COLLINGSWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SERVICE FOR THE LORD’S DAY
February 3, 2013 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time
ASSEMBLE IN GOD’S NAME
Silent Prayer
In you, O God, we find a place of refuge - a strong and secure place of
shelter and safety - giving us confidence to believe that you hear us
and protect us. You are the foundation of our hope, the source of our trust;
a rock to lean on and a safe place to rest in from the time of our birth. Amen.
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
We welcome you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! Please sign the
guest book in the narthex so we can send you a welcome packet.
Gathering of Prayer Concerns and Joys
Please raise your hand to share your joys or concerns to be included in the
prayers of the people this day. You may also write your concern on the pink
sheets and hand to the Pastor. Please mail a prayer card from the narthex to

Call to Worship
Leader: Let all who would serve the Lord enter God's house for
worship!
People: We would serve the Lord our God, but we are weak and
without voice.
Leader: The Lord is our strength and gives us the words to
proclaim to all.
People: Then let us lean upon the Lord and lift our voices to
serve the Christ.
Leader: And let our hearts be not afraid as we proclaim the Word
of the Lord.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
*Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty” PH#138
*Prayer of Confession (unison)
Leader: Almighty God, we have sinned against you in what we
have done and what we have left undone.
People: What have I done Lord? I have said no to you and to
choices that I know would be good for me. I have
turned away from people out of fear and self-
protection.
Leader: Our Brother, Jesus, we ask your forgiveness for rejecting
you when your words are too difficult.
People: What have I done Lord? I say I follow you, and yet I
turn away from your ways. I ignore the call to love
others. Worse yet, I have been so self-concerned that I
haven’t even noticed when I have hurt others by my
rejection or indifference.
Leader: O Holy Spirit that calls us to new life, we ask your
forgiveness for doubting your promise to sustain us.
People: What have I done Lord? I have said yes to you and
others, and now I am afraid. I have agreed to join or
lead and feel so inadequate. I am not old enough,
secure enough or wise enough. What was I thinking?
I can’t do this!
Time of silence
*Words of Assurance
Leader: Jesus said, “Peace be still,” and the furious waters
calmed and the disciples were led to safety.
People: You give us all that we need, O Lord. I believe, help
my unbelief.
Leader: As we surrender our fears and take steps of faith, God is
with us.
People: You give us all that we need, O Lord. I believe, help
my unbelief.
Leader: Friends, believe the words of Jesus, “I am the Life,
whoever believes in me shall never die.”
People: You give us all that we need, O Lord. I believe, help
my unbelief. Amen.
*Congregational Response - “O Lord, Hear My Prayer” STF# 2200
O Lord, hear my prayer. O Lord, hear my prayer.
When I call, answer me.
O Lord, hear my prayer. O Lord, hear my prayer.
Come and listen to me.
*Sharing of the Peace
Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.
PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD
Children’s Sermon
(Children Pre-K through 2nd Grade may leave for Sunday School.
Grades 3-5 remain for communion.)
Anthem: “Cantate Domino” by Natalie Sleeth
Chancel Choir
Epistle Lesson: Jeremiah 1: 4 - 10 (p. 685)
Psalm 71: 1 - 17: (responsively)
Leader: In you, O Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to
shame.
People: In your righteousness, deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me and save me.
Leader: Be to me a rock of refuge, a strong fortress, to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
People: Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
Leader: For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from
my youth.
People: Upon you, I have leaned from my birth; it was you who
took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is
continually of you.
Leader: I have been like a portent to many, but you are my strong
refuge.
People: My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your
glory all day long.
Leader: Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake
me when my strength is spent.
People: For my enemies speak concerning me, and those who
watch for my life consult together.
Leader: They say, “Pursue and seize that person whom God has
forsaken, for there is no one to deliver.”
People: O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste
to help me!
Leader: Let my accusers be put to shame and consumed; let
those who seek to hurt me be covered with scorn and
disgrace.
People: But I will hope continually and will praise you yet
more and more.
Leader: My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds
of salvation all day long, though their number is past
my knowledge.
People: I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord
God. I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.
All: O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still
proclaim your wondrous deeds.
*Hymn: “O, Jesus, I Have Promised” PH#388

RESPONSE TO THE WORD
*Affirmation of Faith The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from
Light, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us and for our
salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the
Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered
death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in
accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and
is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again
in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom
will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who
proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look
for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to
come. Amen.
Offering
We offer these gifts, O God, not because you require them, but
because we want to express our gratitude.
They are not meant to impress, but to accomplish
some good in the world. With them we commit ourselves to
justice, kindness, and a humble walk with our Creator.
Teach us to give without counting the cost.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Help Support our Youth Group Mission Trips! This year, we are pleased that our youth will be going on TWO mission trips.
Senior highs Andy Wilson, Angela Sperlunto, Lindsey Ball, and Natalie Sperlunto
will be going to Purdue Indiana in July for the Presbyterian Church Youth
Triennium. It is an amazing youth conference of over 4,000 Presbyterian youth
and youth adults worshipping, learning, and having fun together!
In July, the middle school kids will be going on their Mission trip to Massanetta
Springs, Virginia for a week of service, learning, and fun!
So, they will need your support! If you are interested in contributing, just put
Youth Mission trips on your memo line of your check. We are also having fund-
raisers for the Annual Meeting, including a hoagie sale, Applebee’s breakfast on
March 9th, and a car wash in June. Each student needs to raise $250.00, so please
help them out!!
