Kuhn a versatile threat Senior WR/DB Garrett Kuhn has made a big impact in

all three phases of the game, and that was evident in the 54-0 Senior Night win over Delta, when he caught a 25-yard TD pass, and followed with a 25-yard INT return and a 49-yard punt return for a TD. Kuhn has four receiving TDs in seven games. In addition to his INT and punt return, he also had a 90-yard kickoff return for a score against Shelbyville, the Dragons’ first KOR for a TD since 2011.

Kuhn also leads the team with five interceptions.

3-for-3-for-6 Junior QB Alex Neligh had a perfect start to the

game against Yorktown. His first three pass attempts went for touchdowns -- a 65-yarder to Noah Grable, a 28-yarder to Garrett Kuhn and a 25-yarder to Duke Blackwell. They gave NP a 21-0 lead just 5:30 into an eventual 48-13 victory.

Friday, November 7: Dragons (11-0)at Beech Grove (7-4)

Neligh’s touchdown streak alive Junior QB Alex Neligh had just one completion (on 4

attempts) in the Week 6 win over Greenfield-Central, but it kept alive his streak of six games with a touchdown pass. Neligh hit Duke Blackwell for a 75-yard TD pass on third-and-24 in the third quarter of a 63-0 win. He has extended the streak in each game since.

Neligh a run-pass threat Junior Alex Neligh becomes the Dragons’ starting

quarterback this season. He equaled a rare feat by tallying 207 passing yards and 110 rushing yards in the sectional opener. 2013 senior Blake Luker hit the 100/100 milestone several times a year ago. Neligh had his first 200-yard passing game with 229 yards on 14-of-24 passing against Richmond. That game featured several explosive plays -- a 45-yard pass to Duke Blackwell, a 41-yard pass to Noah Grable, and a 30-yard pass to Logan Greene. ALEX NELIGH’S TOP PASSING GAMES 223: 8/29/14 at Richmond (14-of-24, 1 TD, W 42-6) 207: 10/24/14 at Muncie Central (9-of-13, 3 TD, W 61-7) 204: 9/12/14 at Mt. Vernon (15-of-21, 2 TD, W 31-3) 202: 9/19/14 at Pendleton Heights (8-of-12, 3 TD, W 56-7)

Young’s centuries Senior running back James Young hit the millenium

mark a year ago, rushing for 1,250 yards in 2013. It was the largest total for a New Palestine back since Eric Alcorn ran for 1,629 yards in 2005. Young needs 26 yards for his second 1,000-yard season. The last Dragon to have two such seasons was Chris Grider in 2002-03.

Young topped the 100-yard mark five times in the last six games last season, and six times overall in 2013. His 266-yard game against Pendleton Heights in the sectional was the most since Nick Survant ran for 236 on Oct. 5, 2012. Young continued his run with two three-TD games in the season openers, then a 166-yard, 31-carry effort against Yorktown in Week 3. He now has 10 100-yard games, including four this season. He eclipsed the 100-yard mark in three of the Dragons’ four HHC games this year.

James Young’s 100-yard rushing games (10, 4 this season)

266 yards, 10/25/13 at Pendleton Heights (29 carries) 187 yards, 11/1/13 at Muncie South (25 carries) 166 yards, 9/5/14 vs. Yorktown (31 carries) 159 yards, 9/6/13 vs. Pendleton Heights (24 carries) 153 yards, 11/15/13 vs. Chatard (14 carries) 151 yards, 9/19/14 at Pendleton Heights (23 carries) 120 yards, 10/24/14 at Muncie Central (20 carries) 120 yards, 11/8/13 vs. Mt. Vernon (26 carries) 110 yards, 10/11/13 at Greenfield-Central (11 carries) 103 yards, 9/26/14 vs. Greenfield-Central (12 carries)

The closer Senior RB James Young has been the Dragons’

closer. In the Weeks 5 and 6, he has crossed the goal line four times in each game, with runs of 1, 1, 1 and 67 against Pendleton Heights Sept. 19, and TD runs of 10, 13, 34 and 5 yards against Greenfield-Central Sept. 26. Through the first six weeks of the 2014 season, he has four games with at least three TDs, scoring three each in the first two games. He has 24 TDs for the year.

Grable finds end zone twice Senior Noah Grable has found the end zone many

different ways this season. He had three TDs the traditional route -- via receptions from his tight end position -- in the year’s first five weeks. But in the Week 6 win over Greenfield-Central, Grable got there on defense. The linebacker inte- cepted a pass and ran it back 78 yards to give the Dragons a 21-0 lead in the second quarter. Later in the period, he scooped up a fumble caused by Nick Brickens and ran it into the end zone from 6 yards out. They were the Dragons’ first defensive scores since Week 8 of the 2013 season.

High-scoring streak New Palestine broke a school record with 40 points

in five straight games – and achieved at least 50 points in six straight games, from Weeks 5-10.

About Kelso Stadium/Shepler Field The Dragons’ home turf Is named for two New

Palestine luminaries. Kelso Stadium was dedicated in honor of former NPHS principal Robert Kelso shortly after he passed away in 1983. The playing field itself is Shepler Field – named for NPHS teacher and Hall of Fame football coach Marvin Shepler. The only coach in Dragons history for the program’s first 34 years, Shepler led New Palestine to three sectional titles, three undefeated regular seasons and the 1990 State Finals.

Meet Coach Ralph Second-year NPHS head coach Kyle Ralph is the fifth

head coach in NPHS history, and the third to lead the Dragons to an undefeated regular season, joining Marvin Shepler and Tim Able. He is the first to win his first 13 games as a Dragons head coach.

Coach Ralph is a 2002 graduate of Cincinnati St. Xavier High School, where he was a standout offensive lineman. He played collegiately at the University of North Carolina for head coach John Bunting, where he was a two-time First Team All-ACC performer. In 2005, his senior season, he was the ACC’s Coastal Division Offensive Lineman of the Year. He has also participated in NFL training camps with the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. He began his coaching career at St. Xavier in 2007, then became the co-offensive coordinator at Oak Hills High School near Cincinnati in 2008. He served there for three seasons, before becoming the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Withrow University High School in Cincinnati in 2011 and 2012.

At Withrow, Ralph’s team averaged 34.4 points and 335 total yards per game in 2012. In two years there, his teams went 14-6 overall. At Oak Hills, his 2010 offense broke or tied five school rushing records.

His first New Palestine team rewrote the school record book, averaging more than 40 points per game and gaining 6,230 yards. Under his tutelage, the team produced its career and single-season total offense (Blake Luker) and receiving (Tyler Walden) leaders. In 2013, Luker, Walden and James Young became the first trio in NP history to give the team a 2,000-yard passer and a 1,000 yard rusher and receiver in the same season.

Coach Ralph also has seven seasons of experience coaching track and field. He teaches world history and advanced PE at NPHS.
