From the Editor's Desk

"W e need to give priority to our needs over our w ants by giving a radical shift to our life style".

As the new issue of Commerce Echoes is born, with immense pleasure to share with you some of the

important and land mark events that the Department of Commerce had crossed and programmed in the last Academic

year. We gratefully look back with satisfaction all those who have contributed for our news letter. I also thank all the

hearts that bountifully appreciated and congratulated us on coming out with Commerce Echoes - Issue -No.1.

I strongly believe that education is an effective medium for social transformation and empowerment of the

underprivileged. The vision and mission of our Department is to take greater efforts for the betterment of the

present academic scenario and keeping this in view, we are working for the changing needs of the young commerce

minds who are the future Entrepreneurs and professionals.

My special appreciation to the sub editor's Miss. S. Meenakshi & Miss. B. Sudha for their creativity in

designing this wonderful Commerce Echoes.

I appreciate the endeavour of my students and staff for making tremendous progress on reaching the goal of

our Busy Bee Association.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The UG department of Commerce was established in the founding year itself and upgraded as PG department in

2005. The department upgraded as a Research Department in 2011 and offers B.Com,B.Com (CA),M.Com, M.Phil,

programmes in commerce. We have 16 eminent and efficient faculty members and enthusiastic students. It's a

drastic achievement of our department in producing a gold medallist in B.Com and seven university rank holders

which adds laurel to our esteemed institution. The department aims at overall development of the students by

involving them in seminars , cultural events and guest lectures by experts.

STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS

• On 22nd September 2012, Dr. Sr. Cathelina, Head, Department of Commerce acted as a Co-Chair person in the Technical Session in the International conference on Business Innovations in the Globalization Era and also published a paper in journal SANKHYA on “A study on movement of capital Across National Frontiers and Impact of FDI” conducted by Department of commerce at A.V.V.M Sri pushpam College, Poondi.

• On 5th October 2012, Dr. Sr. Cathelina, Head, Department of commerce participated in the one day workshop on Faculty Development programme on "Psychological Dynamics in Class Rooms" organized by Gnanam school of Business, Thanjavur.

• On 9th October 2012, Dr. Sr. Cathelina, participated in one day National Level Conference on “Innovations in Management Technology & Science” organized by Prist University, Thanjavur.

• On January 2012, Mrs.A.N.Christy , presented and published a paper on “Innovative Management Strategies for Emerging Business Paradigms” in the International Conference conducted by Adaikalamatha College, Thanjavur.

• On 15th & 16th March 2013, Mrs. K. Nithya Devi, Ms. S. Meenakshi, participated in Two days State Level Workshop on "Research in Commerce and Management Studies", organized by Bharathidasan University- Perambalur.

• On 3rd March 2012, Ms. F .Nancy Dayalin Bridgeta published a paper on “Qualities of Leader" in a National Level Seminar at National College, Trichy.

• On 2nd & 3rd March 2012, Ms. S. Meenakshi presented and published a paper in "Recent Ideas on Making 360 degree Appraisals- An effective performance evaluation tools" conducted by Department of Social work at Bon Secours College For Women, Thanjavur.

• From 6th to 12th February 2013, Ms. K. Radha attended a Training programme on National Service Scheme Empanelled Training Institutions at Madras School of Social Work, Chennai.

• From 1st to 15th February 2013, Mrs.K.Punitha Devi attended a Faculty Development Programme, organized by St. Joseph's College, Trichy.

• On 22nd September 2012, 47 UG and PG Students participated and presented papers in an International Conference on "Business Innovations on Globalisation Era" conducted by A.V.V.M Sri Puspham College, Poondi.

• On 5th October 2012, 30 PG Students presented papers, in a National Level Seminar on "Innovations In Management Technology & Science" organised by Prist School Of Business, Thanjavur.

• On 20th October 2012, 15 Final Year Students participated in G-MAD Training at Gnanam School of Business, Thanjavur.

• On 3rd &4th November 2012, 26 PG Students participated in a National Level workshop on "Publishing Research Articles in Business Management" at Bharathidasan University, Trichy.

• On 22nd Feburary 2013, Ms. A. Thendral & Ms.R.Keerthana participated in “SUDHANA

2013 ”and won the First Prize and cash award of Rs.2000/-, in Business Quiz conducted by Karpaga Vinayaga Institute Of Management.

• On 25th Feburary 2013, Ms.K.Keerthana, Ms.M.N.Shabana,Ms.K. Kunguma Pabitha, Ms. G. Divya, Ms.A.Sameena Taj participated in “COMCARNIVAL-2013” and won the First Prize in Product Launch at St.Joseph’s college, Trichy.

Keep Looking Fresh and Young All of us want to attract others. For that reason we

want ourselves to look fresh always. Of course, we can use

different types of cosmetics to make ourselves fresh and

beautiful. But according to Psychology only the outer

personality will look fresh by using costly cosmetics and

will last for few seconds/minutes/hours, then how can we

be fresh always? here's the answer given by Psychologists

for this question, by asking us to check our inner

personality, where there is long standing for our

freshness. What is the cosmetic that our inner personality

looks for? Yes,

The only best and cheap cosmetic is "Happiness".

To be Fresh and Young we have to create happiness within

ourselves. For that, without forgetting we have to put a

question in front of our eyes

"Will I ever be happy?

Will I ever be satisfied?

When? And

Where do I look to find happiness?"

The Bible shows us the way to find happiness by giving us a

promise and also helps us to get correct and meaningful

clarity of the concept "Happiness".

"Blessed" this beautiful word literally means "Happy".

Material gains will not bring happiness. People who search

for happiness in terms of money, real estates, possessions

or investment portfolios are always in for a rude

awakening. All the money in the world will not buy

happiness.

Happiness - the deep inner strength

Happiness - the courage to hang on

Happiness - the faith

Happiness - the hope

Happiness - the quiet sense of self-esteem

Happiness - the assurance

Happiness - the beautiful belief

So, whether you are winning or losing, succeeding or

failing, enthusiastic or depressed, happy or suffering,

you can be happy if you will discover the best Be- Happy

Attitudes.

Let us test with Four "R".

^ Riches?...........It will take more than money.

^ Recognition?..............Fame is fleeting!

^ Relationships?.....Even those who love you will sometimes let

you down.

^ Recreation?............They create habits that spell nothing but

trouble!

Yes Dear Friends,

Man can be born again!

Character can be changed!

You can become a new person!

Life can be beautiful!

Of course, you can be Young always

When you are ready to say,

I'm going to be happy today!

Yes, "Happy Attitudes are more important than facts!"

If you practise this, you can be Fresh and Young.
