PURPOSE

LMC Education Grants provide financial support to LMC credentialed and emerging leaders for approved leadership education and training. There are four grants available to LMC leaders: Leadership Education Grant, Urban Education Grant, Women’s Education Grant, STEP Study Award. The criteria for each follows:

Grant Criter ia

Applicants must meet all the criteria for any grant to which they apply. Leadership Education Grant (LEG) 1. Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a grant: a. Leader or emerging leader of an LMC

congregation.

b. Written recommendation from a pastor, bishop/ overseer, mentor, or other congregational leader including information about how your congregation will support you in this endeavor.

2. Preference will be given when reviewing applications for:

a. Congregational commitment to support a part of the leader’s educational cost.

b. LMC connected or associated educational resources.

Urban Education Grant (UEG) 1. Fund recipients must be members of an LMC

congregation. In the case of a child, the

parents must be LMC members. 2. Applicants must be persons/students of

color and/or from a urban ministry

setting.

Appl ication process

1. Obtain the Consolidated Application for LMC Education Grants at https://lmcchurches.org/resources/downloadable-resources/ and select Finances and Grants.

2. Complete all applicable parts of the application, including the appropriate essay on the back of the application form. Make sure your reference letters are forwarded to the LMC office. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

3. Submit applications to the Conference office by July 15 for fall awards and January 31 for Spring awards.

4. Applications will be reviewed and grants awarded by the LMC Granting Committee. Only the Leadership Education Grant has a Spring cycle. The Committee will look at the following: - available funds and number of applicants - congregational assistance - courses supporting Anabaptist Theology

- applicability to ministry in LMC - references and recommendations 5. Since requests typically exceed available funds the

LMC Grant Committee will be fair and impartial. 6. Notification of award or non-award of a grant will

be given by email. 7. Grant money will be sent to the institution/agency

on behalf of the recipient. Awards will not be sent to the applicant directly.

8. Grant money may only be used for the purpose requested. If plans change after funds are distributed, the grant must be returned to LMC.

LMC Education Grants

STEP Study Award (SSA) 1. Fund recipients must be members of an LMC

congregation.

2. Applicants must be formally enrolled in STEP to

receive funds.

Women’s Education Grant (WEG) 1. Fund recipients must be female members of an LMC

congregation and recommended as a leader or emerging leader.

2. Each year, the Women’s Education Fund will award grants to female students who are enrolled in STEP, seminary, or other ministry training programs. Funds must be used to pay for tuition.

3. Women’s Education Grant funds may also be used to support women’s training events.

Expectations of Recip ients

1. Acknowledge LMC Grant Education funding in the

local congregation, verbally, or in a bulletin

announcement.

2. Report the grade of the previous class on any

future application.

GIFTS to the Fund

Individuals or congregations may contribute directly to

the Leadership Endowment Fund or the STEP Study

Award. Donations to the fund should be sent to the

attention of Education Grants at LMC, 2160 Lincoln

Hwy E, Lancaster, PA 17602. If you want your gift to go

to a specific grant, clearly note which fund should

receive the gift.
