Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture &Technology, College of Community and Applied
Sciences, Udaipur in collaboration with National Institute of Agriculture Extension
(MANAGE), Hyderabad is organizing 5 days online training programme on “Gender
Mainstreaming in Agriculture and Allied Sectors” from 22nd to 26th February, 2021. The
training programme was inaugurated on 22 February, 2021 with digital lamp
lightingfollowed by ICAR and MPUAT video kulgeet. Online training programme was address
by The Hon’ble vice chancellor prof. Narendra Singh Rathore, MPUAT, Udaipur. He
highlighted about the gender issue in agriculture and allied sectors, Technological
empowerment of women in agriculture for bringing equity with these 4C principles:
Convergence of appropriate technologies, Collaboration, and cooperation, Collective action
and capacity development), Transition of farm women to women farmers by development
of entrepreneurship, ways for self-confidence, knowledge updatation, innovation, learning
aptitudes and leadership development.
In her welcome address Dr Meenu Srivastava, Dean, College of Community and Applied
Sciences emphasized the need of sensitizing the stakeholder of Government/ Non-
Government Organizations about implementation of gender mainstreaming in agriculture to
benefit farm women and issue related with it.
Dr Veenita Kumari, Director (General Studies), MANAGE briefed about the MANAGE
activities and online courses offered through MOOCS.
The guest of honor Dr P. Chandra Shekara, Director General, MANAGE, Hyderabad,
highlighted the working of ATMA and KVK for the promotion of 10000 farmer’s producers
through activities of demonstration, trainings and self-help groups. He focused to inculcate
planning of markets, aspects of marketing, processing, emphasized on digital literacy and
how to use technologies regular connectivity with related departments like technology,
market and recent government programmes.
Guest of Honor Dr P S Pandey, ADG Education, ICAR, New Delhi, highlighted role of gender,
low awareness of people needs to sensitize the men and women, gender identity is very
important and stereotype is a big limitation for the growth.
During the inauguration session guest of honor Dr Vishwanath Sadamate, Former Advisor
Agriculture- Planning Commission, New Delhi, highlighted that farm women is a part of
practically all the farm operations not only in production but in post-harvest and even
marketing of perishable, etc.
Just after the completion of inaugural session, technical session was convened by two
eminent key speakers Dr Vishwanath Sadamate addressed on “Empowering Women
through FPOs” and Dr P S Pandey, on “Gender concept and Stereotypes”. Dr Vishwanath
Sadamate, brief about the account of growth of extension service over a period of time. He
highlighted about the extension service providers, emerging pluralism- models like public
sector, private sectors, farmer driven, NGO driven and media driven including social media
now. Hence, he pointed out the need for empowerment through intervene, through
trainings, enhanced accesses, entrepreneurship etc. Dr P S Pandey focuses on the
importance of family to educate people in gender issue and role of gender. Awareness of
people is very low hence; there is strong need to sensitize about the topic gender
mainstreaming in agriculture and allied sectors.
Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Sudha babel, Course Co-ordinator, Professor and Head,
TAD, CCAS, Udaipur. The training was conducted by Dr Vishakha Bansal, Course Co-
ordinator, Prof. EECM, CCAS, MPUAT, Udaipur.
The training programme was attended by 128 dignitaries and participants including
agricultural scientists, faculties, young professionals and students of different institutions.
The training programme was assisted by Course Co-coordinators Dr Kusum Sharma, Mrs
vandana Joshi, Ms latika Sanchiher and Mr Piyush Choudhary.
