Volgens polisiewoordvoerder Konstabel Glenda Maimele het Ferdie Labuschagne en Richard Bouwer ongeveer drieuur Saterdagoggend in plantasies in Agatha gery toe hul viertrek voertuig omgeslaan het.

Andr Smit van Agatha Safety and Security (ASAS) s hulle het rondom sesuur die oggend n oproep kry dat daar n ongeluk was en dat iemand vasgekeer l onder n voertuig.Aanvanklik was die inligting vaag, maar namate hulle gesoek het, het meer inligting aan die lig gekom.

Richard het wonderbaarlik sy selfoon in die hande gekry en sy broer geskakel. Tien ASAS lede het ure lank na die wrak gesoek terwyl Richard oor die foon hulle roete verduidelik het. Die soektog het stadig gevorder in die ruig beboste gebied en die reddingspan het n paar keer die viertrek se spoor verloor, wat hulle etlike kilometers op n slag terrugedwing het.

Richard het die viertrek se toeter gedruk om sy posisie aan te dui aangesien die voertuig so gekamofl eer was dat die reddingspan selfs net 200m weg nie die voertuig kon sien nie.

Hulle is net na agt die oggend uiteindelik opgespoor, maar Ferdie is op die toneel oorlede. Die reddingspoging is egter nog verder vertraag aangesien die ambulans nie die ruie bospad kon baasraak nie.

Nadat reddingswerkers Richard bevry het, moes hy n ent gedra word na n viertrek voertuig wat hom na die ambulans kon neem. Hy is per ambulans hospitaal toe geneem, gestabiliseer deur personeel van ER24, en van daar Pretoria toe gevlieg vir verdere behandeling. Hy het n gebreekte pelvis, gebarste blaas en beskadigde nier opgedoen, maar sy prognose is goed.

Ferdie word Donderdag (vandag) om elfuur vanuit die NG Moedergemeente Tzaneen begrawe.

IN an article published in last weeks paper it was incorrectly stated that cones placed in front of the Joseph Costa Centre in Danie Joubert Street were to reserve parking for police vehicles.

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused as well as to set the facts straight.

In fact, these cones were placed to reserve parking for customers.

According to Rex Goulding, owner of the Joseph Costa Centre, a security guard is on duty at all times and will remove the cones when he sees a customer

approaching. He is also there to ensure customers adhere to the 30 minute parking time.

Goulding says they regularly get customers who park there in the morning and head off into town for the day.

This, combined with unauthorized vehicles parking there, resulted in a shortage of available spaces for customers.

The cones are thus there for the customers convenience, to ensure suffi cient parking space is always available.

Cone Confusion - Correction

POLICE in Tzaneen have arrested 99 people for various criminal activities over the past week.

According to the Tzaneen police spokesperson, Constable Glenda Maimele, three people were arrested for common assault, fi ve for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one for crimen injuria, and three people were arrested for shoplifting.

Seven people were arrested for theft, three for fraud, two for housebreaking and theft and two people were arrested for malicious damage to property.

One person was arrested for the possession of a dangerous

weapon, two for possession of suspected stolen property, one person was arrested for drunken driving and two people were arrested for child neglect.

One person was arrested for murder, eight for illegal gambling, 17 for prostitution and nine people were arrested for public drinking.

Two people were arrested for possession of counterfeit goods, six for reckless and negligent driving, two for contravening the Liquor Act and 22 people were arrested for contravening the Road Traffi c Act.

THE two local Rotary clubs almalgamate after a period of 27 years during a special occasion on June 21 at the Letaba Rotary clubhouse, and it also serves as the annual Tzaneen Rotary President Induction.

The new club will be called Tzaneen Rotary Club and the weekly meetings will now be held at the Letaba clubhouse on Tuesdays

evenings at 19:00.The new President that was inducted for the

year was Neels van der Merwe. The Rotarian of the year for outstanding work to Rotary was Dolf Smith. There was also a new board for the ensuing year: Dolf Smith, Jaques Van Niekerk, Peter Chick, Alan Kenney and the new President Neels van Der Merwe.

A FORMER employee of Food Lovers Market, Laminga Jacobs was found guilty of theft by the Tzaneen magistrate court on Monday.

She pleaded guilty to the charges against her and an agreement was made between herself and her former company that she will pay back each and every cent she stole from the store. Jacobs admitted to stealing an amount of R350 000 from the cash offi ce where she was placed on January 1. It was only discovered this year that Jacobs had

stolen the huge sum of money which led to her dismissal in April this year.

She was sentenced to eight years imprisonment with fi ve years suspended under the conditions that she doesnt commit any fraud crime and that she pays the Food Lovers Market R5542.37 before or on

the 7th of every month. If she commits any offence within the fi ve years, the eight years imprisonment will be active.

Binne gekom, vra een om die badkamer te gebruik. Nadat sy n lang ruk weg was, sluit sy haar weer aan by die tweede dame en hulle vertrek. Na hul vertrek stap die dame na die slaapkamer. Daar gekom, merk sy dat elke laai en kas deursoek is. Waardevolle juwele en onvervangbare erfstukke is gebuit.

Soos in hierdie geval bewys is, raak dit deesdae al hoe moeiliker om n krimineel uit te ken. Dit is dus van uiterste belang om heeltyd op die uitkyk vir moontlike gevare.

Moet nooit vreemdelinge in jou huis toelaat wanneer jy alleen is nie.

Vra hulle om eerder n afspraak te maak en maak dan seker dat iemand anders teenwoordig is tydens die ontmoeting. Die veiligheid van jou en jou gesin is belangriker as om iemand se gevoelens seer te maak. Meeste mense behoort egter te verstaan aangesien almal meer veiligheidsbewus is as in vroer jare.

Couple in court for child neglectA COUPLE appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrates Court on charges of child neglect on Monday.

According to the police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the man aged 28 and his 27 year-old female partner were arrested on Saturday for leaving a two month-old baby boy inside a parked vehicle at a shopping mall in Tzaneen.

They were released on a warning and will appear in court again on August 19, pending further investigations.

Ngoepe said the boy was found inside the vehicle, with the windows closed.

Security guards heard the baby crying and alerted the police, said Ngoepe.

The man and woman were found inside the mall, where they were shopping, and they

were arrested.The baby boy was rescued from the vehicle

and taken to hospital for a medical check up.He was later released into his parents

custody.

HORSKOOL Merensky het uitsonderlik presteer tydens die SAOU gala-toekenningsfunksie op 27 Junie te Pretoria.

Die SAOU maak elke drie jaar toekennings aan uitstaande prestasies in verskeie kategorie ten einde skole en leerkragte te vereer.

Merensky het die prestasie behaal om in nie minder as twee kategorie deur te dring na die Nasionale Ronde.

In die kategorie vir skooltoekennings, was die twee fi naliste vir die Bevordering van die Afrikaanse Kultuur deur middel van die Uitvoerende Kunste, Horskool Merensky en Horskool Witteberg van die Vrystaat.

Horskool Merensky verower die toekenning as die top SAOU Kultuurskool in Suid-Afrika.

Die beoordelingspan was besonder beindruk met Merensky se diversiteit en gehalte van hul prestasies op kultuurvlak. Daarom was hierdie aanwysing as Nasionale kategoriewenner n welverdiende beloning vir jare se werk.

Daar is ook toekennings aan individue gemaak.In die kategorie Klaskamerpraktyk Horskole

was die twee fi naliste n wetenskap onderwyser van Horskool Diamantveld in die Kaap en Fransie le Roux, Afrikaans onderwyser van Horskool Merensky. Le Roux is aangewys as die nasionale wenner in hierdie kategorie.

Sou mens in ag neem dat beide 2013 se top matriekkandidate in Limpopo vir Afrikaans huistaal n Afrikaans eerste addisionele taal uit Le Roux se klas gekom het, is dit n sprekende bewys van gehalte onderrig in Plasieland.

Hierdie toekennings is vir Tzaneen en omgewing n merkwaardige gebeurtenis, aangesien alle SAOU skole hieraan kon deelneem. Siende dat 3,727 skole in die land SAOU lede is, maak dit die prestasie soveel meer merkwaardig.

Nie alleen behaal Merensky die besondere prestasie om die enigste skool uit Limpopo te wees wat benoem is vir twee toekennings nie, maar ook met twee Nasionale toekennings weg te stap.

Die toekennings is gemaak tydens n glansgeleentheid te Utopia Place in Lynnwoodweg waar alle meningsvormers in die onderwys teenwoordig was.

Merensky presteer uitstekend tydens SAOU-funksieDr Fritz Kok,voormalige ATKV-hoof, tans voorsitt er van die Noordelike Helpmekaarfonds, Fransie le Roux, Dr Jopie Breedt, president SAOU.

THE eating of insects has been an integral part of African culture through the ages.

Insects are a good source of protein, vitamins, minerals and essential fats; they are not just a source of nutrition in times of food scarcity, but form an important part of traditional diets.

Bronwyn Egan has recently completed her PhD on the cultural and economic importance of edible insects in the Blouberg area, Limpopo. She identifi ed 29 species of insects eaten in the region; the best-known of which is the mopane worm, actually the caterpillar of an Emperor moth. She will tell members about these and other delicacies, including termites, grasshoppers and stinkbugs (yes, really!) This promises to be a fascinating topic. There will be some

samples available for tasting. Bronwyn obtained a BSc Honours

degree in Zoology at the University of the Witwatersrand and a Masters degree at the University of Port Elizabeth. Aftter working in the eastern Cape for 10 years, Bronwyn and her herpetologist husband Vincent, moved to Limpopo. She is currently the curator of the Larry Leach Herbarium, Department of Biodiversity, University of Limpopo; and lives in Haenertsburg.

SOLIDARITY Helping Hand reopened applications for its Lunchbox Project last week in response to numerous requests from nursery schools to be included in the project.

Helping Hand will already feed more than 4 000 preschoolers from July until the end of the school year through this project. After the project kicked off at the beginning of the month, a large number of schools requested Helping Hand to be included in the project, says Michelle Burger, project organiser at Helping Hand.

The majority of nursery schools who are part of this project do not receive a state subsidy of any kind and have to feed the children out of their own, limited funds. In cases where schools do receive a state subsidy, it is not enough to enable them to provide proper nutrition to the children. Burger says the period for applications has been extended until 8 August to give nursery schools the opportunity to join the project.

Schools are evaluated according to specifi c criteria and have to meet certain requirements such as being registered with the Department of Social Development, according to

Burger. Nursery schools who want to apply for inclusion in the Lunchbox Project can download the application form on Helping Hands website at www.helpendehand.co.za.

Helping Hand will, in the meantime, provide food and training at the nursery schools that have already been approved. Helping Hand provides non-perishable products to nursery schools to ensure that the children get at least one cooked meal a day. For many of the children this meal is their only meal for the day, says Burger.

Thanks to partners and food suppliers that use every rand optimally, Helping Hand can feed a preschool child for R5 a day. We originally estimated that well need about 320 000 meals in order to feed the toddlers up to the end of their school year. It now seems that the number of meals will be a lot higher, says Burger.

We appeal to the public to contribute to the project by sending the word bord to 36930 at R5 per SMS, thereby sponsoring a meal for a hungry preschooler. The more meals are sponsored, the more tummies can be fi lled.

Leandri represent South-Africa on Internati onal level at the fi nal event of the Litt le Miss and Mister World 2014, competi ng against 11 other countries. Semi-finals forpageant

NICO de Jager will be hosting an Gospel evening of light entertainment, a fund raiser for the benefi t of Tzaneen Care Group.

There will be entertainment from local artists, refreshments and a cash bar.

Die komitee, wat net uit dames bestaan, met Anneri Vorster as voorsitter, werk reeds hard om hierdie dag weer n groot sukses te maak.

Die doel van die mark is om mense en spesifi ek kinders in nood fi nansieel by te staan.

Die afgelope twee jaar se volledige wins het net hiervoor gegaan.

Op die manier word daar n verskil gemaak in die direkte omgewing, Letsitele en Tzaneen.

Dis lekker om te weet daar word vir iets gewerk wat n verskil in n kind se lewe kan maak.

Die Kerskuiermark is nie n gewone skoustalletjie of vlooimark nie, dit is iets besonders.

Elke uitstaller word vooraf gekeur en en op die manier word seker gemaak dat eksklusiewe produkte te koop is vit almal, vrouens, mans, kinders, oud en jonk.

Heleen de Kock hanteer die kerk se engelfabriek en die vrouens in die gemeente is reeds besig om die mooiste handgemaakte produkte en lekkernye

voor te berei.Vanjaar se tema is somerkersfees

en die komitee is baie opgewonde hieroor. Karen van Rooyen help maak alles mooi . Daar gaan weer n teetuin wees met sout en soet hulle bekende dadelkoek en sjokoladekoek asook heerlike souttert en nog meer.

Irma van Rooyen en Marie Muller beplan reeds aan die middagete wat misgeloop moet word nie.

Die aandete vanjaar gaan deur Marleen Minnaar en haar span hanteer word, die mans kan ook uitsien hierna want dis iets lekkers wat van die vleisbraaivuur af kom. Die aand sal daar ook ligte live musiek wees.

Een van die gewilde items tydens die kerskuiermark is die meester sjef kompetisie wat vanjaar weer plaasvind. Hierby is daar ook n junior meester sjef kompetisie.

Dit is baie pret en die mense moet asb gaan kyk!

Vir die mammas met kleiner kinders, Anel sal sorg dat daar kindervermaak is. Die kerskuiermark is Vrydag tussen 09:00 en 21:00 oop en Saterdag tussen 09:00 en 15:00.

MINAS Art Caf & Farm Venue presents One and One Makes Three.

Pops Mohamed and Dave Reynolds, two highly acclaimed, incredibly talented jazz and traditional musicians, will be performing at Minas on Cheerio Road, Heanertsburg, on July 27.

Mohamed, from Johannesburg, is said by many to be South Africas minister of music.

He is profi cient in many instruments ranging from guitar to didgeridoo and strives to preserve traditional music by blending it with modern sounds to appeal to a wider audience. He has worked with the likes of Bruce Cassidy, Zena Edwards and the London Sound Collective. Reynolds, from Cape Town, is a composer, steelpan player,

independent producer and per-former.He produced the SAMA nominated

album, Beyond, a posthumous col-lection of Gito Ba-loyis previously un-released recordings, some of which he co-wrote.The concert begins at 14:00. Sunday lunch can be bought beforehand.

Delicious shawarmas with a variety of fi llings and a selection of craft beer will be served. Big log fi res will ward off the winter chill. Lunch will be available from 12:00.

Tickets cost R100 when pre-booked or R120 at the door, R60 for scholars. Shawarmas charged at R60 a shawarma.

AN AGRICULTURAL Expo will be held in Tzaneen from August 26 to 28.

This was announced after a meeting of a variety of role players at the municipal chambers on Tuesday.

The meeting was organized jointly by Mokgadi Nkoana of the Local Economic Development Department of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality and Moshate Media, an events and public relations company from Gauteng.

The meeting was also attended by Agri Letaba, the Tzaneen Chamber of Commerce and GTEDA (Greater Tzaneen Economic Development Agency). The meeting was chaired by Kwena Maphoto, the CEO of Gteda. The Agri Expo will be held at the show grounds and is primarily aimed at emerging farmers.

A similar Agri Expo for Limpopo was held at the Polokwane show grounds last year, but the organizers felt Tzaneen was a better option in all respects.

The Tzaneen show grounds is a more suitable venue, there are many more farmers in this

region and this area is a prime agricultural region. In their presentation Moshate Media indicated that 2 000 emerging farmers from all over Limpopo will attend the event.

It will also consist of an indoor expo, an outdoor expo, workshops, an Agribizniz Summit and an Agri Youth Indaba. Plans for a gala dinner are also afoot.

According to Mahlatse Masimini, the MD of Moshate Media, event partners such as the National and Provincial Departments of Agriculture, commercial banks and other sponsors are already on board and planning for the event is already well under way.

The fi nal stage was the approval of the Tzaneen Municipality, who will be a major partner, who organized the meeting to get the approval and support of other role players before confi rming their commitment.

It was emphasized at the meeting that the Limpopo Agri Expo will not be in opposition to the annual Letaba Show (which will be held from August 7 to 9) but rather a complimentary event.

Daar is ongeloofl ike groot nood in die gemeenskap en die SAVF voorsien sowat 70 gesinne van die nodigste lewensmiddele.

Hulle pak dus 70 pakkies per maand en deur die maand kom daar nog versoeke vir n kospakkie. Die doel van die projek is om gesinne in nood elke maand met n kospakkie te kan voorsien. Daar word 70 persone benodig wat elke maand bereid is om so n kospakkie aan te koop teen ongeveer R270.

Twee vriendinne kan dit saam doen indien hul dit so wil hanteer.

Die SAVF voorsien die sak met n lysie van die spesifi eke benodighede wat benodig word, wat dan voor die 15de van die maand by die SAVF kantoor te Agathastraat no 1 ingehandig moet word.

Indien die persoon later wil ophou kan hy/sy die SAVF net laat weet of iemand anders in sy plek kry om voort te gaan.

Dit is egter baie belangrik dat die sak elke maand moet terug kom anders is daar nie vir almal n kospakkie nie. Sodra die persoon sy pakkie inhandig, gee die SAVF weer n sakkie vir die volgende maand se kos.

Indien enigiemand kan help met enige baba, kinder-, mans- of damesklere, is u welkom om dit in die houer by Van Heerdens apteek te plaas. Die klere sal gereeld afgehaal word om versprei te word onder diegene met nood.

VRIENDELIKE kompetisie tussen maatskappye is verlede week na n heel ander vlak geneem.

Ferreira, Venter, Laws en Nel, Die Ouditeure, en Smith Garrun, Die Makelaars, het mekaar die stryd aanges tydens n span-vergadering vir hierdie jaar se CANSA Relay for Life. Die uitdaging? Om te kyk watter kantoor kon Vrydag die meeste eenhede bloed skenk. En omdat elke persoon slegs een eenheid kan skenk, was die groot uitdaging dus om genoeg mense te werf. Slegs werkenemers van die betrokke fi rmas se eenheid is ingereken.

Die Ouditeure het vroeg in die dag al n paar terugslae beleef met bykans hul hele eerste groep wat weggewys word. Die Makelaars het in hul hordes opgedaag en vinnig voortou begin neem. Met n agterstand van 15-6 het dinge vir die Ouditeure se span maar bleek gelyk. Die Makelaars het begin gereed maak om hul oorwinning te vier...

Net toe dit lyk of alles verby is, verskyn daar n Tonny op die horison, en hy word agtervolg deur nog skenkers vir die Ouditeure. Inderhaas begin die Smith Garrun kantoor toe bel en probeer mooi praat om nog skenkers te kry, die Ouditeure begin mos nou inhaal!

Die Ouditeure het moedig terugbaklei maar moes op die ou einde die knie buig met n telling van 11-23 in die Makelaars se guns.

Beide spanne bedank graag die personeel by die Bloedbank en almal wat tyd gemaak het om te kom skenk, asook Sugarhill vir hul skenking van koeldrank en koekies om elke skenker op hul voete te hou.

Bloed vloei vir kanker

EERSTE AN DIE BEURT: Melanie Steyn is eerste met n eenheid bloed vir die Ouditeure se span.

KOMMITEE: Istelle Pieterse, wat ook op vanjaar se CANSA Relay for Life kommitee is, skenk haar eenheid vir die Makelaars.

ELKE EENHEID TEL: Corn van Schalkwyk skenk haar eenheid bloed vir die Makelaars se span tydens Smith Garrun en Ferreira, Venter, Laws en Nel se CANSA-uitdaging.

EENVOUDIG: Nicolene Fritz skenk bloed vir die Makelaars.

MY BEURT: Carina Gouws maak gereed om bloed te skenk vir die Ouditeure se span.

KOMIESE VERLIGTING: Jan Coetzee, vir die Makelaars, het gesorg vir n paar ligte oomblikke tydens Vrydag se CANSA-uitdaging.

VLOEI: Greg Butler Skenk bloed vir die Makelaars se span tydens Vrydag se CANSA-uitdaging.

MAKLIK: Melissa Venter skenk bloed as deel van die Makelaars se span Vrydag. Die Makelaars het die Ouditeure gemaklik geklop.

MAKELAAR: Jolene van der Schyff skenk bloed tydens Vrydag se CANSA-uitdaging.

HART IN DIE HAND: Johan Venter laat sy bloed vloei vir die Makelaars se span tydens Vrydag se CANSA-uitdaging.

GEEN PROBLEME HIER: Victor van Wyk, n Makelaar, skenk sy eenheid bloed vir Vrydag se CANSA-uitdaging.

WAG: Wendy Strydom wag haar beurt af om bloed te skenk vir die Ouditeure se span.

VRYDAG was Mandeladag, of-te wel n dag om 67 minute te spandeer om iets vir die gemeenskap te doen ter

Sy nagedagtenis in bloednagedagtenis aan Nelson Mandela.

Die Tzaneen Skenkerssentrum is oorval deur mense wat hom met bloed wou eer.

Tesame met die skenkers vir Ferreira, Venter, Laws & Nel en Smith Garrun se uitdaging, is 40 eenhede bloed geskenk.

Dit is n reuse verbetering op die gemiddelde twee of drie skenkings wat normaalweg per dag gemaak word. Een eenheid bloed kan tot en met drie lewens red aangesien elke eenheid ver-deel word in rooi bloedselle, plasma en plaatjies.

Om een eenheid, oftewel 480ml bloed, te skenk, neem slegs n paar minute maar dit sal verseker n verskil maak in iemand se lewe.

VOLLE SIRKEL: Luzaan du Toit het as baba, 28 jaar gelede, n bloedoortapping ondergaan. Deesdae is sy n gereelde skenker.

REGULAR: Rhulani Mashele, a regular donor, started dona ng blood in 2010.

SEE THE NEED: Kaizer Ngoveni, a paramedic, donated blood at the Tzaneen Donor Centre on Friday.

OLD TIMER: Timothy Nkuna has donated 26 units of blood and has completed the Comrades Marathon 13 mes.

THE branch of National Union of Mineworkers announces its plans to award bursaries to previous (retired, medically separated, deceased) and current Palabora Copper employees as well as their recognized dependents.

This bursary scheme was made possible by the bounteous donation from Rio Tinto and Anglo American, the preceding shareholders of Palabora Copper. The trust fund has been established through JB Marks Educational Trust Fund on behalf of NUM to manage this bursary scheme.

The bursary will cover any fi eld of study at a registered South African University, University of Technology as well as FET College, undertaken on part time or full time

basis. National Union of Mineworkers will

endeavor to ensure that all eligible benefi ciaries are given equivalent opportunities when applying for these bursaries.

This is the legacy that should be carried through the years by those that will have the fortuity to partake in this bursary scheme, refl ected Oupa Magagula, NUM Full Time Shop Steward.

The bursary applications are now open and will close on Friday, 1 August 2014, which will be followed by the selection process in preparation for the fi rst intake in January 2015.

However, applicants will be required to proof dependency to the previous or current

Palabora Copper employees in order to be considered for the bursary.

This liberal opportunity for mine workers together with their dependents to further their studies truly echoes words once said by the great Nelson Mandela, education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, and that a child of a farm worker can become the president of a great nation.

It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.
