What kinds of problems do you think you would have if you had no money?

If people have no money in your country, who can they ask for help?

How can helping people be fun?

Pre-readingAll around the world, there are people who are poor, sick and hungry. Sometimes it seems we can do nothing to help. But on Christmas Day in 1985, some famous comedians in Britain got together and decided to do something about it. They thought that if they could make people laugh, they could ask those people for money to help. They started a charity called Comic Relief. Since 1985, Comic Relief has raised more than 600 million!

Misunderstandings

There are many ways that comedians and other famous people raise money for Comic Relief. Each year the comedians record a funny pop song with pop stars like Robbie Williams. In 2003, J. K. Rowling wrote two special Harry Potter books. All the money from the songs and the books goes to Comic Relief. There is also a Red Nose Day each year. On Red Nose Day, many people wear a red nose, like a clown! People also ask their friends to sponsor them to do funny things like shaving their heads or telling jokes.

Misunderstandings

Comic Relief helps a lot of people with the money it raises. In Britain, it gives money to children who have to live on the streets and to refugees who have just arrived in the country. It also gives money to old people who dont have families to look after them. Around the world, Comic Relief helps millions of poor, sick and hungry people.

Misunderstandings

Thanks to Comic Relief, helping other people can be fun!
