Message from the DirectorGreetings,

The City of Sacramento, Department of Parks and Recreation offers an array of diverse programs, services and facilities to the residents of our city and the broader Sacramento community.

Thanks to all of you, the City has increased Park Maintenance services and expanded Community

Center Operations. We have restored vital recreation activities for kids, teens and seniors that were cut during the economic decline. The park system is in better condition, City swimming pools are open with a variety of opportunities to learn to swim, be a part of a swim team, or learn to be a lifeguard. Popular “Hot Spots” - safe and supervised activities for teens - are offered free on Friday evenings at most community centers and various school locations.

The restoration is the result of the successful passage of Measure U, the voter approved City’s half-cent sales tax. Thank you for your continued support of Parks and Recreation in your community.

Key to the Department’s success is our staff and their individual and collective commitment to providing the best services possible. Their continual responsiveness in identifying and answering challenges and opportunities will have an impact on many generations to come.

We are pleased to present our seasonal publication and hope you will find it helpful in finding the program or facility that is perfect for you and your family.

Come Out and Play in Sacramento!

Respectfully,

Jim CombsDirector

Department of Parks and Recreation

Instructor SpotlightFor 30 years, Joanna’s Kids “R” It has provided quality programs at an affordable price throughout the Sacramento region. Students are provided a supportive, non-competitive environment to discover, explore, and develop their skills in the arts of ballet, tap, jazz, and gymnastics. Joanna’s Kids learn that success and achievement is accomplished individually, based on one’s own abilities and effort, regardless of body type or the standards of the competitive community. We are honored that Joanna has chosen our Parks and Recreation Department as home to many of the programs she offers. It is our belief, that the Kids “R” It “family” of students feels equally as blessed to have her. Here are a few things Joanna’s dance “family” had to say about her program:

“Kids “R” It has been an enriching experience for my granddaughter. The interaction with Miss Joanna and her staff has been outstanding.” – Marge Benson aka Nana B.

“The best part of this program is not just teaching dance. It is making friends, working as a team to create something, building confidence and skills that they will use in all areas of their life. Kids “R” It is truly a special & unique program! My family is blessed to be a part of it!” – Tamara Kennedy

“It’s not often that a child “wants” to stay with the same program from K-12, but that’s exactly what happened. By the 6th grade, I thought she might quit. However, she made it clear that she loved Joanna and the class, and wanted to stay forever. This lady is top notch and loves what she does. It shows in everything she does. Thank you Joanna. We love you!!” – Lindie Moore

Congratulations Joanna, on 30 phenomenal years of leading, shaping, and inspiring multiple generations of young Sacramento dancers. Your passion and dedication is unparalleled, and it has been a joy to see this passion instilled in our youth. Thank you, for letting us be a part of it. We look forward to many more successful years to come!
