‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street

Good Morning & Welcome to Thursday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated 22nd of

November 2018.

Early action at SGX Nifty is indicating that Nifty will claw back from its last two sessions

losses! Pretty neat early set-up for the bulls camp to recoup recent steep losses!!

The big question: Will Nifty finish up for the day?

Honestly speaking, it is difficult to say if Nifty will make a sizeable comeback.

Agreed, the benchmark Nifty may reverse its past two days’ painful losses, helped by a

slight positive overnight Wall Street close. But our call of the day suggests that Nifty will

struggle to recapture its 200-DMA at 10,761 mark. We say so because haunting investors

in near term would be:

1. FIIs still in exit mode.

2. The ongoing bout of weakness in Crude oil prices are seen as early signs

of global slowdown.

3. Uncertainty surrounding U.S China trade issues: This is likely to be a key

driver of volatility. In case of absent of any resolution, the street is suspecting the

U.S. tariff rates on a swath of Chinese goods could rise from 10% to 25% in January.

So, worldwide investors will gear up to the much anticipated Trump and Chinese

President Xi Jinping's scheduled G20 summit on 30 Nov - 1 December in Buenos

Aires.

4. Deteriorating technical conditions as Nifty seen unable to move past its key hurdles

at 200 DMA at 10761 mark. Confirmation of weakness below 10,489 mark.

5. Uncertainty surrounding assembly election outcome. The big investors

camp are likely to pay close attention the elections in five states which will conclude

on December 7. Counting of votes will be held across all the five states on December

11.

Please note, three states Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan are ruled by BJP

and the election outcome will be crucial.

Now for some good news. Crude-oil prices still seen sluggish in yesterday's trade after oil

sank 7% in Tuesday's trade. If you recollect, rising oil prices had concerned investors just

sometime back. Tanking oil prices could be a positive trigger for our stock markets. But

having said that, please note that the ongoing bout of weakness in Crude oil prices

are seen as early signs of global slowdown.

The other positive catalyst in favor of bulls camp is that Bank Nifty was seen

outperforming in yesterday's trade. And lastly, there is a feeling that Federal

Reserve's rate hike expectations are softening.

Bottom-line: It makes sense for the perma-bulls camp to curb their

enthusiasm on any early strength. There is a sinking feeling for Nifty. Caution should

still be the buzzword and investors' need to brace themselves for the worst-case scenario!!

Outlook for Thursday: Sell on any excessive strength.

At the time of writing, SGX Nifty futures were seen trading cautiously, up 23 points at

10,645, indicating a slight positive start for our stock markets.

Expect trading to be little volatile as the big traders will prefer to square off their positions

as Wall Street will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving Day. Also, our stock markets are

closed on Friday, 23rd of November on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

GLOBAL CUES:

Thanksgiving holiday. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite posted decent

gains, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost some ground late in the session

giving up a nearly 200 point intraday advance.

Investors will keep a close eye on retail stocks reporting earnings this week,

combined with Black Friday, which marks the unofficial start of the holiday shopping

season.

FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:

• As per Wednesday’s Provisional Data available on the NSE, FII’s sold shares worth

strategy: Establish long positions between 427-433 zone, targeting 453 mark and

then at 455-461 zone. Stop below 421.

BANK NIFTY ended on a positive note in

yesterday's trade, up 0.57% and most

importantly outperforming benchmark Nifty. We

suspect, there is further room to move up for

Bank Nifty.

On the short term charts, Bank Nifty is seen

moving on the upside from a 4- day consolidation

period. The index is seen attempting a major

upside breakout from a higher consolidation

zone on daily charts.

Technically, the momentum oscillators are

signaling a major surge. The index could move

towards its immediate hhurdles at 26800 zone.

Key support to watch in near term is at 25767

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street

MACRO WATCH:

• On the economic front, the U.S. homebuilder sentiment hit the lowest level in two years, according to the National Association of Home

Builders. The association said its index of builder confidence dropped 8 points to 60, missing analyst expectations for the key metric.

CURRENCIES & BONDS:

• The forex markets were closed yesterday. In Tuesday's trade, the rupee rose by 21 paise to end at 71.46 against the US dollar. Helping

sentiments were softening crude oil prices, and persistent foreign fund inflows. Technically, oversold conditions prevail. Buying USD/INR

advised only above 72.45.

WHAT TECHNICALS TELLS US ON NIFTY:

• Dalal Street slipped hard in Wednesday's trade, ending the session firmly in negative territory following weakness in global stock markets

and despite weakness in crude oil prices.

• Net-net, it was a tough day for our stock markets. The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was weak. However, The

BSE Mid-Cap outperformed the benchmarks as it was up 0.64%. The BSE Small-Cap index too was marginally up at 0.06%.

• Technically speaking, Intraday supports on Nifty are placed at 10551 and then at then at 10489 mark. The intraday bias shifts to neutral as

Nifty was unable to move above the make or break hurdles at 10757-10,775 zone.

• Long term supports for Nifty in near term is at 9,951 mark. The technical landscape will worsen further only if Nifty closes below the 9,951

mark as that would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly towards the 9750-9801 zone.

• The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10251 -10,801 range in near term with neutral bias.

Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!

The bigger battle for bulls camp would be

reclaiming Nifty's 200 DMA at 10,761. Our sense is

that there is a good chance that profit booking will

emerge amidst lack of any key positive triggers.

Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (10600): Sell on early strength between 10665-10691 zone, targeting 10551 zone and then aggressive targets

at 10401-475 zone with stop at 10777.

Preferred trade on Bank Nifty (26262): Buy between 25901-26101 zone, targeting 26501 zone and then aggressive targets at 26751-26801

zone with stop at 25767.
