Every girl confidently played her role as a colourful sea creature in capturing the spirit of the sea. The beauful costumes, catchy songs, and delighul dances created a myscal ambiance for all to enjoy. The rock and roll starfish and serene ballerina octopuses were charming. Our girls were given an opportunity to culvate their imaginaon and explored new ways of doing things, smulang growth and a deeper knowledge of the creatures of the sea. We so enjoyed having pre-schoolers, parents and grandparents at our performances. The art exhibion in the Junior Primary Hall reflected hard work and thorough planning. Our capable, curious and creave girls produced incredible works of art, clever invenons, and new creaons, which were evident in the 3D models and pictures on display in the Junior Primary. The High School Matric Art Exhibion was held this week. The theme, “Liminality” – the spaces between, was widely interpreted with mul-media and powerful modes and plaorms of expression. Mr Gary McIver, our art teacher, was impressed with the variety of art and the maturity and depth the girls reached when exploring this topic. Liminality was portrayed as both a process and a journey; healing and catharc in many ways. Mr McIver creates a safe place for our girls to explore their talent and he respects their individual arsc styles. So when the creave spirits of individuals sr, something beauful happens to the team. Thank you to all our teachers for finding the treasure in all our girls and for sharing this treasure with us. “When the creative spirit stirs, it animates a style of being: a lifetime filled with the desire to innovate, to explore new ways of doing things, to bring dreams of reality.” - D. Goleman, P. Kaufman.

The Grade 00 and R school production, Treasures of the Ocean, was both enchanting and entertaining. Every girl confidently played her role as a colourful sea creature in capturing the spirit of the sea. The beautiful costumes, catchy songs, and delightful dances created a mystical ambiance for all to enjoy. The rock and roll starfish and serene ballerina octopuses were charming.

Our girls were given an opportunity to cultivate their imagination and explored new ways of doing things, stimulating growth and a deeper knowledge of the creatures of the sea. We so enjoyed having pre-schoolers, parents and grandparents at our performances.

The art exhibition in the Junior Primary Hall reflected hard work and thorough planning. Our capable, curious and creative girls produced incredible works of art, clever inventions, and new creations, which were evident in the 3D models and pictures on display in the Junior Primary.

The High School Matric Art Exhibition was held this week. The theme, “Liminality” – the spaces between, was widely interpreted with multi-media and powerful modes and platforms of expression. Mr Gary McIver, our art teacher, was impressed with the variety of art and the maturity and depth the girls reached when exploring this topic. Liminality was portrayed as both a process and a journey; healing and cathartic in many ways. Mr McIver creates a safe place for our girls to explore their talent and he respects their individual artistic styles.

So when the creative spirits of individuals stir, something beautiful happens to the team. Thank you to all our teachers for finding the treasure in all our girls and for sharing this treasure with us.

From our ChaplainShout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Psalm 100:3

“There is not one blade of grass, there is no colour in the world that is not intended to make us rejoice.” John CalvinThe theme for Grade 1 - 6 RE in Terms 3 and 4 is ‘Our Colourful World… Our Caring God’. Each lesson focuses on a different colour and we chat about how dull the world would be if that particular colour didn’t exist. Then we hear a bible story which includes that colour in some way. So far we’ve learnt about Rahab, and how she believed God’s promises. We’ve learnt that King Solomon was wise and wealthy and, though he loved God, he got distracted by his great wealth. We’ve learnt that Esther became a queen and then made courageous decisions because she too trusted that God’s words were true. We have more colourful characters to learn about this term! They’ll also teach us about God’s character of compassion, justice and mercy, and we’ll take the time to ap-preciate our colourful world. I hope we can all set time aside this term to intentionally notice the things around us that bring us contentment, joy or inspiration.

    Meet our Staff

    Meet our Alumna

I have always loved children so going into a career in teaching just seemed like the obvious choice.I qualified from the University of Durban-Westville with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Move-ment Science. I then went on to do my postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education through UNISA.I have been teaching in the Junior Primary at Durban Girls’ College for the last 9 years. I love teaching the little ones and I honestly don't know who has more fun in our school day, the girls or myself.

I try to live a healthy lifestyle and participate actively in a multitude of sports. I have run theComrades Marathon, participated in 18 Duzi Canoe Marathons, completed the full Iron Man, ridden the Amashova, swum the Midmar Mile and represented my country in marathon canoeingto name just few.

I am a mother to two beautiful children who keep me very busy. My son is in Grade 9 at Maritzburg College and my daughter is in Grade 4 here at Durban Girl’s College.

Lynne was awarded the Galleon Benefactors’ Award at the Founders’ DayPrize-Giving on 16 October 2019. The award serves to honour those members ofthe College family who have served above and beyond the call of duty.

Lynne was Deputy Head Girl and after matriculating in 1969, she acquired a numberof different qualifications including a BComm and BProc degrees.

Lynne has been involved in all facets of College life since, at least, 1977 – a periodof over 40 years. Her involvement is not only on a professional level, but as aparent and grandparent as Lynne’s daughter also attended Durban Girls’ College and her granddaughter, Elle, is currently in Grade R.

She is currently updating the school archives and assisting the school in interviewingfor Head of Archives which is one of the leadership portfolios, and monitors the Archives Committee.

Lynne’s great dedication and loyalty to DGC is unquestionable and it is fitting that her name be engraved on the Galleon Award Board.
