Type Poster

This project was pretty discouraging for me. I had a lot of ideas for this one but I could never quite get the feel I wanted. The idea was to develop a poster using only tupe. I really wanted to figure out some typography illustrations but I couldn’t figure out how to get them to fit into what I was communicating. I’d been playing with some minimalist concepts and I honestly just got to the point where I gave up and went the pure info route.

Ad

For our ad we had to design something that adressed stereotyping. I happened to grow up in a very multi-cultural enviro-ment and developed a few interests and hobbies that weren’t typical of your average black guy. I soon realized that I was a walking antistereotype. I grabbed a photo I took for a business card when I was a DJ and started cranking away at a few of my idiosyncrasies. This is what happened

Typesetting

This layout was probably one of the ones that I attempted to keep the simplest. It was based on an entry I worked on for my blog. I travel a lot for work and wanted to compile all my skills and knowledge gained over the last two years of jet-set-ting. I enjoyed writting it and more interestily the picture was taken during a huge layover and flight delay due to a snow storm. The delay put all my skills to the test and I can honestly say practicing what I preach got me through the ordeal.

Color Profile

When we started the semester I was on a huge minimalist design kick. I’ll admit that I’m not sure if I’m over it yet. Anyway I thought greens and blues, beign my favorite colors would make for a great vibrant layout focus. I happened to be sub-scribed to Dwell magazine at the time so my thoughts immediately went to home landscaping and design.

Working on the chart was the hugest challenge of the semester. I generally tried to shy away from Illustrator because I don’t have much experience it it but I couldn’t avoid it for this assignment. I had trouble with some of the recoloring. All in all I’m ok with it for being my first true Illustrator project.
