FOOTBALL

Football is the most important sport in Italy.

This is the Italian football team that won the World Cup in 2006.

Andrea Pirlo is our favourite player. He plays in Juventus and in the national team.

Baggio is a famous football player; today he’s a manager.

This is Buffon; he’s the national team’s captain….

……instead, Prandelli is the coach.

…..and those are the player’s uniforms of Inter, Milan and Juventus….we love these teams….

THE ITALIAN NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

The Italian National Basketball Team won 2 Gold medals 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals at the 2013 European Championship in Slovenia.

Andrea Bargnani, whose nickname is “Il Mago” (the Magician), plays for the Toronto Raptors. He is 2.13 m. tall and weighs 113 kg. He is strong because he is very tall.

Marco Belinelli was born in Bologna. He plays for the Chicago Bulls. He’s 1.98 m. tall and weighs 90.7 Kg.

Danilo Gallinari is a great shooter of three points shots.He is 2.08 m. tall and weighs 102 kg.

ITALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONS FEDERICA PELLEGRINI IS ITALY’S MOST FAMOUS SWIMMING

CHAMPION.

• Pellegrini holds the women's 200 m freestyle (long course and short course) and 400 m (long course) freestyle world record.

• At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, she became the first woman ever to breach the 4 minute barrier in 400 m freestyle with the time 3:59.15.

• Pellegrini is the first female Olympic champion in the history of Italian swimming.

• She is also the only Italian swimmer to have set world records in more than one event.

Ilaria Bianchi conquered the preliminary rounds of Women’s 100m butterfly on fourth day of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Thursday, May 24 2012.She won the gold medal in Women’s 100m butterfly at the 2012 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships in Turkey (dicember) and another one in European Championships, November 2012, breaking her own record in 56.40, Italy’s best time.

Filippo Magnini is an Italian swimmer who was a two-time 100 metres freestyle World champion and a three-time European champion.

ISTANBUL, 13 DEC. - FABIO SCOZZOLI WON ITALY’S FIRST GOLD MEDAL OF THE 11TH FINA WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS (25M) WHEN HE LED FROM THE START TO WIN THE 100M BUTTERFLY AT THE SINAN ERDEM ARENA. 

Rosolino represented Italy in all of the four editions of the Olympic Games since 1996. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he became the second Olympic champion ever in the history of Italian swimming as he won the gold medal in the 200 m individual medley (1:58.98, then Olympic and national record) .Rosolino is the most successful athlete in the history of Italian swimming, with an overall count of 60 international medals,becoming European champion 14 times (7 long course, 7 short course)..

ITALIAN FENCING CHAMPIONS

Maria Valentina Vezzali is a famous italian woman who does fencing. She won three Olympic gold medals, six world qualifications and five European individual qualifications. She won the world cup for eleven times and she was the Italian flagship in London. In 2012 .

Giovanna Trillini won individual gold medal at the 1992 Olimpic games. She won three gold medals between 1992 and 2000 in the team games. She won one silver medal in 2004 and two individual bronze medals in 1996 and 2000.

Aldo Montano won the individual gold medal at the Athens Olimpic games in 2004. He won the bronze medal with his team at the Olimpic games in Pechino in 2008. He won another bronze medal at the world championship in Catania (Sicily) in 2011. In August 2012 he won the bronze medal at the London’s Olimpic games.

ITALIAN ICE-SKATING CHAMPIONS CAROLINA KOSTNER IS ITALY’S MOST FAMOUS SKATING

- ICE CHAMPION.

Kostner is an Italian figure skater on ice. She has skated since the age of 4 years.She won a silver medal in 2008 and two bronze medals in 2005 and 2011.She was world champion in Zagabria in 2012.She’s going to Budapest in 2014.

Valentina Marchei is another Italian champion for skater on ice. She has skated since the age of 7 years.She’s been Italian champion four times: 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2012.She ranked eighth in Zagabria in 2012.

ITALIAN TENNIS CHAMPIONS

Adriano Panatta (born 9 July 1950) is a former professional tennis player from Italy. He is best remembered for winning the French Open in 1976, and for being the only player to ever defeat Björn Borg at Roland Garros, which he did on two occasions.

Panatta became a successful European junior player before turning professional. In his early career, Panatta won top-level professional titles. Panatta was less successful on fast surfaces. After the 1976 Davis Cup triumph, Panatta helped Italy reach the Davis Cup final on three further occasions. Panatta's final career singles title came in 1980 at Florence. He retired from the professional tour in 1983.

Flavia Pennetta (born 25 February 1982 in Brindisi, Apulia) is an Italian professional tennis player. She became Italy's first top 10 female singles player on 17 August 2009 and also the first ever Italian Tennis player to be ranked No.1 in Doubles on 28 February 2011. As of 25 February 2013, Pennetta is ranked World No. 65 in singles and World No. 43 in doubles.

Francesca Schiavone ( born 23 June 1980 in Milan) is an Italian tennis player who turned professional in 1998. She won the 2010 French Open singles title, becoming the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam event in singles. She was also runner-up at the 2011 French Open. As of 25 February 2013, Schiavone's ranking is World No. 51; her career high ranking is World No. 4, achieved on 31 January 2011. Schiavone employs an all court game and has a very classic approach to her clay game.

Sara Errani (born April 29, 1987) is a professional tennis player from Italy. She is the Italian no. 1. As of 25 February 2013, she is ranked world no. 8 in singles. She is the world no. 2 doubles player and has won six career singles titles. Errani's breakthrough season occurred in 2012. Known as a clay-court specialist, Errani won three titles on clay going into the 2012 French Open, where she reached the finals in both the singles and doubles tournaments.

VOLLEYBALL Volleyball is a team sport. Each team ranks six players on

the field separated by a net. Italian national team has never won a gold medal at the Olympics, it won two silver and three bronze medals.

ITALIAN ATHLETICS CHAMPIONS

 

Italy's first gold at the European in Sweden: Daniele Greco on the top step of the podium in the triple jump (17.70 meters). Bronze in the 60 meters 6'' 52 for the athlete .

World Athletics: Antonietta di Martino wins the bronze medal in the high jump.

Fiona May is a former Italian athlete of British origin. She was twice world champion in the long jump. She went up twice on the second step of the Olympic podium. She is still the Italian record holder in the long jump, both outdoor and indoor.

ITALIAN GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONS

The modern gym, as stipulated in the rules of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) embodies, six distinct disciplines:Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Aerobic Gymnastics; Acrobatic Gymnastics, Gymnastics for everyone.

Yuri Chechi born in Prato 's 11/10/1969. He won the first gold medal for the Atlanta 1996 aa rings and 1 bronze in Athens 2004.

Igor Cassina, born in Seregno on 15/08/1977. He won the first gold medal in the bar in Athens 2004.

CANOEING AND KAYAKINGCanoeing became an Olympic sport in Berlin, in 1936.

Elio Sasso Sant was the first Italian paddler in the Olympic games in Berlin.

The main form of competitive sport using canoe and kayaks is canoe racing. Other competitive styles include canoe polo, playboating, extreme racing and surf skiing.

Daniele Molmenti, 28 years old, won gold medal in K1 slalom.

He has been at the first place in World ICF ranking for the last 3 years.

Josefa Idem, a German born sprint canoer, became an Italian citizen in 1992.

Competing in eight Olympics, she has five medals. Winning 35 international medals during her career, Idem was the first Italian woman to win World Championships (22 total, 5 gold) and Olympic medals in canoe sprint.
