Sir, Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to add a few points as clarification to a repeated news in a TV news channel. It is repeatedly broadcasted and targeted that college teachers in assam draw salary of Rs. 90.000/- per month. The UGC sixth pay commissions motto was to attract qualified, meritous and enthusiastic scholars into teaching job in higher education. To join college or university as teachers it requires hard work, devotion, sincerity like qualifying in NET, obtaining Ph.D, good research publication with high impact factor etc. in addition to master degree. All that requires hard work for 6-7 years after graduation. With all these qualification gathered through devoted hard work one can join a college or university as Asst. Prof. in the scale of Rs 15,600 – 39,000. The total emoluments at joining stands at around Rs. 35,000/-. But still if he or she prefers a company job than the package may be 12 lacs an annum that is Rs, 1 lac per month. After 22 years of service in teaching his salary may touch to Rs. 90,000/- subjected to the fulfillment of the requirements as per rule. Under the circumstances wrong information is injected into the society that all college teachers earn Rs 90.000 per month. Secondly I feel that accusing college teachers of getting away of social responsibility is unjustified. I can bring many examples from past and to the present where college teacher is actively involved with social responsibity. The UGC scale enjoyed by college teachers

Secondly I feel that accusing college teachers of getting away of social responsibility is unjustified. I can bring many examples from past and to the present where college teacher is actively involved with social responsibity. The UGC scale enjoyed by college teachers is only for their services in the under graduate classes and cannot be compelled to teach in higher secondary classes. In spite of repeated notice by UGC to get away from higher secondary section from colleges, college teachers nor ACTA have ever protested of their honorary duty in teaching higher secondary classes. Under the circumstances accusing college teachers with fabricated news gives wrong message to the society and youth will be disheartened to join this responsible job. Yours etc… Bedanta Bora(9859992020)
