Been awhile since I’ve chimed in. Great league to watch. Another season has flown by. I saw CTS won it again last Spring. How many trophies is that? Duece must have a room just for the trophies. Enough about last season.

My thoughts on the fall season. First, a lot of changes. Players changed teams all over the place. What happened to the Goats?? Doc went to Mile High Built. Artie moved to the Huskers. How did Mike Timm end up with CTS? When did that even happen? Next thing I knew, he was lining up in a CTS uniform. It wasn’t even a uniform; it was just a t-shirt. What did NOCO think of that? I guess it’s not NOCO anymore, just the Bulls. What’s wrong with NOCO? The Oilers, who made it through last season, merged with NOCO. That’s crazy!! When I heard about it, I wasn’t sure what to think. No more SWAT. Those players went everywhere. Dajuan also went to the Huskers. Talk about signing two top free agents; is there a salary cap in this league? Dajuan’sbrother ended up with the Chiefs. How did that happen? The Huskers didn’t hold on to everyone though. Julian, Ceddy and Stephen all went to Menace. Why’d they pick that team? I didn’t see Stephen much this season though, something about a hurt hand. Menace didn’t exactly take advantage of the new additions. On paper, I saw a lot of talent. What happened to them? Is Jesse, their QB, not good enough? They made the playoffs, but eh, I don’t know. They sucked the first few games, then gave the Bro’s and the Huskers everything they could handle. Kind of a split personality. We’ll see which one shows up this weekend. I won’t call Jesse old, because Pat is older and still doin’ it out there. The Rockers turned the league upside down!! Came out 4-0 with some huge wins. That offense was unstoppable at some points. They didn’t end the season too well though. Another team where you don’t know who’s gonna show up. The Bro’s; they’re playing really well. They seem to get it going as the season goes on. Donnie is fun to watch. Wait, the whole team is fun to watch. Greg, Moss (is that his actual name?), Koree, a lot of athletes on that team. Hey Miko, are you reading this? Hope you come back to play. The Disciples. How did that team end up in the A league?? Can someone explain this? They didn’t win the B. Then they just showed up. I was pleasantly surprised how they played though. They beat Menace and competed in a lot of games. At one point, I didn’t think they’d be the team that had to go back down to the B league. Hopefully, they can make it back. Haydn, Dero, and Coleman can play.

Who is Devon Acker??? How did he lead the league in sacks for a team that won’t be in the A league next season???? Mile High Built; not sure what to think of them. They’re not a bad team at all. Should’ve beat the Bro’s (what a catch DaVaughn). They have a good QB, solid receivers, and a defense that isn’t easy to score on. Maybe they should’ve begged Artie to stay. Hopefully next year they come back stronger. Who’s left? The Huskers. Wow, just wow, talk about talent. All over the field. Every position. Starts with Artie and goes down the line. Hey Antoine, everyone’s copying your dip move. Time to get creative and start a new trend. That pass rush is relentless. Who’s is better? The Bro’s or the Huskers defensive line? CTS. Deuce got hurt, or he at least can’t play QB, and that’s not good. CTS might have the best overall defense, and they’ve got some serious talent at WR, but not having Deuce at QB makes it tough. You can never count out a team with that many trophies, and the saying it’s hard to beat a champion is very true.

The B league. I’ll focus on the playoff teams. Why didn’t these other teams get a chance to go to the A league? Who made that call? Did these teams decline? Well, anyways…. So, where did the Band of Brothers come from? They’re pretty good. Solid offense, good athletes. They could have what it takes to win the B league. We’ll see though, when you go into the playoffs as the favorite, there’s added pressure. Can they handle it? The Chiefs are a seasoned bunch. They have quite a few guys that have already played in the A league, so that could help ‘em. FOE has athletes all over the place. They’ve also played in A league at one point. Kryptonite; they seem good every season, but they can’t win it. Is this the year? Matadors have been around too haven’t they? I’ve heard about their team. Underachiever’s also? Lightning; they have that spread offense, tough to defend. Could cause a problem.

My thoughts for the playoffs in both leagues. It’s gonna be cold. Really, really cold. I don’t do the predictions, but I can read, and the weather report says cold. Best of luck to all the teams. 2 trophies will be handed out, that is for sure.

COLORADO’S MOST COMPETITIVE 8 V 8 FULL CONTACT FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Manual High School, Denver CO – 10.20.19

10.27.19

It's playoff time folks and we are down to the final six teams battling for the all elusive trophy. The first match up will be between the #4 seeded Bulls taking on the #5 seeded Rockers. Both teams accumulated a record of 4 and 3 on the season. The Bulls are coming into this game having won their final three games. The weapons at David Knighton's disposal are abundant and with one of the best offensive lines in front of him, he should have plenty of time to find those weapons. It will be interesting to see if the weather has any effect on the deep ball that the Bulls love to throw. On defense the Bulls have stud Middle linebacker Mike Uribe who's been making play after play all season long. With CJ Lovett, Josh Morris, and Corey Sample, it's hard to find open receivers. Having to find those openings will be the Rockers receivers who accomplished that in week 2 of the season. Lately the Rockers have faced three teams that know them extremely well. All three of those games didn't go in the Rockers favor, so we have two teams trending in totally opposite directions. Will the trend continue or will the trend for each team be flip flopped?

The second game will feature the #3 seeded CTS going against the #6 seeded Menace. This rematch once again features two of the best defenses in the league. While we all know CTS's defense can get the job done, the key to their success will be placed on the shoulders of QB Rich Shinazy. Rich has had an up and down season with his best outing coming in week 7 against Mile High Built. The numbers may be down for that offense this season, but they are loaded with playoff experience. As for Menace, it took them half the season, but they are finally looking like the Menace everyone is accustomed to seeing. Super star wide receiver Marcus Crowder could have easily been the back to back Primetime Player except for this was the second season he had to miss the final week of the regular season, costing him the award. The burden for Marcus has been alleviated as this offense has Julian Banks, Stephen Mamuzich, and Kyle Trinidad. So many top tier players on both teams should make this a heck of a game to watch. Look for both teams to bring a lot of pressure trying to force bad throws.

The Bros are the number #1 seed and they will face the lowest seed to come out of the first round. Meaning they definitely won't face CTS but, the other three teams are a potential opponent. They only lost to one of those teams and that was the first game of the season. They have found their groove and how they are playing right now, is championship level ball. They were dead last in sacks this season, but the amount of pass rush pressure has translated to be the top team in turnovers. Just like most teams, the real question will be how much does the snow effect the running capability of Donell Wells.

The Huskers pretty much cruised to their six wins in the regular season but a late loss to the Bros made them the #2seed. So, they'll face the highest remaining seed from the first round. They do know they won’t face Menace in the semis. The Huskers did average 36 points per game and only 14 points allowed against the other three teams combined. Statistically the Husker shad the highest scoring offense and the lowest points allowed defense. So needless to say, whoever moves on to play that Huskers team will have a difficult time moving on to the championship round.

COLORADO’S MOST COMPETITIVE 8 V 8 FULL CONTACT FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE

By Michael Parfitt – Colorado Flag Football Corner

On a miserably windy and cold day, the final games of the regular season got underway. Both teams were locked in as one of the top three seeds for the playoffs. What was still at stake was the overall number 1 seed. The Huskers held that #1 seed going in but at the end of the day the Bros would be the owners of that #1 seed. Donell Wells would guide his offense to a 12-0 leading the first half. It appeared as though the Bros would run away with this one, but that narrative changed in the second half. They would only manage one more score that ultimately gave them a two-score lead. The Defense for the Bros was on point all game long. Coming up with three interceptions and limiting Artie Barcelo to only one touchdown pass. When it comes to throwing the ball, this was not Artie's best game; pretty much the furthest thing from it. Not sure if the cold and wind attributed to it, but Artie only mustered up a 37.5 QB rating. Not all things were bad, as he ate up 140 yards rushing. Towards the end of the game he did turn and mention to the staff "it’s about to turn into a track meet." At that point the game was all but decided, so I don’t blame the guy for adding as much stats as he could. The Huskers d-line would pick up two sacks on the day, one each from Scotty Phillips and Mario Lopez. On the season, the Huskers defense ended up second in sacks, interceptions, and tied for first in pick sixes. The Bros defense was 1st in interceptions as well as the other team in 1st for pick sixes. What's actually shocking is the Bros were last in sacks on the season. With the elite pass rushers they have, that is very tough stat to believe. These teams will both have to wait for the conclusion of the first-round games to see who they will play. It's a possibility they could see each other again in the championship game.

CTS came into the day having already secured their playoff spot, but they were looking to improve on their seeding. Mile High Built on the other hand was battling not just for a potential playoff spot but also for their invitation for the Pro Division for next season. CTS got things going with Teddy Colbert beating his defender down the middle of the field. Teddy was a split second from turning on the afterburners when all of a sudden, he was being dragged down to the ground. He would get the TD due to the “Last Man Standing” rule as no one else would have been able to catch Teddy. This was by far the best game Rich Shinazy had this season for CTS. He utilized the short passing game to perfection on his way to four passing touchdowns while only having three incompletions on the day. Dallas Huber stepped in on defense and would grab two interceptions. For MHB they were without Derek Holiday and turned to Ross Alisiani. Ross would step in quite well at QB and produced 300 yards passing and two touchdowns. His favorite targets were Isiah Kampeska and Austin Rholeder. Even though Mile High Built was able to put up some decent stats, this game was never in question as CTS never gave up the lead. MHB would now anxiously have to wait for the remaining two games to know if they would be getting that invite or not.

The Bulls must enjoy the theme of keeping things interesting as they got another close win. The Bulls would once again get a two-touchdown lead in the first half only to see their scoring production be non-existent in the second half. Eric Dynes would once again be a big-time deep threat for David Knighton as he would go on to have 116 receiving yards on four catches for an astounding29.0 yards per catch. The offensive struggles didn't seem to matter since the defense was all over the Disciples offense. "Ironman" Mike Uribe was in a close competition for the Ironman award, but he put in a performance that all but wrapped up the award. He racked up 4 flag pulls, 2 sacks, and 2 passes defended. It wasn't all bad for the Disciples as they saw their own award leader produce. Devon Acker tacked on two more sacks bringing his sack lead to 13. The Disciples would see their defensive efforts before not as this game's results has all but sealed their pro division fate. They'll be heading back down to the Comp division, but they know what to expect if they can earn their return. The Bulls on the other hand were focused on improving on their seeding. It really comes down to the match up rather than the seeding since they would no matter what have to play in the first round of the playoffs. Of course, CTS and the Bulls would have to wait for the results of the final game to know who their match up would be.

With the results of the prior two games, Menace knew they were not only safe for their pro league invite but they also had secured the sixth seed. I believe that lack of pressure played a huge role as to why Menace balled out in this game. The first half was going their way on offense and defense. Menace rolled to a 20 to 0 lead in the first half and added an insurance score in the second half. Menace relied heavily on Stephen Mamuzich and Kyle Trinidad in the receiving game. Stephen was on the receiving end of three touchdowns while Kyle had one. On defense, Menace would only get one sack, but they did apply a good amount of pressure to force quicker passes. The Rockers finally got on the score board in the second half when Pat Yanda found Nick Mancuso. Speaking of Pat, he set the new record for passing completions in a season at 192. He would also set the new attempts record at 269. Speaking of records, Ricky Peterson just beat out Anthony Rankin's reception record with a new mark of 44 receptions in a season. On defense, Jordan Williams of Menace has set the new passes defended mark at 10. Due to the results of this game, these two teams will not be playing each other again in the first round of the playoffs.

VOTED FOR BY THE LEAGUE PLAYERS, CATAINS, AND STAFF

Artie Barcelo is your MVP this season. Last season, Mile High Built was one of the best teams in the league with Artie leading the way to a deep run in the playoffs. Now, he’s playing for the

Huskers, who were undefeated the majority of the season and own the 2 seed heading into playoffs. All but proving, it doesn’t matter who he’s playing for, his team just wins with him

there. All season long, Huskers have had the best offense in the PF3 and its because of Artie. He took this award with 1,600 passing yards, 710 rushing yards and 29 total touchdowns. Ridiculous offensive production adding up to only the 3rd highest points total for the Atlas

Award, trailing (oddly enough) only himself all-time. The man is a machine, pure force of will, and there’s nothing you can do to stop him.

Alright, stop me if you've heard this one before; “And the winner of the Atlas player award goes to Artie Barcelo.” This is now Artie's sixth Atlas Award, given to the top statistical

Quarterback in the Pro Division. In his first season with the Huskers, Artie lead the league in passing touchdowns with 25 and is tied for the league lead in rushing touchdowns with 4. To go along with his 1600 passing yards he accumulated 710 rushing yards. Season after season, Artie is one of the most electrifying players in the PF3. When he's at QB you can never count

out his team until the final horn sounds. He'll look to keep the momentum of this award going into the playoffs and secure himself the Pro Division title to pair up with the Atlas Award.

Setting the new receptions record at 44 is Mr. Ricky "Playmaker" Peterson. He was in a battle until the final week for the Primetime award. This is his first Primetime award and joins a list

of prestigious company. Along with receptions, Ricky lead the league in yards at 564 yards and was tied for the league lead in touchdown receptions with 7. What makes this award so

impressive was Ricky played both sides of the ball for the entirety of all 7 games. He was one of Pat Yanda's go-to receivers. This Primetime performance has helped the Rockers obtain a 4

and 3 record for the #5 seed in the playoffs. His best game came against the Bulls, who the Rockers play in the first round of the playoffs. He will look to replicate his 9 reception, 100

yards, and three touchdown performance.

PRO DIVISION TOP STATISTICAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER

The Ironman award goes to Mike Uribe for this season with the second highest point total ever. He took the award with 29 flag pulls, 6 sacks, 6 pass defenses, and one interception that

he returned for six. I don't think he even played in week 1 and if he did then he didn't accumulate any stats. From week 2 on, he was making plays all over the field. He did most of

his damage from the middle backer spot but by the end of the season he became the best pass rusher the Bulls had. He will try to bring that same pass rush intensity against the Rockers in the first round of the playoffs. If "Ironman" Mike continues to play linebacker, this could be

the first of many Ironman awards for him.

PRO DIVISION - MOST SACKS REGULAR SEASON

This was not only the Disciples first season in the Pro Division, but this was also Devon Acker's first taste as well. In week 1 he would get the Pro division’s attention with four sacks against

CTS. He wouldn't replicate another four-sack game, but he did rack up two sacks in four other games. Any thoughts that his first game was a fluke should be put to bed by now.

Unfortunately, all those sacks did not turn into wins for the Disciples. Unless he decides to play on another squad next season, he and his squad will be relegated to the Comp division.

If he can continue to wreak havoc for opposing quarterbacks, he might be able to help his team earn their way back to the Pro. His 13 sacks are tied for fourth all time.

Manual High School, Denver CO – 10.20.19

10.27.19

The teams that made the playoffs are exactly who I had predicted would be there at the beginning of the season. Now that we are down to just six teams, it's time work our way down to the last one standing. Looking at the teams, it's kind of wide open. We start off with a bang when the #4 seed Chiefs face off against the #5 seeded Matadors. Both bring tough defenses, but the differences come from the offensive side of the ball. The Chiefs are more of a big play type offense with a very mobile QB in Mondo Ray Delgado. While the Matadors are more of a ball control offense that picks and chooses when to take their shots. Will Stebbins does provide some running ability, but I wouldn't call him a burner. Both teams have big time wide receivers who can make most DB's look silly. This is actually a really good match up of teams that didn't face each other in the regular season. Time to put the talk aside from these two teams and see who will be moving on to the semifinals.

The second game has the strong defense of #3 seed FOE against the strong offense of the #6 seed Lightning. Once again, we have another match up of teams that didn't see each other in the regular season. These two do know each other from past seasons though. It will be interesting to see if the Lightning's progression on defense will beat out the progression of FOE's offense or vice versa. Will the FOE that was putting up 30 points a game show up? The Lightning usually can put up 20 or so but it has seemed like lately they stall out at 28. The key will be the d-line for FOE getting to QB John Everhart in that spread system the Lightning run. The #1 seeded Band of Brothers came over from Hyland Hills and while thought of as a good team, nobody was really sure how they'd be able to stack up against some of the better comp teams. Well, they have answered the challenge so far heading into playoffs. They've shown depth so far on the season but will their speed at WR be affected by the possible snow. When they take the field, their opponent may be frozen from having to play before them. One thing is for sure B.O.B will not face FOE, but they could face any one of three teams in Matadors, Chiefs, or Lightning. The #2 seeded Kryptonite had only one loss all season and that was to the #1 seeded Band of Brothers. That's not too bad of a record considering QB Jovan Mays missed multiple games and there were a few games where many of their normal players were gone. Could those absences hinder the cohesion of this squad? This is a team that has made back to back championship games in league play while also winning the Comp bracket in Best of the Best. So needless to say, this is a very experienced playoff team. I've heard this is the time that d-lineman Lamont Bryant turns the switch on and will be all over the QB. We’ll see if all the happenings on social media come to fruition. One team we know for sure won’t be seeing such a fearsome pass rush from Bryant in the semifinals is the Lightning.

A game many thought would have been closer, turned out to be fairly one sided. On the brink of elimination, the Matadors would do their part in trying to make the playoffs. They would jump out to a quick 20 to 0 lead in the first half. In his return, Will Stebbins was firing darts all over the field. A few of them found Nathan Colegrove in the endzone. The defense for the Matadors would stifle the FOE offense with a heck of a pass rush from Jerome Pierce and Moses Oliveros. The defense for FOE wasn't horrible in this one, just their offense couldn't get anything going to help give them a break. The loss for FOE puts them in the third seed meaning they could potentially be seeing this Matadors team in the first round, but it would depend on how the rest of the day played out. As for the Matadors their playoff fate would be determined from the results of the Lightning and Mob games. If the Matadors can get into the playoffs, they'll be a tough opponent with the number one points against defense. FOE will need to have a short memory to make sure they accomplish their goal.

One team came with a chance to earn the number one seed while the other team was trying to punch their ticket into the playoffs. You wouldn't have guessed that was the case with how close this game ended up being. The defensive line for B.O.B was able to get pressure on Sefo Liufau but only came up with a couple of sacks due to Sefo's athletic ability. Mob came out in a spread and was having success with it. At the beginning it looked like Mob could force a shootout but both defenses eventually tightened it up. The loss for Mob has them just barely on the outside looking in for the playoffs. If they don't make it, they shouldn't feel too bad as the team has made huge strides from their inception last season. Next season we could see them as a legit contender. Band of Brothers has locked up a bye in the first round and are in prime position to grab the 1st overall seed.

Yes, that score is not misprinted, the Bullies beat the Lightning. The Bullies even did so while only starting with seven players going against the Lightning's ten players. Of those ten players, not one of them was QB John Everhart. This win for the Bullies is significant in the fact they have talent but needed to find a way to apply that talent in an 8-man system. Congrats to them on their first win of the season. The Lightning got lucky that Mob had lost earlier. That put them in a tie and since the Lightning have a better point differential, they earned the 6th and final seed for the playoffs. I'm interested to see how their offensive system will work if it does snow for the playoffs. They can expect a tough game against FOE. They haven't faced them in the last two seasons but you can bet they'll bring their A game

This was a quick game with the Chiefs offense only stepping out on the field for extra points with the score being 22 to 0before you could blink. On the Mustangs first drive, there was a punt returned for a TD. Then two pix sixes back to back and to finish it off a safety. For the Mustangs this was not how they wanted the last game of the regular season to end. There was justa quicksand effect like the harder they fought the worse the game got. For the Chiefs this was a nice warm up game before the playoffs. Since they lost to FOE earlier in the season, they will end up getting the fourth seed for the playoffs. With the fourthseed they will face off against the Matadors. I'm sure the Mustangs will get signed up in a winter league or two. They will need that extra seasoning to figure out all the issues they have. If they can keep some cohesion then we could start to see some progression.

This was another game that only had seeding implications for Kryptonite. A win and they'd get a bye but a loss and they’d have to compete in the first round. These were two mismatched teams as Kryptonite didn't play up to their potential but still put it on Sudden Impact. Their pass rush had no issues putting pressure on TJ Manning. TJ was able to get a few good passes off when he wasn't running for his life. Kryptonite will need to correct the misfire on snaps but that could have been attributed to the wind. They’ll need to add some more talent to the team but also getting some more help on the offensive line. Sudden Impact still had the second half remaining to finish out against the Mustangs. With this win, Kryptonite would earn the other first round bye, so they'll get to stay inside their warm cars a little longer than the first-round teams.

Instead of only playing one 20 min. half these two teams played two 15 min. halves. Sudden Impact would make it perfectly clear they are not the worst team in the PF3 by winning via mercy rule in truly just one half. The Mustangs on the other hand have a lot of work to do to just become a .500 level team. This loss sums up a lost season for the Mustangs. Sudden Impact came back nicely to finish the season on a high point by earning their second win of the season.
