Academic Road Map

• Strength of course selection• Grades• Start in middle school

Think of this as a yearly check-up.

It is not our “minimum” requirements for admission, but it is what we recommend if students want to be sure they are preparing themselves well for college.

Recommended Curriculum

• A balanced selection of courses that provides breadth and challenge:– English– Mathematics– Laboratory Science– Foreign Language– History/Social Studies

Good Grades, Good Senior Year

• 20 academic units, including 5 units during the senior year (a unit = a full year of work in an academic subject).

• A B+ average and no grade below a B-.• At least two Honors or AP courses.

Financial Commitment• UD will meet every Delawarean’s full demonstrated

financial need up to the cost of in-state tuition, fees, a stipend for books, and (for students living on-campus) room and board with a combination of grants, loans and/or college work-study so long as they file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (“FAFSA”).

Our goal is that no Delawarean will have loans in excess of 25% of the cost of a four-year education.

Early Notification for DE Residents

• Delaware residents whose applications are complete and who meet all the requirements of the UD Commitment to Delawareans will be notified of their admission on a rolling basis starting January 1 and continuing throughout the winter.

Early Notification• Students will still have until May 1 to accept or decline

their offers of admission.• Students must fully complete an application for

admission before we will act on it.– Official transcripts– Officially reported SAT or ACT scores– Admissions essays and a letter of recommendation

• Students must maintain their good course selection, grades and conduct through their senior year.

Summary

The UD Commitment to Delawareans road map is the ideal, not the minimum. Students who have not precisely followed the road map but who have strong grades in high-level academic course work can still earn admission to the University of Delaware and should apply.
