Elegant Ireland

Laura Ellis

The Republic of Ireland occupies most of the island of Ireland, off the coast of England and Wales. Its capital, Dublin, is the birthplace of writers like Oscar Wilde, and home of Guinness beer. The 9th-century Book of Kells and other illustrated manuscripts are on

show in Dublin’s Trinity College Library. Dubbed the “Emerald Isle” for its lush landscape, the country is dotted with castles like medieval Cahir Castle.

This small escorted tour begins and ends in the bustling city of Dublin where you will take a guided tour and visit Trinity College and view the Book of Kells.

Journey across green rolling pastures to Galway and scenic Connermara. Then on to the beautiful Cliffs of Moher and Ennis, dating back to the 11th century, with its narrow streets and quaint shops. Cross the river Shannon Estuary by ferry as you head to picturesque Killarney where you will spend 2-nights.

Explore the scenic Dingle Peninsula for views of heathery mountains, sandy beaches and rocky headlands. Continuing on to Rosscarbery, you will visit this Historic Kinsale, renowned for medieval sea trade.

Traveling on to Blarney, you will visit Blarney Castle where you will kiss the famous Blarney Stone. Heading north, you will stop for photos at the Rock of Cashel and return to Dublin.

This popular 10-day tour is priced from $2200 and runs May to August. Call the travel professionals at Warwick Travel for a detailed itinerary.

Iceland’s Magical Northern LightsLinda Waynick

Spend your days surrounded by waterfalls, icebergs and volcanic beaches and your nights in search of the spectacular northern lights.

Discover Iceland, a land and culture forged by fire and ice – steaming lava fields and massive glaciers sculpt mountains and valleys, leaving thundering waterfalls and plunging fjords. In this land of many natural wonders, enjoy the rare opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis – one of nature’s most dazzling light displays, also known as the Northern Lights, a dazzling astronomical display of lights bursting with color that unfolds before your eyes.

Your Collette adventure begins in Reykjavik where you will travel the incredible Golden Circle, a route that encompasses many of Iceland’s most renowned natural wonders. Journey to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the nation’s most historic area, where Icelanders gathered in 930 A.D. and established what is considered one of the world’s first parliaments.

As you travel the famous Golden Circle and take in Iceland’s natural beauty, you will experience the energy at the geothermal fields of Geysir and Strokkur. As you drive along the scenic south shore, you will learn about the Eyjafjallajokull volcano and the dramatic 2010 explosion that brought European flights to a halt.

Visit Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon where you will see floating icebergs and seals swimming in Artic waters. Later in the evening, you will continue searching for the shimmering northern lights dancing across the night sky.

This 7-Day Adventure offers 10 meals and starts at $2499.

Experience the history, culture, food and architecture of old-world Europe combined with amazingly blue seas, thick

forests and the region’s best beaches.

This small, horseshoe-shaped Balkan country is steadily becoming one of Europe’s most popular summer holiday destinations. With its stunning beaches, crystalline waters, incredible history and great food, Croatia is definitely worth a visit on any trip to southeastern Europe. This small group adventure begins and ends in Dubrovnik, Croatia, which fronts the Adriatic Sea. After spending the night, you will board your small ship, MV Karizma, to begin your 7-night

cruise, visiting the islands of Mljet, Korcula, Hvar and Bol as well as Split and Omis, Croatia.

Included, you will find English-speaking guides for shore excursions, 8 Breakfasts, 6 Lunches and 8 Dinners. On board, lunches and dinners are complimented with unlimited local wines, beer and soft drinks. This 10-Day Cruise Adventure starts at $2879 double occupancy.

There are many facets to Croatia and the Adriatic Coast that make it an ideal destination for American travelers. Small ship cruising has become very popular today. Exploration and relaxation make it the perfect vacation. It is definitely a “bucket list” destination.

The Harbour Bridge, opened in 1932, is an impressive steel arch bridge across the blue waters of Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, bi-cycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business and the North Shore. For those who are good with heights and would like to enjoy a truly spectacular view of the harbor, there are organized climbs to the top of the bridge. It is said that the climb is more demanding than climbing a set of stairs; however, it is not so demanding as the name implies. Positioned across Sydney’s breathtaking nat-ural harbour, the bridge has become one of the most photographed fea-tures of this beautiful city. It is a world-renowned symbol of Australia.

Beyond Sydney, there are many great destina-tions to explore in re-gional New South Wales, from some of the world’s best surfing beaches and national parks to wonderful wine regions. The World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains are just two hours from the city center by train.

TRAVELWISE

Sydney: Australia’s most beautiful cityBy Nancy B. Alligood, CTC, Warwick Travel Service

Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, is known as the Harbour

City. It’s the largest, oldest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia with a reputation as one of the world’s most beautiful and livable cities. A temperate climate makes Sydney spectacular at any time of the year.

Brimming with history, nature, cul-ture, art, fashion, cuisine and design, Sydney is situated next to miles of ocean coastline and sandy surf beaches. Long-term immigration has led to the city’s reputation as one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in Australia and the world.

The city is also home to the Sydney Opera House, with a distinctive sail-like design, and the impressive Sydney Harbour Bridge, two of the most iconic structures on this planet. These beauti-ful images inspire people from all over the world to visit Sydney.

The World Heritage-listed Opera House is a multi-venue performing arts center and home to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. It has been home to many of the world’s greatest artists and performances. Opened in 1973, it is one of the 20th century’s most famous and distinctive buildings.

Several years ago, I escorted a group of Warwick Travelers to Australia and New Zealand on a 23-day adventure. We took a guided tour and attended

a performance at the amazing Sydney Opera House. We had one brave person in our group who chose to do the bridge climb. She said it was an awe-some experience!

We traveled through the beauti-ful Blue Mountains region between Sydney and Cairns (the Great Barrier Reef, world’s largest coral reef system.) While in Cairns, we met up with my business partner, Gerry, who was escorting a group of Warwick Travelers on an ocean cruise from Sydney to Bangkok. They were visiting the Port of Cairns on our arrival date. Although this was not planned in advance, what great fun we had meeting up “down under!”

What an amazing trip—one of a lifetime! If you have not been, you must discover this land “down under.” Sydney was one of my favorite destina-tions, and I would love to return one day—it truly is Australia’s most beauti-ful city.

Whether by land or by cruise, add this to your bucket list—go now for an undeniably memorable adventure!

Thanks to Janis Belch in the Williamsburg Office, all the details from the Hotel ‘Park ‘n Fly’ to an extended stayover in Reykjavik were handled to perfection.

It was great fun to tour beginning in Miami, up the east coast to fabulous Bar Harbor, then whale and puffin watching in three ports in Canada and finally enjoying the majestic and unique scenery of the glaciers and waterfalls of Iceland. A few days at sea provided just the right ‘break’ from the excitement of the excursions.

Warwick Travel Williamsburg has been a great resource for us. From arranging small, custom trips to the ‘once in a lifetime’ adventures, the ladies there know just how to assist in making the journey possible and hassle free!

Brian & Marie Smith, Hampton, VA – Thank you so much Kim for all of your help for our trip to France. The Uniworld cruise was even better than our precious experience. The SS Catherine was beautiful and of course the staff was wonderful. The food was delicious and it was fun having champagne every day. The train schedule you provided allowed for fast and economic travel within France. The hotel you booked in Avignon was perfectly located with excellent service and an amazing breakfast. And, it was about 1/3 the cost of the hotel that Brian had found. We could actually walk with our luggage from the hotel to our boat.

The ports and excursions on this trip were great. We did a couple of optional excursions to a wine tasting and an olive garden were outstanding. We had a long and relaxed stay in Paris.

Kim, you do such a remarkable job making travel easier. You helped make this one of our best trips ever.
