‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street

Good Morning & Welcome to Wednesday's trading action at Dalal Street, dated

17th of October 2018.

It is really amazing how fast our stock markets have recovered after the recent bloodbath

from 28th August to 7th October.

Momentum investing is now back at Dalal Street.

We repeat, good things will come only to those market participants who are on the long

side. Our call of the day suggests sea of green on trading screens in today's trade.

Well, that optimism is on backdrop of oversold conditions. Overnight, Wall Street's

spectacular close is also driving investors 'sentiment. U.S. stocks rallied on upbeat

earnings reports and robust economic data, and most importantly helped Wall Street to

shake off Mondays weakness.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 547.87 points, or 2.2%, to 25,798.42,

recording its biggest point gain since March.

Amidst this positive backdrop, we see some evidence of a sentimental shift in investor

sentiment. Our stock markets are likely to zoom in today's trade despite the street battling

a flurry of threats like:

1. Unabated foreign fund outflows.

2. Boiling Oil prices.

3. The weakening India Rupee.

4. U.S China trade war.

5. Rising U.S 10- year treasury notes.

6. A slowdown in China.

7. European political woes.

8. Geopolitical tensions. (Saudi Arabia- U.S.)

Long story short: Blink, and you’ll miss it.

Outlook for Wednesday: Dalal Street to build on positive

momentum.

Early action at SGX Nifty is indicating that Dalal Street is set zoom, indicating an upbeat

session on cards.

All eyes will be on INFY's stock price after the reported a muted Q2 and the

stock could see a lukewarm response from D-Street in today's trade.

Meanwhile, the other prominent firms announcing Q2 this week are

• Wednesday: ACC, CYIENT, DCBBANK, HAVELLS, MINDTREE, MPHASIS, NIITTECH,

RELIANCE.

• Thursday: MPHASIS, MUTHTFN

• Friday: ULTRACEMCO

• Saturday: HDFCBANK, NELCO

STOCKS TO WATCH:

• Our chart of the day suggests establishing long positions in stocks like SRF, DLF and

MCX with interweek perspective. Blink, and you’ll miss DLF, SRF and MCX's remarkable

recovery! Aggressive targets on DLF, SRF and MCX at 175, 1901 and 901 respectively.

• Bullish stocks: SRF, DLF and MCX, GAIL, SUN PHARMA, AUROBINDO PHARMA,

BIOCON, VOLTAS, ESCORTS, JUBILANT FOODS, YES BANK, BAJAJ FINANCE.

Technical Strategy

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street

• Bearish stocks: HCC, TATA MOTORS, RCOM.

Show Me the Money: Buy SRF (1776): SRF is aiming to move above its 5-day

higher consolidation zone. Interweek Strategy: Buy at CMP, targeting 1825 and

then more aggressive targets located at 1899-1901 zone. Stop below 1739.

• Stocks banned in F&O segment for today: IDBI, ADANI POWER

• Infosys reported in-line results for the quarter ended September on Tuesday. The

net profit came in line with estimates, while it was a miss on margins.

GLOBAL CUES:

• Overnight at Dalal Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied almost 550

points on upbeat earnings and robust economic data, marking the biggest one-day

percentage gain since late March. A round of upbeat results Tuesday from

heavyweights including Goldman Sachs Inc., UnitedHealthGroup and Morgan

Stanley helped set the tone.

FII/DII & OPTIONS DATA:

• As per Tuesday’s Provisional Data available on the NSE, FII’s sold shares worth Rs.

1165.63 crores in the Indian Equity Market. DIIs bought shares worth Rs. 1059.44

COMMODITY CUES:

• Crude oil prices gained marginally on Tuesday after the American Petroleum

Institute reported that U.S. crude supplies fell by 2.1 million barrels for the week

ended Oct. 12, according to sources. The recent sequence of higher highs/lows

remains intact. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions between 5205-5225

zone, targeting 5445 zone and then aggressive targets at 5751 with stop at 5100.

• Copper prices were seen trading rangebound in yesterday's trade. Interweek

at 31201 mark. Interweek strategy: Establish long positions between 31501-31601

zone, targeting 32451 mark and then aggressive targets at 32851-32901 with stop

MACRO WATCH:

• The government released the trade deficit data for September after market hour on

Monday. Exports entered negative zone after five months, declining 2.15% in

September on a yearly basis, the data showed. Imports, however, went up by

10.45% in September.

• The WPI based on wholesale price index stood at 5.13% in September as compared

to 4.53% in August.

• The IMF forecasts India's economy could grow 7.3% in the fiscal year ending in

March 2019, versus 6.7% in the last.

• Consumer inflation which stood at 3.77% in September, as against 3.69% in the

previous month. The retail inflation figure were lower than economists' estimates.

Sun Pharmaceuticals was established in 1983 and is

now the largest pharmaceutical company in India

and fifth largest generic company in US. Currently

the company has presence in more than 100

countries across branded and generic market. It has

portfolio of 2000 products across the world with

32,000 plus global employee base. The company has

capacity across dosage forms injectables, sprays,

ointments, creams, liquids, tablets and capsules.

The company has long history of many acquisitions

and prominent among them is Ranbaxy in 2015. The

firm has impressive track record of organic and as

well inorganic growth.

Technically, brace yourselves for a major rebound

play from a complex ‘lower consolidation pattern’ on

the weekly charts. An impulse uptrend is seen

forming on the monthly time scale with recent

sequence of higher high/ higher low pattern on

weekly charts, with positive SAR series, major

confirmation above its intermediate-high at 681

mark. The positive takeaway from recent price

action is that the stock price was seen

outperforming, despite broader markets remaining

volatile. Add to that a bullish divergence and a rising

stochastic signal (on weekly charts) with recent

increase in volumes signaling a larger rebound. The

200 days Exponential Moving Average (EMA) of the

stock on the daily chart is currently at 571. The level

of Rs 571 will act as a strong support and this could

be used to buy aggressively in case of any corrective

declines from current levels.

A potential entrance exists at CMP, as the stock is

likely to run towards 645-651 mark. Aggressive 5

months targets placed at 750 mark. Place stops

below 579.

‘30,000 feet view’: The big picture of Dalal Street

• Factory activity growth - determined by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) - stood at 4.3% in August, slowing down from 6.6% in the

previous month.

• The landscape is bit scary especially on the escalating trade tension between U.S-China. This catalyst could be the real villain rattling

worldwide stock markets. The heightened tensions between U.S. -China could not only hamper U.S. economic growth but derail the global

economy at large. At the time of writing, a tit-for-tat tariff battle between Beijing and Washington remains intact.

• The upcoming assembly elections in five states: Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana. While

Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases on November 12 and 20, the Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram Assembly elections will be held on

November 28. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be held on December 7. Counting of votes will be held across all the five states on

December 11.

CURRENCIES & BONDS:

• As on Monday's close, the Indian Rupee snapped its three-session gaining streak to end 26 paise lower at 73.83 against the US dollar. Rising

crude prices amidst intensifying geopolitical tensions was seen as the key catalyst.

What Technical Tells Us on Nifty:

The benchmark Nifty staged a modest recovery in Tuesday's trade, up 0.85%. The benchmark rose for third day in a row

The positive takeaway was that the benchmark Nifty did continue to pick up the bullish baton from Friday's spectacular close, and most importantly

ended above the psychological 10,500 mark. Also, the gains at our stock markets were despite an extreme bleak Asian markets.

The market breadth in today's trading session was quite strong and most importantly, all sectoral indices ended in the green with maximum gains

visible amongst banks, realty, auto, IT, pharma and FMCG sectors. .

Technically speaking, key support for the day on Nifty is at 10,501 mark. The technical landscape will worsen further if Nifty closes below

the 10,401 mark as that would open the door to massive technical selling, possibly quickly towards the 10,001-10,101 zone.

The intraday bias is positive and buying on any corrective decline should be the preferred strategy.

The make or break hurdles are at 10,775 mark.

The best way to trade this market is to establish long positions only on any intraday corrective declines to 10501-10525 zone with strict below

10451 mark. But please note, this market has much work to do to be on the ultra-bullish side again, so the best strategy is buy aggressively

above 10,775 mark.

The price action for Nifty is suggesting that we are likely to see an 10,401-10,911 range in near term with Positive bias.

Bulls Vs. Bears: Time to Pick a Side!!

Volatility likely to be the hallmark of today's trade.

Preferred trade on Nifty: Nifty (10584): Buy between

10545-10575 zone, targeting 10701 zone and then

aggressive targets at 10751-10751 zone with stop at

10451.

Preferred trade on Bank Nifty: Nifty (25590): Buy

between 25201-25451 zone, targeting 26001 zone and

then aggressive targets at 26445-26501 zone with stop

at 24911.
