DOCTOR OF PHARMACY (PHARMD)PharmD education opens a diverse set of career opportunities. As front-line health care providers pharmacists have special expertise in the use of therapeutic drugs. Aside from working in retail pharmacies, PharmD graduates go on to careers in emergency medicine, research, drug development, and many specialized practice areas. They also provide direct patient care on interdisciplinary care teams and in other settings.

At the University of Utah, you will join a vibrant academic community that will prepare you for the highest levels of pharmacy leadership, science and health care practice. We offer the only PharmD program in the Mountain West region with access to a top-ranked academic health system. This distinction will set you apart from your peers.

We also offer four PhD specialty programs as well as a PharmD/PhD pathway. Give us a call or visit pharmacy.utah.edu/student-information to learn more.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIAAll students who have demonstrated motivation and academic achievement are invited to apply. Applicants are evaluated on academics and several activity areas. The following information covers many of the admissions requirements. Visit pharmacy.utah.edu/student-information for details.

PharmCAS Application: Complete and submit the PharmCAS application online at pharmcas.com. As part of the PharmCAS process, you will submit a Statement of Purpose, which should clearly convey the following:• Why you selected pharmacy as a career and how

the PharmD degree relates to your professional goals.

• How your personal, educational, and professional background will contribute to your success as a student and future pharmacist.

Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT): All applicants must take the PCAT before applying for the PharmD program. No minimum score is required.

Letters of Recommendation: Two letters must be submitted through PharmCAS. One letter MUST be from a pharmacist, supervisor, or health care professional. The other letter may be from one of those listed above or a professor. Both letters should reflect a professional, academic, or supervisory relationship with the applicant. Letters from clergy, family, friends, or co-workers are not accepted.

Pharmacy Experience/Patient Exposure: Pharmacy experience is recommended but not required. Approximately half of accepted students have a pharmacy technician license. Pharmacist shadowing or work/volunteer experience in a health care setting with patient exposure are also recommended.

Leadership: Successful PharmD students have demonstrated dedication, care for the welfare of others, and the ability to make decisions.
