What Employers Want
89% of British Firms regard attitudes to work and character as the most important factor when recruiting. They want:
• Good communicators• Students who can solve problems and be analytical
Technical skill and knowledge is considered a low priority - they can train for that.
Lack of Skill• More than half of businesses (57%) said a lack of soft skills,
such as communication and team working, were reasons why young people were not ‘work ready.’
• Association of Graduate Recruiters, found that 43% of employers were unable to fill all of their graduate vacancies last year, because students failed to match academic achievement with leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
• “Students are learning these skills every day. We just need to reframe the purpose of lessons to focus on skill development as opposed to content.” - OFSTED INSPECTOR

Communication and input from Employers
• Students progress through content;
• Relate their classroom learning to skill development;
• Record their skill development;
• Can prove their skills to an employer;
“Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is
found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”
