Response to October 2018 letter from

“Concerned Boise Residents” The Idaho National Guard is committed to good environmental stewardship,

which includes being a good neighbor. We rely on the support of our community to achieve mission success.

To this extent, the Idaho Air National Guard adheres to very strict noise abatement procedures when operating aircraft, particularly on take-offs and approaches coming to and leaving from Gowen Field and the Boise Airport's runways.

The Idaho Air National Guard has operated from Gowen Field for over 70 years and these noise abatement procedures have proven extremely effective, as evidenced by the strong and longstanding relationship with our neighbors.

Nearly all noise complaints received by the Idaho National Guard regarding jet noise are the result of transient military aircraft--military that are traveling through the Boise area but are unrelated to the Idaho National Guard. They are not here to train with units nor utilize facilities of the Idaho National Guard. These aircraft are using the Boise Airport's runways and commercial facilities that do not belong to the Idaho National Guard.

When military aircraft come to the Boise Airport and/or Gowen Field for Idaho National Guard-related activities, we ensure these units and pilots adhere to the same noise abatement procedures we do. On those occasions when we host visiting aircraft which may result in elevated volume due to increased activity, we inform the public through social media and/or a media advisory.
