Community Involvement – Caring About Our Community
Our Chamber’s mission is to develop, support and promote business and our community, while theChamber’s vision is to enhance the quality of life. The theory and the reality in West Orange is thatsuccessful businesses are those that can and will give back to a community. In West Orange, we arefortunate to realize the vision everyday.
The successful Chamber businesses, their business owners, employees, volunteers and Chamber staff allgive back to the community in many ways and throughout the year. We all take pride in our communityand help celebrate its events and participate in many programs and boards that benefit so many. Here’sjust some of what we all did together in 2005:

WEST ORANGE / SOUTH LAKE TRANSPORTATION TASK FORCEANNUAL MEETING SUMMARY
The West Orange / South Lake Transportation Task Force held their annual meeting on Monday, October 31st.The purpose of the meeting was to update the public on everything the Task Force has worked on this past yearand what is planned for 2006.
People presenting at the annual meeting included, State Representative Randy Johnson, Florida Departmentof Transportation (FDOT) District Secretary George Gilhooley, Brian Sanders of Orange County, Jim Stivenderof Lake County, Dave Grovdahl of Metro Plan Orlando, T.J. Fish of Lake/Sumter MPO and Steve Precourt,Chairman of the West Orange / South Lake Transportation Task Force.
The majority of the meeting focused on S.R. 50. The funding for the portion of S.R. 50 in Lake County hasbeen secured. The monies to widen this section of S.R. 50 in Lake County (Hancock Rd to Avalon Rd) will betaken from the rental car surcharge tax in Orange County. There is a shortfall in the funding of the WinterGarden / Ocoee (Avalon Rd to Good Homes Rd.) segment that will need a partnership to become fully funded.
The funding short fall for the Avalon Road to Good Homes Road segment of S.R.50 is approximately$80,000,000. Of this $80,000,000, $28,000,000 has been included in the FDOT 5 year Work Program. Half ofthe remaining $52,000,000 could potentially be funded with TRIPS funds, providing the local community cancome up with a 50% match of $26,000,000. Right-of-way can be considered as a contribution that could comeoff of the $26,000,000 match. It was also announced that Orange County is also currently petitioning theFDOT TRIPS funding for C.R. 535.
Precourt, Chairman of The West Orange / South Lake Transportation Task Force, reported that the Task Forcewill continue to focus its attention on S.R. 50 and will also watch the progress of Hartwood Marsh Road, aconnector road between U.S. 27 and S.R. 429, C.R. 545, C.R. 535 and Hartle Road improvements.
