Comenius visits Hammersmith Academy Hammersmith Academy has hosted representatives from partner schools in France, Germany, Italy and Spain as part of the Comenius Programme delegation. The Comenius programme is a British Council funded initiative to promote collaborative curriculum work across schools within the European Union. Visitors toured the Academy’s state-of-the-art facilities before shadowing a number of talented linguists during lessons and tutor time. Working alongside students, presented both with the opportunity to develop their lingual skills and become acquainted with the rich and vibrant cultures of other European countries. During their three-day visit, visitors completed a treasure hunt around London alongside HA students (taking in sites such as Big Ben, The London Eye, Westminster Abbey and The Houses of Parliament), toured the Bank of England Museum and completed animation workshops, before watching a special Hairspray performance. The visit to the Hammersmith Academy is the second in the programme’s series with a number of HA students and staff visiting Saarbrucken, Germany, earlier in the year. As the programme continues, the Academy’s students will additionally visit France, Italy and Spain. The Comenius programme aims to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and education staff of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and the value of this diversity and to also help young people to acquire basic life skills and competences for their personal development, for future employment and for active European citizenship.

Comenius visits Hammersmith Academy

Hammersmith Academy has hosted representatives from partner schools in France, Germany, Italy and Spain as part of the Comenius Programme delegation.

The Comenius programme is a British Council funded initiative to promote collaborative curriculum work across schools within the European Union.

Visitors toured the Academy’s state-of-the-art facilities before shadowing a number of talented linguists during lessons and tutor time.
