ADIDAS: #BREAKEXPECTATIONS

MANCHESTER UNITED KIT

In the summer of 2014 Adidas signed a world record £750m deal to make Manchester United’s kit for the next decade. In the months leading up to the official launch we were asked to consider a packaging solution for a VIP list of early recipients that would add another dimension to

the grand unveiling.



We set about working on a unique packaging solution that would focus on the moment of reveal, adding layers and teasers that

hinted at what might lay beneath.

A trident device and dotted ‘M’ pattern had been created for the #BreakExpectations campaign.

These became the starting point for discussions on foils, cuts and foams to add levels of texture and luxury

beyond the norm.



The resulting packaging is formed of two main parts, a slipcase and a hinged box. Tactile paper lining is

silky to the touch while red, white and black metallic foils create further levels of texture by contrasting

the finish of the stock.

Once the slipcase is removed the shirt is housed in a black foam tray which is partially hidden by a die-cut page, sewn into the magnetic fastening device

that seals the box.



ADIDAS ATHlETICS: #FINDFOCUS

To announce the arrival of Adidas Athletics, we were asked to create premium packaging solutions for one of the largest cross category activations the brand has ever seen. The results would involve individuals, teams and

colleges from around the world with over 18,000 athletes and influencers helping to generate a buzz for the new

collection. It was time to #findfocus.



The Z.n.E (zero negative energy) hoodie would lead the launch, together

with the platform #findfocus. Our packaging enhances the established themes, creating a ‘zone’ around the

contents. By using pyramid foam panels more commonly associated with sound-proofing as an external element, we were able to create a unique solution previously unseen

in the market. A laser etched acrylic slipcase formed the packaging for the

U.S markets. This housed a hinged box enclosed in more foam.



The final solutions are finished to a high standard, with additional foil blocking to internal plinths, belly

bands and personalised envelopes. The packaging has been a key focus on social media platforms, with thousands of recipients excitedly revealing their special deliveries to their followers. The box-opening ‘reveal’ has been a fundamental aspect in reinforcing the Adidas Athletics experience, through the premium nature of the product

and the storytelling of the concept itself.

We were appointed to create a piece of bespoke packaging for a launch event in central

London to be hosted by David Beckham. The two piece

presentation box consisted of an inner box with a magnetic hinge that was wrapped in a

self-coloured ‘belly-band’ and printed with a red foil.

We were tasked with creating a piece of premium packaging that would be sold exclusively

at the chelsea store at Stamford Bridge. Our solution took advantage of high-quality

self-coloured stock and foil block printing.
