Headteacher’s News We’ve made it to half term! I hope everyone has a restful week next week. We look for-ward to seeing the children again on Wednesday 4th November, after our two INSET days.
Please note that the road outside school is closed from Monday 26th October until Friday 6th November. Access and parking may be more difficult than usual.
Just a reminder that our breakfast club runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:35am. Number are particularly low at the moment so please support it if you can.
Thank you for you support this half term. See you on the 4th!
Year 3/4 visit the Earth Trust The children have written about what they enjoyed most about the visit.
When I was building my shelter, I thought in my head that this was the favourite part of
the trip. When I am older I’d like to visit the Earth Trust again. I learnt that in the Iron Age
it would be a lot harder to light a fire than in modern days. Dylan
My favourite part was building dens. I enjoyed building them because we had to work
together. I learnt lots but one of them is that the Celts were naked and they had blue
paint and wee on them! I was surprised how steep the hill forts were. I would like to find
out how they got the top of the hill fort so flat. Rosie
I really enjoyed making the clay pots. I wish I could go back again. I learnt a lot about the
Iron age. For example, I learnt that the Celts used wee and a type of plant to make blue
paint to cover themselves in. They would then strip all of their clothes off to scare away
the Romans! Lola
I learnt that people didn’t live in hillforts because there was no room for the crops. When I
got to the top of the hill, there was a great big view of everything. Rose

Pheasants Termly Update
Well, what a term! We’ve clambered up Iron Age Hill forts, built shelters, weaved willow and considered some of the changes in our world over time. I have been im-pressed with the children’s sensitivity, wonder and questioning, especially in their learning about black history this month. It has been a joy to question them, challenge them and listen to their thoughts, opinions and intelligent questions after months of remote learning.
Swallows Termly Update
Our first half term has flown by in Swallows Class. We've enjoyed (and finished) our first class novel, puzzled through plenty of maths challenges, been visited by a Viking and celebrated Black History Month with an exploration of Empire Windrush. The children have listened to plenty of music and got very messy with charcoals and graphite sticks too!
Kingfishers Termly Update
What a fabulous term Kingfishers Class have had. The children settled swiftly
into the 'new normal' and have adjusted well to the changes in routines. Not
only are they working well as a class community, but have embraced our new
broad and balanced curriculum, making progress at their own levels. They read
and write with enthusiasm, and focused work in maths has benefitted the
mathematical development of all pupils. Our Big Question, 'Is there only ONE kind of treasure?'
has sparked the enthusiasm of all. The children enjoyed learning about pirate life, famous pi-
rates and continents and oceans of the world. Our creative skills have been well explored in the
making of tube pirates, compasses, pirate flags, treasure maps and pirate ships, as well as cre-
ating fabulous pirate themed poems and a delightful 'treasure searching' dance. Yo ho ho! The
fun continues after half term as we further develop our lifelong love of learning.
Green Club
Green Club’s autumnal activities have included: making apple pies from the schools apple tree;
creating mini pumpkin planters for tiny succulents; seed harvesting; pond cleaning; and lots
more. Green Club will resume after half term on Thursdays. Well done all– one of the Green
Club activities has featured on Yarnton Home and Garden’s Instagram page!
Red Kites Termly Update
We have had a really positive first half term and the children have enjoyed exploring our Big
Question “Is there only one kind of treasure?”
We have focused on the importance of our friends and family and have also looked at treas-ures of the natural world. We have used these treasures in all aspects of our learning this term. Our science focus has been on seasonal changes and we have just finished some work on hedgehogs by putting a hedgehog house down at the bottom of our playground.
I hope you were hap-
