their award
winning chowders (as many times as you desire) and then vote for your favorite. You will be
amazed at the difference in taste between the chowders in each category.
A few notes and tips to help with the Chowderfest learning curve, if you haven’t been there
before… You will receive a red token and a white token at the gate when you purchase your fes-
tival entry ticket. You are asked to place the token in the jar corresponding to the restaurant
with the best chowder after completing your taste testing.
This year’s Chowderfest theme is “CLAMICON”. Keep the theme in mind if you are feeling crea-
tive when selecting your wardrobe for the day or when designing and constructing a unique clam
sample palette. There will be judging and awards for the best dressed chowderhead, etc.
The ABSOLUTE KEY TO ENJOYING YOUR CHOWDER AND NOT BURNING YOUR FINGERS is
to bring along a muffin baking tin or to purchase, or construct a clam chowder palette.
ReClam the Bay has chowder sampling pallets available at the
event (see insert). You will quickly realize how handy this tool
is after waiting in line for chowder and only being able to
handle two small sample cups. The donations received by RCTB
for the palettes are used to buy clam seed for replenishing/
restocking Barnegat Bay. RCTB has put close to three million
clams in the bay each of the past eight years from the dona-
tions collected at the Chow- derfest. The RCTB palettes are
only $10 and they do sell out. I can arrange a prepurchase of pal-
ettes if there is interest. We will hold your reserved palettes at the RCTB tent.
Tickets at the gate are $20. VIP ticket package includes early entry for tasting and voting along
with this year’s t-shirt for $50.
Please arrange your own transportation to the event (think of it as a raft up).
We will use the ReClam the Bay tent as a rally point.

Recording Secretary Greg Domalewski Highlights of the September 11, 2014 BOG Meeting
Called to order by commodore Jerry Felitti.
Monthly Reports
Recording Secretary Greg Domalewski—Motion passed to approve min-utes of August 2014 BOG meeting.
Treasurer Ron Tholen—Total cash on hand $17,595.58.
Commodore Jerry Felitti—Ron Tholen has done a great job heading the Building and Grounds Committee. The Tournament Committee could use some help from membership with the upcoming tournaments, see Guido if you are available. The Commodore’s Cocktail Party is coming up on September 27, bring a dish to share and come out to the Club.
The Change of Watch will occur on October 4 and Commodore Felitti would like to see
participation rise at these events. This past weekend, PC Lenzo held a wedding at the Club
and the Club cleaned up very nicely, pictures of the event will follow. In regard to the ABC
violation, Lieutenant Di Bella called and informed the Club that the violation was referred
back to the LTPD and they have decided to pursue no further charges.
Vice Commodore Ron Tholen - Please refer to calendar, flyers and website for upcoming events. Rentals were approved for the following dates: October 25, 26, November 8, 15 and December 13. The Club dodged a bullet with the ABC. Membership helped smooth the situa-tion over with the Police Department. The Club has been enacting a policy regarding rentals being required to have a Steward, and if alcohol is being served, then a bartender as well. See Ron Tholen for details.
Rear Commodore Jim Candia—reviewed Angler of the Year results. (See page 10)
Fleet Captain Dan Tholen—Absent. Fluke trip September 20, $100 pp, see Dan for info.
Corresponding Secretary Pat Shulack—No report.

construction guys— Chris Sullivan, Guido Giffoniello, Doug McCarron for all their help. The
Chit Chat room will be the next big project.; Tournament—The Tuna Tournament is coming up.
The Annual Tournament went very well with an uptick in anglers. The Captain’s Meeting for
the Tuna Tournament will be Friday, September 19. The following Monday thru Thursday
members will be present for late signups. The Tournament will run from September 26– 28.
The Bass & Blues tournament is also coming up. The Flea Market will be in October. We
already have 16 inside tables and 1 outside table signed up.; Budget/Finance— The Club

recipients.; Recruitment—No update. Commodore thanked the Committee for a job well done.
Old Business—Clubs in the area are seeing if they can use our outside grill and seeing if they can finance it. The Pig Roast turned a profit of $67. The outside rental fee is $475, with $325 going to the club, $75 to the Steward and $75 to the bartender.

The next Friday Night Dinner will be an Italian Buffet, September 12. The Change of Watch
menu was reviewed. The German butcher cancelled his Octoberfest , so he won’t need to
borrow our tent.
New Business—Motions made and passed to renew membership to the JCAA for $500, to do-
nate $50 to the Lacey PBA and purchase a new phone for the Galley. There is a current copy
of the By-Laws in the library. Leigh Brethauer received a call from the Lacey Historical Soci-
ety. They were looking for volunteers to help unload pumpkins and apples for the Festival.
See Leigh or call the Historical to help. A gentleman pulled up before the meeting and said he
had an anchor similar to the one on the front lawn and wanted to know if we would be inter-
ested in purchasing it. The Club has no interest in making the purchase.
Communications—The following communications were received—thank you for our donation to
the Captain Jeff Stearman Memorial; notification to renew membership to the JCAA and a
request for sponsorship; request for a donation to the Lacey PBA; thank you letter from
Sarah Jakowitz for the scholarship she received; thank you from Heroes on the Water for
our donation of $728 from the Armed Forces Dinner; thank you from the Wounded Warriors
for our $200 donation from the Armed Forces Dinner.

ing, October 9. Dues notices will be going out in the next month. Latin Night will be held next

“Sick Bay” As most of you know, our President, Holly Candia, underwent extensive surgery a few weeks ago. All went well and she is now on the long road to recuperation. It was nice to see her at the Club on Friday looking much better than the first time I saw her after she came home. Lets keep praying for her continued mending to go smoothly. Lina Kazala had heart surgery. After spending some time in Deborah Hospital post-op, she was transferred to a facility for cardiac rehab. Unfortunately, while there she suffered a set back and was rushed back to the hospital, this time Community Hospital. I spoke with her and hear that the doctors were hoping to send her back to cardiac rehab soon. She can, certainly, use all the well wishes and prayers that we can send her way. She will be, once again, undergoing the cardiac rehab at HealthSouth Hospital in Toms River. As if the Candia family has not had enough, Nick Candia, Jim and Holly’s son, had a health scare. He was rushed to the hospital after suffering some nausea and tingling in his extremities. Blood tests and EKG were done and the results prompted the doctors to suggest Nick see a cardiologist. Nick saw the cardiologist last week. Since the doctor saw something concerning, Nick will be wearing a heart monitor this week to give the doctor well needed info. We certainly hope the results will put Nick back into his regular routine with a clean bill of health. Let's keep Nick in our prayers. I will keep you posted as I get updates. Megan Ostovich was recently injured at work. She was setting up for a charity run and while testing an ATV that would be used to respond to emergencies, she was thrown from it. Megan sustained a severe concussion and a ruptured ear drum. Let’s keep her in our prayers for a speedy recovery.
Congratulations” to Joe and Marlene Cleveland on the birth of their new grandchildren. Son Joseph and Stephanie had a baby boy, July 28. Baby Joseph Declan weighed in at 10 lbs 1 ounces! Joseph was deployed at the time and came home August 26 and met his new son. A very special homecoming that was!! Daughter Kelly and husband, Rob Stevenson had a baby boy on July 29. Blake Allen weighed in at 10 lbs 5 ounces! Best wishes to all.
“Ladies, let’s do lunch” will meet at Via Napoli, 510 Rt. 9, Lanoka Harbor, on Tuesday, October 14, at 12 noon. Call Millie and let her know if you will be attending.
