Community Breakfast What a great turnout for our Community Breakfast last Wednesday morning!! The early rise and shine was well worth the egg and bacon sandwich on offer at school. This was a great opportunity to chat with staff and students in a relaxed environment. Some students enjoyed the opportunity to play handball and skip with friends, while families took the opportunity to catch up with teachers and find out about their children's learning.

Some parents got to meet new friends that their children have made. Thank you to Mr Macdonald and staff for making this a friendly event.

Early Action For Success — Kindergarten - Year 2 Mrs Kim Attenborough, our Instructional Leader, has been providing ongoing professional learning for staff in the K-2 area around developing balanced Literacy and Numeracy sessions. This is underpinned by a program called L3 where activities are organised to build independent learning skills in the early years. This is supported by opportunities for students to build important reading and writing skills through teacher planning and explicit teaching. We were privileged to host a visit from Jan Farmer-Hailey, the program's Literacy coordinator from Sydney, to discuss the success of the program and to visit classrooms to see the students in action. Ms Farmer-Hailey was very impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of our K-2 staff in implementing the L3 program, and the independent nature of our students in these early years.

External University Competitions Mr Parker is in the process of contacting students and their parents about voluntary participation in the ICASS competitions. The school will subsidise students who wish to participate in these external competitions, by paying for half of the entry fees. These external assessment activities are a great opportunity to perform against other students across Australia. Students may choose which Curriculum areas to participate in: Computers, Writing, Maths, English, Science and Spelling. Take up the challenge!

Macksville High School Performance for our Stage 1 Classes Every year our Kinders, Year 1 and Year 2 students walk to Macksville High School to be entertained by the Drama students. The children will be thoroughly entertained by a variety of comedy sketches with puppets and clowns that provide clear and responsible messages around bullying and safety through a fun and engaging way. Our students will walk to the High School next Friday, 20th March for a 10.00am start. The performance is at NO COST to the students.

Swan's Indigenous Talent Search Thirteen MPS Aboriginal students travelled to Coffs Harbour to participate in a workshop with Sydney Swans players, providing an opportunity to identify students who

demonstrate potential on the sporting field. Thank you to RJ Donovan, Ritchie Donovan and Mr Manson for accompanying the boys and providing this great opportunity to display their skills and meet some high profile players. It was also a great opportunity for a couple of memorable selfies! Is that you, Mr Manson?

Transition of Year 6 to Year 7 This is now the time for parents of Year 6 students to decide where they will be continuing the next phase of their secondary education. An expression of interest has been given out to year 6 students to identify their High School for Year 7 in 2016. It is very important to complete the expression of interest and return it to our school office, by March 20th.

Out And About At Macksville Public School

Proud to be a part of the Family School

You want to clone yourself? Now wouldn’t that be just like you!

Cyberbullying

One of the great things about being online is the ability to share videos and photos with your friends and seeing their response.

Everything you post online combines to make your digital footprint.

Remember that what you share with your friends may also be viewed by people you don’t know. Once it’s online, it could be there forever. So think before you post.

You can manage your digital footprint by:

Keeping your personal details private. Use a nickname instead of your real name and always ask your parents before giving out your name, address or phone number online.

Not sharing your username or password with anyone.

Thinking before you post. Once posted, it can be difficult to remove.

Not posting things that you don't want others to know about or that you wouldn’t say to their face.

Being respectful of other people’s content that you post or share. For example, a photo that your friend took is their property, not yours. You should post it online only if you have their permission.

Master Chefs of 4M

It was 4M’s turn to cook up a storm last week in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. Delights and delicious smells soon followed as they made Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls with a dipping sauce. Great job 4M! If you would like to volunteer in the kitchen on Wednesdays from 11.15am-1.30pm, we would love to hear from you. Please phone Mrs Lynch at the school on 6568 1800.

Easter Hat Parade and Monster Easter Raffle

The competition is on! Who can bring in the most Easter Eggs for our monster Easter raffle. Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are winning the battle at this stage however our primary students are being spurred on by the thought of Mr Parker in a pink Easter bonnet with sparkles. Make sure you get your donations of Easter eggs in to be part of the fun. You need to be in it to win it! Raffle tickets are on sale now. Children also need to start thinking about their Easter hat for our wonderful Easter Hat Parade around the school and down town. Looking forward to all our pre-schoolers and toddlers joining in on the fun.
