GOLD COASTChicago’s Near North neighborhood is the very model of sophisticated urban living. Bounded on three sides by Lake Michigan and both branches of the Chicago River, the area offers a wide contrast in lifestyles ranging from the glamorous hustle and bustle of world-famous North Michigan Avenue to the artistic environs of River North. The Near North area is also blessed with the string of beaches and parks along the lake shore, as well as access to the southern end of Lincoln Park.

Streeterville | Old Town

6

Page 7: Collections | Volume 1, Issue 5

Chicago’s Gold Coast is one of the city’s most exclusive neighbor-hoods, encompassing the Magnificent Mile of North Michigan Avenue, including such high-profile shopping destinations such as Water Tower Place and 900 North Michigan Avenue. The trendy boutiques of Oak Street are also here, along with Chicago’s famed Oak Street Beach. With the exception of the aristocratic single-family residences in the Astor Street area, most residents live in high-rise condos and co-ops. The artistic River North neighborhood rivals New York City’s SoHo in the number of high-end art galleries, and offers a multitude of new high-rise condo and townhouse developments. River North is also the location of many of the city’s finest restaurants, and an exciting after-hours club and entertainment scene. River West, just across the Chicago River, is a newer neighborhood brimming with excitement and potential. The community abounds with new condo and townhouse developments, as well as with commercial properties converted to residential use.

Streeterville, located east of Michigan Avenue and north of the Chicago River, was actually (for a short time) an independent territory claimed by the area’s colorful founder, “Cap” Streeter. Today Streeterville is home to some of Chicago’s most valuable real estate, including Michigan Avenue and one of Chicago’s most popular tourist attrac-tions, Navy Pier. Housing in Streeterville includes vintage and newly constructed high-rises and mid-rise condominiums. The neighbor-hood is also home to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Northwestern University Medical Center and the university’s downtown campus, as well as the Northwestern University Law School and the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business.

Old Town is a quaint community of quiet residential streets and vibrant commercial and entertainment areas. Real estate in Old Town is varied and distinctive, including vintage single-family homes, rowhouses, townhouse developments and high-rise buildings. The area is a shop-ping, dining and entertainment center, with many of the city’s best restaurants, shops, theaters and clubs, including the highly respected Steppenwolf Theater and the Second City Comedy Club. Each June, the community hosts the Old Town Art Fair, one of the city’s oldest and largest gatherings of artists and artisans, and the country’s oldest juried art fair. ◆

Often considered the heart of Chicago’s north side, Lincoln Park is one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods from both residential and commercial real estate standpoints. Lincoln Park itself is the neighborhood’s most defining landmark. A vast 1,200 acre park bordering on Lake Michigan, Lincoln Park is a haven not only for neighborhood residents, but for all Chicagoans. A wonderland of green lawns, sunny beaches, athletic fields, walking and running paths, tennis courts, a golf course and boat docks, the park is also home to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, the newly

renovated Chicago History Museum and, of course, the world-famous Lincoln Park Zoo. Stretching west from the park are superb residential and commercial areas,

offering a wealth of housing choices ranging from Victorian greystones, coach houses, brick and frame single-family residences, beautiful vintage rowhouses

Clients who have worked with Stella know that her degree and knowledge of real estate, interior design, construction, and architecture have set her apart from all other agents they have worked with. WINNETKATucked away north of Chicago, resting along the shores of Lake Michigan, lies Winnetka, a prosperous village offering superior schools, excellent recreation and luxurious estate homes. This exclusive community is characterized by its prominent estates nestled within its beautiful tree-lined streets, and carefully maintained natural areas. Aptly named after the Native American word meaning “beautiful land,” the Village of Winnetka, IL is encompassed by breathtaking vistas and scenery that serves as backdrops to the esteemed Winnetka homes.

Having preserved much of its residential charm, Winnetka has remained untouched by major shopping malls or big box retail stores. The city’s peaceful streets are adorned by an eclectic blend of small local businesses contributing to the community as well as the culture. With a vivacious enthusiasm for their community, Winnetkans are highly active in their local organizations and are more than dedicated to upholding the prestige of their home town.

Widely known as one of the nation’s wealthiest, most exclusive suburbs, Winnetka is home to an amal-gamation of stately, picturesque estates. With many of the homes in Winnetka having been designed by leading architectural names, like George Washington Maher and John S. Van Bergen, the intricate details displayed in many of these homes continue to exude their elegance and grandeur today, giving the commu-nity the appeal it is well known for. In fact, the charm and beauty of this suburban community has caught the eyes of notable filmmakers over the years, which have made it the destination for blockbuster films such as Home Alone and Risky Business.

Families with children have the opportunity to discover the successful education program of Winnetka School District 36, which is comprised of five schools, including Crow Island, an architecturally signif-icant National Historic Landmark. As a part of the New Trier Township, high school aged students will attend the high performing New Trier High School. Well recognized for its exceptionally high spend per student, New Trier High School provides top tier education for its pupils.

With the vast majority of Winnetka, IL real estate consisting of single-family homes, the area is widely known for estates with classy architectural designs and monumental stature. Winnetka properties are among the most desired real estate in the state, with homes holding riparian rights being the most coveted of them all.

As a lake-front community boasting 23 acres of parkland directly on Lake Michigan, residents are provided with ample opportunity to enjoy a recreational paradise near the water. A dedicated dog beach also welcomes families with pets. Whether residents are swimming, boating or enjoying themselves at one of the expansive parks, the Winnetka Park District and its operations round out the benefits of living in this thriving Village of Winnetka, IL. ◆

JAMESON SOTHEBY’S INTERNATIONAL REALTY EXPANDS TO BARRINGTONBarrington is a suburban village in Cook and Lake counties, Illinois, United States. Located approximately Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty today announced that it has reached an agreement with Hunter’s Fairway Sotheby’s International Realty to acquire its two Barrington, IL offi ces. Founded in 2007, Hunter’s Fairway Sotheby’s International Realty has an established presence in the luxury real estate market in Barrington, IL and surrounding areas. With similar goals in meeting the Chicagoland area’s luxury real estate needs, this joining of two Sotheby’s International Realty affi liates has been a natural next step forward.

“I have strong ties to the Barrington community that reach back to when I went to high school there,” said Chris Feurer, CEO of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty. “No one company is dominating the luxury market currently, and the acquisition of Barrington puts us one step closer to our goal of dominating the luxury market.”

The new Barrington offi ces are located at 101 South Wynstone Park Drive, North Barrington, IL 60010 and 100 East Station Street, Suite 135, Barrington, IL 60010. The combined capabilities will immediately expand both the near - and long-term growth oppor-tunities and the development pipeline in the coming years. The global reach of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty allows this expansion to be a smooth transition for clients, brokers, and agents alike.

“Together we have shared a common vision under the Sotheby’s International Realty umbrella,” said Connie Antoniou, the owner of Hunter’s Fairway Sotheby’s International Realty. “Merging our brokerages will allow us to provide the support and services of a large brokerage, while maintaining a local boutique feel our clients have grown to love. I look forward to continuing the Sotheby’s International Realty momentum as a leader in luxury real estate.”

Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty has been trusted by clients throughout Chicagoland for over 30 years to expertly locate, manage and negotiate luxury real estate transactions for single family homes, condominiums and more. Notable developments include No. 9 Walton and MID Chicago Development. The Barrington offi ces will join the established Lincoln Park, Evanston, and Winnetka offi ces. Plans are underway to open an offi ce in the refi ned Gold Coast neighborhood in late 2015.

This Barrington expansion comes right after the 7th anniversary of Feurer’s and President Mike Sato joining the company on August 1st, 2008.

“As we work toward growing our business, the opportunity to expand within the Sotheby’s International Realty network, makes Hunter’s Fairway Sotheby’s International Realty a most welcome addition to our company,” says Sato. “Clients will benefi t from our streamlined structure as we continue to provide unrivaled service and access to luxury real estate investment opportunities.” ◆
