LIGNOIL CHEMICALSIn the Lignoil Process lignin is depolymerized to

produce small chemicals that can replace petroleum to form plastics

and other useful products.

Lignin is of increasing interest: Ragauskas, A.J., et al. Lignin valorization: improving lignin processing in the

biorefinery. Science, 2014; 344: 1246842-1 – 1246843-10.

Lignin from the Alkcell Process is not chemically modified and can be used as a safe material for

cosmetics.

LIGNOIL CELLULOSEThe Alkcell Process (patent protected) converts biomass such as switchgrass and corn stover to lignin and cellulose.

This pretreated cellulose can be transported economically due to

increased density compared with raw biomass.

This cellulose can be used to produce cellulosic fuel bioethanol without further

pretreatment.

Page 5: Combined Slides

LIGNOIL CELLULOSELignoil cellulose can also be used to produce

plastics and other chemicals derived from cellulose. The Alkcell Process can be done directly on the farm

Lignin from the pulp and paper industry can also be

depolymerized to form small molecules for the chemical industry but requires additional treatment.

LIGNOIL GLOW & LIGNOIL FADE

Pure lignin such as produced on farm by the Alkcell Process is an emulsifier with plant oils.

Lignoil Glow is a mixture of plant lignin and other plant oils plus a

natural mineral.

Lignin in Lignoil Glow has many health benefits reported in the scientific literature.

Lignin has hydrating, antioxidant, immunologic, sunscreen, and

antimicrobial properties.

Lignoil Fade is identical to Lignoil Glow but also contains hydrogen peroxide to enhance the fading of bruise marks and age spots.

MARKET VALUE OF LIGNOIL CELLULOSE, CHEMICALS, FUEL, AND COSMETICS

The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2020:• The market for biofuels, bio-based bulk chemicals &

plastics, and bioprocessing enzymes will be $95 billion.• Producing and transporting biomass to borefineries will

generate $12 billion.• Conversion of biomass to heat and power to be $65

billion.• The bioplastics industry will triple to 3450 kilotons.

Clean Edge investment analysis estimates that the bioethanol and biodiesel industries will grow by five times by 2020 to $112.8 million.

MARKET VALUE OF LIGNOIL CELLULOSE, CHEMICALS, FUEL, AND COSMETICS

LigniMATCH’s FUTURE USE OF LIGNIN IN VALUE ADDED PRODUCTS estimates that isolation of phenol from lignin will cost $800/tonne, comperable to today’s petroleum based phenol.

Strassberger, et al., The pros and cons of lignin valorisation in an integrated biorefinery, RSC Adv., 2014, 4, 25310- The market value of BTX (benzene, toluene, xylene) from petroleum in 2012 was nearly $100 billion. Replacing this with lignin derived BTX would eliminate petroleum.

The market valuation of lignin in cosmetics will be shown in a following section devoted to Lignoil Cosmetics.

Lignoil Fade has the same potential skin health properties as Lignoil Glow but also contains hydrogen peroxide to remove skin

discolorations such as age spots and bruise marks

Page 14: Combined Slides

Lignoil Glow contains lignin, plant oils, and a

sunblocking mineral. This all natural skin care

cosmetic can be used by all adult men and women

to support skin care health of the face and body.

Lignoil Fade has the same ingredients as

Lignoil Glow plus hydrogen peroxide. It can help remove discolored

areas of the skin such as those caused by bruises

and age spots.

Dr. Savarese has formulated Lignoil Glow and Lignoil Fade.

Farmer McDonnell produces the lignin on his farm from switchgrass, a non-food crop.

Both discussing on-farm lignin production. Lignin helps reduce climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Research on health benefits from lignin Comparative antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of lignins from different sourcesBioresource Technology Volume 99, Issue 14, September 2008, Pages 6683–6687These findings suggest new uses for lignins in cosmetic and topical medical formulations. This study aims to demonstrate the antioxidant activity and stability of several lignins from different sources. It assesses their suitability for new commercial applications, mainly in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, by discarding any possible cytotoxic properties. Lignin: a nature-inspired sun blocker for broad-spectrum sunscreensGreen Chem., 2015,17, 320-324 Adding 10 wt% lignin makes SPF 15 outperform SPF 50. It is also interesting to find that the sunscreen performance improves with UV-radiation time. This nature-inspired lignin system may provide a green alternative to replace some synthetic sunscreen actives.

LIGNOIL COSMETICSLognoil Glow is used to support and keep skin healthy. There

are numerous reports of the potential

health benefits of lignin that is the

major ingredient. The remaining

ingredients are all natural. It can be used by all adults, women and men to maintain healthy

face and body skin. It is environmentally friendly and helps

reduce climate change.

Page 20: Combined Slides

Lignoil Fade is used to support the body’s

healing process to remove

discolorations. The bruise marks here are from a sports

injury. With one week of Lignoil Fade application, the majority of the

discoloration is gone. Age spots and liver

spots can be targeted also.

July 1, 2015 U.S. Skin Care Market to Reach Nearly $11 Billion in 2018 As expected, skin care is not slowing down. The global skin care industry is estimated to reach $121 billion in 2016. And by 2018, the U.S. skin care market will reach $10,717.4 million.Skin care awareness and consciousness are some of the driving forces behind the booming industry, says Kathleen Zacrep, MarketRe-search.com. Although older consumers are still key to marketing efforts, younger consumers are becoming more aware of the value in taking care of their skin. Demand for Naturals & Organics: There is a rising demand driven by natural and organic products with no unnecessary chemicals, parabens, additives or fillers. This segment accounts for more than one-third of the $9.6 billion natural and organic personal care industry, saysNutrition Business Journal, and is growing even faster than the overall skin care market.
