The Tuggeranong Torpedoes ran well at the Canberra Royal Show flyball comp at the end of February. With the last minute scratching of Harvi (a backbone of the Torpedoes) due to illness, we welcomed Harry to his first ever flyball comp. Harry ran extremely well, especially for a first comp, and for having to run consistently for two days in a row, and despite his two sudden exits from the ring to answer Nature’s call. Our new handlers, who commenced training on 20 Feb, are all progressing very well, remaining committed even though the weather has turned cold. We expect to see some of our new handlers coming out for the next comp at Commonwealth Park on 21st May to celebrate the Million Paws Walk. Following that we will have two days of racing at the ACT State Titles – Winter Classic on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of June (this will be held at the Tuggeranong Archery Club, just down the road, so come out and watch, and cheer on your team). Flyball is a relay race between two teams of four dogs. Each dog runs as fast as they can over four low jumps, grabs a ball from the flyball box, and races back over the jumps, so the next dog can start their run. Any breed of dog can do flyball – we really like the little dogs as they keep the jumps low and easy for everyone else. Dogs must be 12 months of age to start competing. More information about flyball is available on the TDTC website or by emailing [email protected]

Rally Obedience (commonly called Rally O) is often described as a combination of Agility and Obedience. TDTC has classes on Wednesday night 7-8. If you would like to find out more please speak to your instructor.

Obedience Trials – TDTC We hosted Obedience Trials at the club last Sat. A great day – dodged the rain – and we received some fantastic reviews from the Canberra clubs and Interstate club members who attended. Thank you to all who volunteered their time to make lunches for the judges, be stewards, set up and pack up etc. Greatly appreciated by all involved Congratulations to Sarah & Harry who did a wonderful job representing the club in two sections across the day and achieving a place.

Breeding Doubt

I’m a dog trainer. Before

I met with a new client, I

had her fill out a

questionnaire. One

question asked, “Why did

you choose this breed?”

My client responded, “I

often ask myself this very

same question.”

Why Aren’t Dogs…

Q: Why aren’t dogs good

dancers?

A: Because they have

two left feet!

Beware of Dog

As the stranger enters a

country store, he spots a

sign: "Danger! Beware of

Dog!" Inside, he sees a

harmless old hound

asleep in the middle of

the floor.

"Is that the dog we’re

supposed to beware of?"

he asks the owner.

"That’s him," comes the

reply.

"He doesn’t look

dangerous to me. Why

would you post that

sign?"

"Before I posted that

sign, people kept tripping

over him."
