MATTHEW 2:2

2 “Where is the newborn king of the

Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and

we have come to worship him.”

Not coming for what we could get

from God—God would do for

them—Worship.

Western Christianity often puts us at

the center

God is not here for us—We’re here

for God!

God is pleased with our

hearts of worship.

4 POSTURES OF WORSHIP

• Lift Your Hands

• Bring gifts

• Pour out heart

• Bow on your knees

Lift Your

Hands

PSALMS 63:1-4

1 You, God, are my God, earnestly Iseek you; I thirst for you, my wholebeing longs for you, in a dry andparched land where there is no water.2 I have seen you in the sanctuary andbeheld your power and your glory.3 Because your love is better than life,my lips will glorify you.4 I will praise you as long as I live, andin your name I will lift up my hands.

My salvation story -my hands went up

- only response. (Methodist)

Can’t experience God’s_____

and not show gratitude.

Paul was giving Timothy instructions

help Christians worship—Paul hated

Christians

1 TIMOTHY 2:8

8 Therefore I want the men everywhereto pray, lifting up holy hands withoutanger or disputing.

Why lift hands?

God lovesit when we do.

Devastated ladies—Don’t care about

babies.

Dada. Frankenstein walk. Hands lifted.

No loving father would turn from the

lifted hands of his child.

JAMES 4:8

4 Draw near to God and He will drawnear to you.

Worship • Reaching out to God• Offering of Praise• Battle

Amalekites attacked Israelites

Moses said to Joshua—choose some men

and go to battle

Tomorrow I’ll stand point on top of the

mountain and raise my hands to God.

EXODUS 17:10-11

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites asMoses had ordered, and Moses, Aaronand Hur went to the top of the hill.11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, butwhenever he lowered his hands, theAmalekites were winning.

Winning, close, losing.

Some of you are battling

Losing—on your own!

EXODUS 17:12-13

12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, theytook a stone and put it under him and hesat on it. Aaron and Hur held his handsup—one on one side, one on theother—so that his hands remainedsteady till sunset.13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekitearmy with the sword.

Not only do you need God—

you need each other.

Worship together—two or three gather

Lifted hands throughout history

symbolized 2 things:

• VICTORY

• SURRENDER
