What Is Light ?

Light is simply a name for a range of electromagnetic radiation that can be detected by the human eye.

Electromagnetic radiation has a dual nature as both particles and waves.

Brightness and Colour of the light are depend on amplitude and wavelength in electromagnetic wave.

The Role of Light to Sight

The object is absorbing all the other colors of light except the ones we see, which are reflected back to our eyes

Human eyes contain sets of cells that recognize color spectrum range of 400-750 nm.

Reflection

Is a light ray strikes a smooth surface, such as a mirror, and bounces off.

This is happening according to the low of Reflection.

Total internal reflection

. The larger the angle to the normal, the smaller is the fraction of light transmitted, until the angle when total internal refraction (blue line) occurs. (The color of the rays is to help distinguish the rays, and is not meant to indicate any color dependence.)

MIRAGE

• A mirage is a naturally occurring optical phenomenon in which light rays are bent to produce a displaced image of distant objects or the sky.

• 1.Inferior mirage• 2.Highway mirage• 3.Superior mirage

Refraction

Light rays bend at the interface between two dissimilar media and may be curved in a medium in which the refractive index changes.

The angle of refraction, of the light wave depends on how much the material slows down the light.

A rainbow

White light separates into different Colours on entering the raindrop due to dispersion, causing red light to be refracted less than blue light.

Blue light refracts more than red light to deviate from is original path by a greater angle than the red light.
