CROSS COUNTRY / TRACK & FIELD
THE PURSUIT OF PERSONAL EXCELLENCE IS CHALLENGING AND FULFILLING. RELISH ITS INTENSITY, CHERISH ITS BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS, AND
ACCEPT ITS LESSONS AND RISKS. – TERRY ORLICK
Head Coach Tim Cornell This is the beginning of something Great! There’s no better way to describe the Columbia College Cross Country / Track & Field program and I am excited to welcome you to CC during this period of growth. Cornell comes to CC after a successful career at the University of Missouri, and Columbia Hickman High School. During that time, Cornell won 4 MSHSAA State Titles, was 3 time All Big 12 athlete and qualified for the USATF Outdoor National Championships at 1500m. Cornell is certified with USATF and served as Director of Operations for the University of Missouri prior to accepting the Head Job for Columbia. My goals for building this program are simple. We want to achieve to the highest level possible for each and every student-athlete on the team and in so doing compete for conference and national championships. Columbia College has a fantastic history of athletic success with 3 National Titles and 173 All-Americans. We want to add to that success and know that we will be able to do so quickly. Cornell lives in Columbia with his wife Kasey, who was a Track& Field standout for Mizzou and Eureka High School.

Where the Cougars Train
Columbia is consistently ranked as one of the top small cities in the United States,
due in part to the numerous parks, trails and soft surface training locales in and around
the city. The cities neighborhoods and surrounding gravel roads in combination with the
in city options gives Columbia a breadth of training options not seen other places.
Stephen’s Park – Approximately 1 mile from the CC Campus is Stephen’s Park, with
over a square mile of open grass. The soft surface, rolling hills and proximity to
campus make Stephen’s an idyllic training locale.
MKT Trail – Chat Trail running through the heart of Columbia is located only 1 mile from
Campus. The MKT is a great surface and offers variety and connections to many of
Columbia’s best areas.
Cosmo Park – Columbia’s recreation center has miles of grass that is perfect for distance
training as well as a connection to the Bear Creek Trail, the sister trail to the MKT.
Cosmo offers main loops including a 2 mile loop. Cosmo hosted the NCAA Club
Regional Cross Country Championships in the Fall of 2011.
Rock Bridge State Park – Columbia’s premier single track trail destination Rock Bridge
offers miles upon miles of soft surface ideal for recovery and strength building. The shade
and cover of the trees keeps this park warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The
grasslands area on the south side of the park offers upwards of 2 miles of well maintained
grass running that closely resembles most collegiate cross country courses.
