I. BRIEF HISTORY OF INSTITUTE
The College of Engineering Vadakara, is a Government controlled Engineering
College established by Govt. of Kerala in the year 1999 managed by Co-operative
Academy of Professional Education (CAPE) under the Ministry of Co-operation. The
College was affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology in the beginning
and now affiliated to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and
approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. The institute offers
undergraduate programs in Engineering & post graduate programme in MCA under
semester pattern.
Land and Location:
The college started functioning initially in the premises of Maniyur Grama Panchayath
High School in 1999 and was later shifted to the permanent campus at the end of 2001. The
permanent campus is located at Kurunthodi in Maniyur village about 13 km away from
Vadakara town along the Palayad –Maniyur road and is situated on the hilltop of‘Kakoramala’,
with lush green and beautiful surroundings stretching over an area of about 27 acres. The
nearest railway station Vadagara is 14 Km away from the Campus.
II. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
AICTE Approval:
The approval of AICTE for the year 2017-18 was accorded to all the six B.Tech
programmes and the MCA programme run by the College of Engineering Vadakara vide
AICTE Order No. South-West/1-3516106437/2018/EOA Dtd. 14-Apr-2018.
University Recognition:
Provisional recognition for College of Engineering Vadakara was accorded by the KTU
as per order No. KTU/A/456/2018 Dtd: 15th May 2018 for the B.Tech course in Civil Engg,
Computer Science & Engg, Electronic & Communication Engg, Electrical and Electronics
Engg, Electronics and Instrumentation Engg., Information Technology and MCA with 60 seats
each. From the academic year 2015-16 all the B Tech courses have been disaffiliated from

CUSAT and affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University vide order No
KTU/A/456/2015 dated 14 May 2015. College of Engineering Vadakara got affiliation /
extension of Affiliation for the academic year 2017-18 for all the existing programmes.
Working Hours:
Class timings are from 09 AM to 4 PM. The students had a five day week as per the
curriculum prescribed by the KTU. Library and computer center are functioning from 8.30 am
to 5.00 pm. The offices were also functioning all days except Sundays from 09 AM to 4 PM.

Transportation facility:
College is having 10 buses for conveyance of our students and staff. Out of these 10
busses, 2 buses were purchased by Parents Teacher Association. These buses are being
running from all important destinations such as Payyoli, Vadakara, Perambra and Koyilandy.
Busses are managed by a bus committee consisting of faculty,staff, PTA and students
representatives headed by the principal.
Internet facilities/Wi-Fi Connection:
The college has 100 Mbps NKN & 12 Mbps BSNL internet facility with campus Wi-
Fi connectivity. All academic1 blocks are Wi-Fi connected.
V. Co-curricular activities:
1. College Council: (Details of Office bearers)
College has a 10 member college council to advice The Principal on important decision with
regard to academic and administrative matters. Principal is the chair and one senior faculty as
the secretary of the council. All HOD’s, Administrative officer, and a staff advisor are the
members of the college council. Council meetings are scheduled at least once in a month
preferably on first Wednesday of every month. All the decisions are recorded on the council
meeting minutes. Various academic and administrative matters are discussed in the meeting
and decisions are made.

4. NSS activities:
Hiroshima day – 6th August 2018, Monday- A meeting has been convened in the
college at 12 noon in the MCA seminar hall in connection with Hiroshima Day.
Nagasaki Day – 9th August 2018, Thursday - A meeting has been convened in the

Flood Related activity : Packing at DTPC Kozhikode: 21-23 August 2018 – 40 NSS
volunteers has been participated in connection with DTPC Kozhikode to manage flood
related activities.
Flood Related activity : NFRA..: 27-28 August 2018: In connection with National
Flood and Relief Activities, 40 numbers of NSS volunteers has been actively
participated in the Flood Relief Activity.
Flood Related activity : SRISHTI : 31 August 2018 – 2 September 2018 : In connection
with Flood related activity.. around 200 students have participated in the activities along
with NSS volunteers for the survey of flood related areas in the near by Panchayaths,
Maniyur, Velom & Changaroth .
Flood Relief Thurayur : 15th & 16th September 2018. 40 NSS volunteers have been
participated in connection with Flood Relief activity in the Thurayur area.
NSS Day : 24 September 2018 : A meeting has been convened for NSS volunteers in
the college at 12 noon in the MCA seminar hall in connection with NSS Day.
Road Survey : 2nd October 2018 : A road survey has been conducted for widening
purpose from Attakund Bridge, Kurunthodi, Bank Road in the Maniyur Panchayath by
the NSS volunteers.
Punarjjani Camp : 12 – 15 October 2018 : Punajjani Camp has been conducted in the
Maniyur Panchayath as a part Flood relief activity in cooperation with Maniyur Grama
Panchayath.
Kerala Piravi Day : 1st November 2018 : Kerala Piravi Day has been celebrated in the
college by convening a meeting of NSS volunteers in the college.
CHUVAD- 7-day special camp : 21 – 27 December 2018: A 7-day Special camp has
been conducted at Paloor/Madancherry Colony in Vilangad Grama Panchayath. 52
NSS volunteers have been participated along with Programme Officer Mr. Pramod
Tharu Panakkal and some faculties from the college. The major activities included are;

Thadayana Construction, Cleaning the school premises, Electrification of houses, Dip
marking in the 4.3 km road to Paloor from Vilangad Town..etc.
Republic Day : 26 January 2019, Saturday : A meeting has been convened for NSS
volunteers in the college in connection with Republic Day.
Mother Tongue Day : 21 February 2019, Thursday : A meeting has been convened for
NSS volunteers in the college in connection with Mother tongue Day and various
competitions are arranged for NSS volunteers in connection with Mother tongue day
celebrations such as quiz, poem writing, story writing, etc..

6. Training & Placement activities:
A Training and Placement Cell (TPC) functioning in the college to provide career
guidance and placement opportunities for students. Training has been given to students for
attending various examinations conducted by recruitment agencies and for campus recruitment.
TPC prepares the students to face competitive examination and interviews through intensive
training programs encompassing aptitude tests, group discussions, mock interviews and basics
of behavioural psychology and body language. It invites reputed companies to the college and
organizes campus placements. The college also had an MOU with ICT Academy of Kerala to
enhance placements.

Various Committees:
1. College Development Council
A College Development Council has been formed under the guidance of CAPE Head
Office. The committee consists of MP, MLA, Panchayath President, Principal and all HoDs.
2. Anti-Ragging Committee
An committee comprising of Principal as its chairman, H.O.D of EEE Dept. as its
convenor, all H.O.D’s, representatives of of technical staffs, Circle Inspector of Police -
Vadakara Police Station, 1 Media representative, PTA vice president,a social worker near the
college, and one student representative as its members have been formed to check and stop
ragging activities in the college premises. Individual charge have been given to all H.O.D’s to
observe different blocks, canteen and all other premises of this college. List of anti-ragging
committee members with their phone numbers has been displayed all over the campus.
3. Grievance & Appeal Committee
A Grievance Redressal Committee exist in the college with Principal as Chairman
along with 6 other faculty/staff from college. The committee is being assembled almost once
in a month and review the complaint received from students and other general difficulties of
students beyond the complaints.

4. ALUMNI Association
The alumni association of CEV has very healthy relationship with the Institution. The
Association gives all support to the Institutional Developmental activities. It is very keen in
promoting and motivating the students every year by rewarding the meritorious students by
giving mementos to them. Also, the financially backward meritorious students are uplifted by
providing financial support to them.
(2018-2019 Activities):
Two students are provided with full fee of Rs. 35000/- each as scholarship due to poor
financial condition at home.
Three students with good academics and poor financial background are awarded with
alumni scholarship of Rs 20000/- each
Two eighth semester students with good academics and poor financial background are
awarded with Rs.10000/- each, as financial support for doing their project work.
5. Staff club
Staff Club of CEV is an informal organization consisting of all staff irrespective of
regular , contract, teaching/ non teaching faculty members. The Club is actively functioning in
this college. President, secretary and other office bearers are selected by the executive
committee. Executive members are elected by members.

VIII. CONCLUSION
The College of Engineering Vatakara, one of the leading institutions under CAPE is now a
leading Technical Education in Malabar Area, considering the infrastructure, courses and the
standard.
Based on the Academic programmes and the co-curricular activities, this college have
achieved a good reputation among the other Engineering colleges in Malabar area as a whole.
The ISO Certification, NAAC Accreditation etc. are definitely a blessings to our college to
have a high reputation among other such institutions.
The spacious Library, Reading Room as well as the digital library are very helpful to the
students to quench their thirst of knowledge. Well-equipped Laboratories, Hostel facilities,
Canteen and Cafeteria etc. are very helpful to our students.
Very active Alumni, efficient Anti Ragging committee, contributions done by the NSS
volunteers, the members of the Natural Club, helping hand of PTA, energetic Staff Club,
vibrant Student's council, timely involvement of the counselling cell etc. definitely helped very
much to get many achievements.
