My opening lecture

Overview

• Builds on foundations of object-orientation met in CO320.

• Application structures– Inheritance– Interfaces– GUIs– Input-output– Design

Course structure

• Two lectures per week.• One class per week.• Three assignments.• “Objects first with Java …” is the course

text.• You will need to develop a practical

ability to write programs to pass this course.

What must I do to pass?

Essential points

• Absorb the culture – come to lectures.

• Read about programming – follow up with a textbook.

• But … do it! Write programs; both in classes and outside.

• Around 10 hours per week of work.• 2x1hr lectures + 2x1hr follow ups.• 1x1hr class.• Around 5hrs of additional work on the

course material: reading, finishing class material, doing further exercises, assessments.
