COLONIALS VOLLEYBALL CORE VALUES

Safety and Well-being

Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of those involved with our program. That is why it is our number one value. Injuries and illness are part of life; however, it is not acceptable to put someone at risk of harm. This program does not tolerate that.

Good Character

Good character is our second value. Exhibiting good character is not about being perfect. Every day we aspire to attain the standard of good character. The six pillars of character are respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness and good citizenship.

Education

Education, our third value, goes beyond academic GPA’s into all areas of life. The more knowledge you acquire, the better opportunity you have for success.

COLONIALS VOLLEYBALL PRACTICE ETIQUETTE

Practice sessions are for team members only. This includes student-athletes, managers and coaches. Injured players are required to be in the gym with the team unless the trainer notifies otherwise. If you need taped or treated by the trainer, this needs to be done before practice. All gymnasium doors will remain closed during practice sections. The dress code for practice includes team practice jersey (unaltered), spandex or shorts (navy blue or

black preferred) and indoor volleyball shoes and socks.

The coaching staff highly recommends the use of kneepads, ankle braces and other protective equipment permitted by NFHS rules. Cell phones will remain unused during practice unless a coach gives permission. Players should bring water bottles for use when needed outside of scheduled water breaks. No food allowed in the gym. The first group to practice will set the nets up, and the last group will put the nets away. Unless instructed by the coach, athletes will stand when not active in the practice session. Reckless behavior or horseplay have no place in our gym. Except where the rules of play apply, kicking a volleyball in the gym is not acceptable. Roll volleyballs off the back of your side of the court during drills and game play. Avoid rolling volleyballs under the net where someone is jumping. When possible bounce the ball to teammates and coaches rather than throwing it to them.
