Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

Come, ye thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home;

All is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin. God our Maker doth provide for our wants to be supplied;

Come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home.

All the world is God’s own field, fruit unto His praise to yield; Wheat and tares together sown unto joy or sorrow grown.

First the blade and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear;

Lord of harvest, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come, and shall take His harvest home;

From His field shall in that day all offenses purge away, Giving angels charge at last in the fire the tares to cast;

But the fruitful ears to store in His garner evermore.

Even so, Lord, quickly come, bring Thy final harvest home; Gather Thou Thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin,

There, forever purified, in Thy garner to abide; Come, with all Thine angels come, raise the glorious harvest home.

We will seek God’s will, share God’s love, and serve as Christ’s people.

Dear members of Christ Lutheran Church:

The confirmation class of 2019, our current 10

th graders, have just been confirmed on October 27.

What a wonderful time it was for Gwen and me to get to know these young men and women. The church is in good hands. God has given us fun, creative, loving and compassionate young men and women to take care of this church when we are gone. I praise God for His work among these young people. I also give thanks to God for the many, many people who had a part in shaping them: parents, teachers, sponsors, mentors, relatives and friends. And now I thank you, all the people who sup-ported them along the way—you are all so appreciated.

The confirmation service went very well. There are things I want to see improved next year, but I really was pleased with how the service went. I would love to take credit for this service, but much work by many people was put into service. I am not going to mention the names of all the people who helped because I don’t want to miss some-one and hurt their feelings. You know who you are, and a great big thank you to all of you!

Everything that we do, everything we create in the church needs people to help so the church remains healthy and vibrant. We will always need volunteers. Yes, the word is “need”. Volunteering in the church is not optional: we need you.

There is so much potential in Christ Lutheran: God has given us exactly what we need. We have people who are financial geniuses, musicians, artists, knitters, teachers, cooks, set-up and clean-up people, computer experts, and so many more types of people with tremendous talents. We have you! AND, we NEED you.

This church is also filled with creativity and desires for doing new things. Some people want more things for the youth. Some people want more studies of all different kinds.

Fro

he

Pas

tor

...

5

Some people want more community events. The list is end-less actually. We should do all these things. I want all of these things to happen. One of the biggest obstacles to do-ing these things is that we need volunteers…lots of them.

A vibrant, fun, active church is filled with people who want to see the church doing something, and they make it happen. Just like there were many people who wanted the confirmands dedicated to their faith…they made it happen. Just like people who wanted the confirmation service to be a great service…they made it happen.

Our “Evangelical Lutheran Worship” resource book (hymnal) has this hymn: “ELW 575: In Christ Called to Bap-tize.” The last verse says this about our calling: “Unite us, anoint us, O Spirit of love, for you are within us, around us, above. Equip us for service with gifts you bestow. In Christ is our calling. In Christ may we grow.”

Dear Friends in Christ, November is an exciting time, full of many special wor-ship services and other annual events. Please take time to study the church calendar for this month so you don’t miss out! The annual Women of the ELCA Thankoffering will be Nov 10. Many of the bold Women of Christ Lutheran Church will lead worship that morning and our quilters’ hard work will be on display and dedicated that day. In case you were wondering…

Who are the Women of the ELCA? All women who par-ticipate in Women of CLC gatherings, Bible studies, and meetings, or donate their time and talents to WCLC pro-jects are members.

Why do we exist? WCLC’s mission is to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ. This is no longer “Ladies Aid”. Rather our women have a diverse set of circumstances, interests, and talents. You don’t have to know how to quilt or knit or make lefse, though those skills are valued and useful. You don’t have to be a Bible expert. All you need is a willingness to come to-gether in fellowship, grow in your faith, and support each other.

What is a Thankoffering? For more than 100 years, Lu-theran women have given thanks to God along with dona-tions to missions through Thankofferings. Each woman had a special box to put coins in as a way of giving thanks for blessings received throughout the year. At the end of the year, the boxes were brought to church for a Thankof-fering Ingathering. Although we no longer use boxes, the basic idea is the same: to give thanks for the daily bless-ings we receive, to be good stewards of all that we’ve

Th

ank

off

erin

g

7

been given, and to give back. We bring our gifts of money on this Thankoffering Sunday and offer them to God for the work of the Women of the ELCA. In 2019: Since the women of CLC are not the only ones who’ve been richly blessed, we invite all the men to par-ticipate too. Before worship on Nov. 2 and 3, each family will receive a special envelope to use for Thankofferings. Please make checks payable to WCLC.

What is the money used for? The Churchwide Women’s Organization (CWO) uses our Thankofferings to provide many resources for our women and those in need. Your gifts make it possible for the CWO to create and support: communications ministries, including Daily Grace e-

mail devotions, Interchange, Bold Connections, Gather magazine and Café, and an extensive web-site,

justice and advocacy work, free program resources covering a variety of topics Triennial conventions and gatherings, the work of our elected churchwide women’s board,

and other ongoing ministries of the churchwide women’s

organization. These offerings are essential to our partnership with God in accomplishing God’s mission for the world. We give in order to make a difference, always remembering that we are stewards of all that God has given to us.

Yours in Christ, Gwen [email protected]

Wednesday Meals

Everyone is invited to enjoy a meal at church on Wednes-day evenings at 6:15. We are in need of a couple of people to prepare and serve the meals for November 20, Decem-ber 4 and 11. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board across from the kitchen. Please contact Theresa Nysetvold if you have questions. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped to prepare and serve the meals so far this fall. Your time and generosity are greatly appreciated!

Jr. High Youth Gathering

We are excited to have 31 youth from CLC registered to at-tend the Jr. High Youth Gathering in Willmar. Attendees will leave the church around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, and return about 24 hours later.

We are still in need of chaperones. Please call the church office if you can accompany our young people to this inspiring event.

Note: There will be an important meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 20, right after confirmation for all youth and adults who are attending the gathering.

More information will be mailed to parents during the sec-ond week in November. If you have any questions, please call Dawn or Gwen at the office.

Wanted:

Donations of clean, used jeans for our youth to take to the Jr. High Youth Gathering for a service project. You may leave them in Gwen’s office anytime before noon on Nov. 23.

ELCA Youth Gathering theme revealed

The 2021 ELCA Youth Gathering will meet under the theme “boundless: God beyond measure.” The theme is based on Ephesians 3:19, “I want you to know all about Christ’s love, although it is too wonderful to be measured. Then your lives will be filled with all that God is.” Participants will explore how they can find themselves within the boundlessness of Christ’s love. The Gathering will be held June 29-July 3, 2021, in Minneapolis. Visit ELCA.org/Gathering to learn more.

November is that time of year when we give thanks for everything for which we are grateful. Everyone at Christ Lutheran should be especially thankful to all those special people in our congregation who donate their time and talents to serving our church. This in-cludes:

*Weekly Worship Assistants — Acolytes, Lectors, Greeters, Com-munion Assistants, Ushers, Altar Guild, Bread Bakers, those who run the sound system and the power point, those who record the worship service, burn it to a DVD and deliver it to the City Hall,

*Those who serve on Church Council and the variety of commit-tees,

*The Organists, Pianists, members and directors of the Church Choir, help with Sunday School and weekend worship music, and those who provide us with special music,

*Those who work on our bulletin boards, and do seasonal deco-rating throughout the church,

*Those who deliver Meals-On-Wheels, do snow removal, mow lawn, pick up sticks and upkeep our landscaping,

*Those who teach Sunday School, VBS, the Adult Class, Confir-mation and lead Bible Studies,

*Those who serve and work for funerals, Wednesday night meals and other church events,

*Those who make prayer shawls and help quilt, *And all those we may have unintentionally forgotten.

Each person doing their small part, helps to make Christ Lutheran Church what it is today.

Thank You!
