Fri 1 March - Thursday 4 April

Dear Film Fans

With the award season giving us some superb performances to watch, and some fantastic fun films joining us this March, Buxton Cinema really is the place to be.

Both Melissa McCarthy and Richard E Grant have been recently nominated for an Oscar for their roles in the biographical film Can You Ever Forgive Me? Writer and biographer Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy) finds herself falling on hard times as her books have dropped out of fashion. Turning her writing to deception, she begins forging letters from deceased authors and playwrights assisted by her loyal accomplice Jack (Richard E Grant). Can You Ever Forgive Me? has gained massive praise from the critics, with outstanding performances from McCarthy and Grant making this film un-missable.

The fourth film in the Lego Movie franchise LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part follows on from the 2014 film. The heroes of Bricksburg reunite in a new adventure to try and save their city. Five years ago everything was great, but now the citizens are facing a new threat, LEGO DUPLO invaders from space. In the battle to restore order to the LEGO universe our heroes find themselves travelling to faraway worlds, testing their courage and skills in this fun film for all ages.

Another film bound to appeal to our younger cinema goers is The Kid Who Would Be King. Based on the Arthurian legend, Alex a young schoolkid who believes he is just another nobody, finds his world turned upside down when he stumbles across the mythical sword in the stone, Excalibur. Alex must unite with both his friends and enemies as they take on the enchantress Morgana with a little help from the wizard Merlin played by the acting legend Sir Patrick Stewart.

Fans of the Bard can discover the final days of Shakespeare's life in All is True. When the Globe Theatre burns to the ground, the great playwright finds himself back in his home of Stratford upon Avon. Devastated and faced with the ghosts of his past, Shakespeare struggles to mend the broken relationships within his family. With an absolutely stellar cast of Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench and Ian McKellen this gentle film re-imagines the renowned writers final months.

The Aftermath (15) 2hrs

In a remarkable physical transformation, Christian Bale plays Dick Cheney in this satirical biopic. The official version of the vice president’s role in promoting everything from torture to extraordinary rendition post 9/11 contrasts with director Adam McKay’s take. The film portrays him as a ‘Godfather’ character – a loving and caring father but ruthless self-interested manipulator who controlled a weak and buffoonish George W Bush.

In 1946 Rachael Morgan arrives in the ruins of Hamburg to be reunited with her husband, Lewis, who is a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. As they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an unexpected decision: They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.
